The Steve McGarrett Story – No #54

We continue our story from here

Steve 13

Mary arrives at the airport with her new job – an older man named Morty. She is his companion. After getting over the shock of meeting Morty, Steve tells her about Doris being alive, but she refuses to see her.

Mary goes to John’s grave…..

Mary: I still remember that day, that you told me that mommy was never gonna be coming back.  I remember that night I went into your room and I saw you sitting on your bed crying. And that scared me Dad. I miss you so much, Dad. I slept on Steve’s floor because I didn’t want to be alone, you know. And I guess I’ve been that way ever since

But when Steve just told me that she was alive, all I could do was think about you that night crying, Dad. And I am just so angry for what she’s put you through . And I miss you so much. I miss you. I miss you so much. It hurts so bad. I love you.

Mary 1

Mary takes Morty to the beach……

Morty: Mary, I need you to do something for me.

Mary: What. I’ll do anything.

Morty: I need to go see your mother.

Mary: I can’t

Morty: You can’t or you won’t?

Mary: Both. Morty, she disappeared from my life when I was 10 years old. Gone. This whole time I thought she was dead.

Morty: But she’s not. You get a second chance, kid. Other people aren’t so lucky. I’d give everything I own to have a second chance.

Morty & Mary

Morty’s only daughter ran away with a boy he did not approve off. They did not speak for years, until he got a call about her being killed in a car accident.

Morty: Not a day goes by I don’t wish  I’d picked up the phone and called her. I let the privilege of knowing her slip away because I was a stubborn SOB. Don’t make the same mistake. Put away your anger. Go see your mother. You only have one family.

In my opinion, the part with Mary was very well done! I usually am not the crying typ but Mary got me with her speech at the grave, that was such a powerful part, and she did great. It once again shows how different Mary and Steve are, in a way!! (I wasn’t overwhelmed the hugs in the end, I was focused on Steve’s smile!!!IHH/NID)
And wow, I would have loved to sleep on Steve’s floor 😉

I enjoyed this story. I actually really like Mary…I love how she is the family screw-up with this annoyingly perfect big bro. I wish she’d be on more often. Sigh.

Love your opening pic, the expressive head shots of McG, that begin each of your installments, btw.

    • I am not Mary’s biggest fan, but with this episode she stole a piece of my heart.
Going though these episode makes me realise why I liked Season 3 so much. Alex is mesmerising and the stories got to me, without being as (maybe sometimes overly) dramatic as the Season 4 episodes.
As you can see I loved S3

Alex’s faces are just so gorgeous, it is a miracle I get anything done on these posts at all! 😛

  5. Mary was sweet with Morty and I’m glad she listened to his wise words. It helped heal her in a way. Steve’s Smile was great at the end, awww his family together

  6. I really enjoyed that this time they didn’t write Mary in a ridiculous way, as usual. We know that she is the antithesis of her brother, the troubled and unbalanced girl. I loved the scene in the cemetery. Steve/Alex’s face expressions in this episode are awesome too.
