We continue our story from here
Mary arrives at the airport with her new job – an older man named Morty. She is his companion. After getting over the shock of meeting Morty, Steve tells her about Doris being alive, but she refuses to see her.
Mary goes to John’s grave…..
Mary: I still remember that day, that you told me that mommy was never gonna be coming back. I remember that night I went into your room and I saw you sitting on your bed crying. And that scared me Dad. I miss you so much, Dad. I slept on Steve’s floor because I didn’t want to be alone, you know. And I guess I’ve been that way ever since
But when Steve just told me that she was alive, all I could do was think about you that night crying, Dad. And I am just so angry for what she’s put you through . And I miss you so much. I miss you. I miss you so much. It hurts so bad. I love you.
Mary takes Morty to the beach……
Morty: Mary, I need you to do something for me.
Mary: What. I’ll do anything.
Morty: I need to go see your mother.
Mary: I can’t
Morty: You can’t or you won’t?
Mary: Both. Morty, she disappeared from my life when I was 10 years old. Gone. This whole time I thought she was dead.
Morty: But she’s not. You get a second chance, kid. Other people aren’t so lucky. I’d give everything I own to have a second chance.
Morty’s only daughter ran away with a boy he did not approve off. They did not speak for years, until he got a call about her being killed in a car accident.
Morty: Not a day goes by I don’t wish I’d picked up the phone and called her. I let the privilege of knowing her slip away because I was a stubborn SOB. Don’t make the same mistake. Put away your anger. Go see your mother. You only have one family.
