This is Part 7 of our ‘biography‘ of the actor Alex O’Loughlin – It is a chronological account of his life (mostly his career), gathered from the information of events he attended, interviews, articles, and candid pictures.
Where no specific dates are known, we just give the approximate year or month.
We hope that this will add up to be a comprehensive reference guide for his many fans. We intend to update this page when old information is better explained and as the story of his life unfolds …..
From Alex:
But I think this period of time – because I have been working so long, really without breaks – This time has been kind of like a healing time for me.
Like, it’s been great to just do nothing and just focus on the kids and Malia and myself, as well.
And just kind of get quiet – If that makes sense. Read a lot of books. I have been reading a lot of books and reading other people’s scripts. And just sort of trying to see where …. Because I don’t know what’s next …. I don’t know … I don’t just want to jump on something next.
When you do a show like this, for this long, you can become … You’ve got to be careful what you do next. And I don’t know if I’m going to do anything next. I don’t know. I’m a little kind of in no man’s land.
You caught me in a transitional period of my life.

We will keep this page updated as far as possible with new events happening in Alex’s life.
PS: If you are looking for part 5 and 6, they have not been posted yet. We have decided finish this latest part first and to keep it updated, because of all the inquiries about what Alex has been doing lately, since the end of Hawaii Five-0.
If Alex is still at those crossroads about what to do or whether to do anything at all that is his choice. If he’s enjoying “just being” esp with his family again his choice. In my heart of hearts I’m hoping he will one day return to his craft and get back at what he does so well. Seeing his pics as great as they are is only a reminder of how much he is truly missed.
Whenever I get the opportunity I binge watch H50’s full 10 seasons which is being shown on ION all day Friday and half day on Saturday. It helps to fill the void.
Thanks FOYeur for keeping us abreast and sending us treats!🥰

O’Loughlin: You are a much better actor than we all agree you are. You have taken actorship to the next level, and you know your ability to act as an irresistible snake charmer is boundless. You use your velvety voice to lull your fans. You flutter your long lashes to opiate their worries and concerns about you. You work ceaselessly on your shoulder/hip ratio ® to keep them panting with naughty thoughts. You insinuate yourself into their souls with beautiful words about integrity, love, gratitude, respect, kindheartedness, but they are only the song of a siren. Yes, your tactics to keep your fanbase intact are irreproachable.
O’Loughlin, your once-contented, happy fans are gone. Forgotten are the days when we lived in blissful serenity because you got under the skin of one character after another seamlessly, and we had our weekly dose of you on the screen, with just short interruptions you used to appear in TV entertainment shows to explain yours projects. Now we rightfully demand news from you. We demand your work. You owe us. What the hell do you mean with your being in a no man’s land, in a transitional period of your life? We tolerated these words in November last year. Now, seven months later, we cannot put up with this comfortable attitude of yours anymore.
Put your heart in transitioning quickly, O’Loughlin. Start TTM (Turbo Transition Mode) immediately. This is a serious situation. Repeat, serious situation. Either you start doing something immediately, or…
Or we fans will keep loving you, supporting you, being delighted even with an old pic of you we had not seen. Oh yes, Alex, you don’t need to worry. We’ll be here waiting for you when you are ready. BUT PLEASE START THE INFERNAL TTM!

You are important Cassiopea 1000 even though I couldn´t co-sign your comment. Being here commenting on all those articles and stuff like many of us do makes you important, doesn´t it? Well, maybe there are people who say: Why are they wasting their time with fangirling when there are much more important things to do in RL? There is anything more important than fangirling? REALLY? WOW! There are more important things to do than adoring a man who is very suitable as a role model just because he is who he is and allows people to see that? There are more important things than taking part in fundraisers to support a good cause. There are more important things than commenting and reading other people´s comments and maybe learn a thing or two, maybe be able to give people support or ask for support yourself and also having fun along the way? There are more important things than staying loyal to a good man and very talented actor and by doing so maybe being able to show how much loved and missed that actor is. You ARE important Cassiopea 1000 even though you are wasting your precious time here on this board. 🙂

Yes, we are people from all over the planet, putting a smile on one another’s face.
Discussing our favorite pass time.
Nothing more important than that 😀 Making somebody on the other side of the world, who you would have never otherwise known about, enjoy something, is a rare gift. 🙂

Some of us even met people from all over the world and made friends. Just because of one man. If that’s not important and makes the world a better place I don’t know.
Reminds me of when we several years ago, after 5.07 Ina Paha aired, the H50 BAMF community has been so impressed with him and wanted to let him know what being a fan of his means to us and others. So for Thanksgiving a lot of us sent him a letter expressing our attitude, our appreciation of his acting skills and most important how being a fangirl made people from all over the world connect not only virtual but in real life too. Hope he read it and it made him a little bit proud. (Note: the letters weren’t meant to get an autograph. I didn’t even add a return address.)

Let me scratch one ‘we’ and add gratitude instead of attitude. Sigh… I should read carefully before posting.

More important things to do in RL? Oh, I suppose you are thinking of the people who refer to things like watching 22 soccer players running after a ball, and getting berserk when their team wins the Champions League? Or finding extreme pleasure in stroking their cat’s belly? Or driving for hours just to find the best snow for skiing? Or letting themselves be carried away by a Tchaikovsky’s symphony? Oh, yes, that’s certainly important in RL.
Well, you know what? I don’t care if people say I’m a shallow and frivolous person because I spend time (and I use deliberately the word ‘spend’ as opposed to ‘waste’) on this site, following Alex and supporting him. I’m not ashamed to love and admire a very fine man and excellent actor. I don’t feel one bit guilty for finding pleasure in reading and commenting what FOYeur and Paula share with all of us.
So what is and what is not important is quite relative.
All of you are special fellows who make me smile, and laugh, and think, I learn from you, I enjoy your bons mots, you make me forget my day-to-day worries, and at a time when I had a really bad backache, you even were my best painkiller! And that, to me, is important!

It is great that you love the show and the characters.
But as Alex’s fans, we support his choice to leave the show and with it caused the show to end. Therefore we do not wish for it to come back.
10 years was enough. Time for Alex to move on to something new – whatever that may be….

I agree FOYeur. We support Alex in his choice to leave the and move on. I absolutelly do that but for me and maybe other people H5O is not finished yet because of the way that show ended. The way that show ended was like having a character you came to love over the last 10 years left in limbo without a closure. Yes, McGarrett has come full circle. I agree with what Alex said. But for me there should have been a closure so you can see that character is either done (what would be terrible and unfair espo. regarding the situations he had to go through) or able to move on to a life beyong the task force. The way, the show was ended was not satisfying for me and makes it difficult for me to let go. And maybe I´m not the only one who feels that way. As I wrote: I wholeheartedly support Alex´ decision and I´m looking foreward to any new role he is doing because I really like him. But it would have been easier if there was a closure. So maybe there should be one more episode to give people a chance to properly say “goodbye” to the show with the feeling that the character we loved for such a long time have really come full circle. That would maybe stop all those “bring the show back” wishes. Of course that would require trhat the actor had to go back into their old roles and I don´t know, if that would be good for them. Just my two cents….. .

Peter knew from early on in S10 that Alex was leaving, he could have written a better ending – but he didn’t. I doubt if there would have ever been a good ending to it in any case. And also a good ending for one person is not a good ending for the next. Millions of people and millions of proper ending ideas.
It will be a never-ending debate. Going around and round.
That is why I say. It is done, accept it and move on…..
(I mean that in general to everybody – not to you specifically ) 🙂

I could reply to what you wrote about P.L. but won´t. Yes, as I wrote, I accept it and move on. I didn´t know, this topic is a no go on this board so sorry for posting. …. And no need to reply to this post. I´m done with that topic.

Hi. Does anyone know if Alex will return to do some acting in th near future? I mean like his other former cast members who already have other acting gigs. Just wonder if Alex will ever return again, acuse his talent is being missed and he aint getting younger for the entertainment business, you know how entertainment business works.

Hi Maria
Can I ask you to please think about it logically?
If we or any of our readers here knew anything, don’t you think we would have reported on here IMMEDIATELY? We make posts about every small detail of his life and any new news that we get. Why would we then keep from reporting on any new projects?
New projects don’t happen overnight and even more so during this time of a global pandemic with Covid.
Good actors still do well during their late 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and there are even some in their 90’s still getting roles …..
Of course, we also miss his talent and seeing him acting. That is what this whole site is about. But we also wish for him to have the time with his family that he wished for when he ended his time on H50. 🙂

Sorry to had asked that. I asked because other actors of the show had new jobs already ialso in this global pandemic Scoot Caan is in works to produce and star in othershow.Katrina Law already is in NCIS but possibly those cases are just them in particular. When I meant he is not getting any younger is that in the entertainment business in particular, of course there are actors in their 50 or 60 that are very good but we all the business sometimes likes to hire fresh new young faces for shows. But as an actor ages it is gets trickier to find good roles suitable. Im not saying this to question Alex age itis just a general comment that the entertainment business can be brutal when it comes to look for celebs of a certain standards for some acting roles age race men or women in general. So is why i said i hope we can see Alex in a near future back into acting in different roles. But i meant no harm with my commenti it was my personal opinion and the way I personalyy see it.

Katrina Law is great on NCIS. The world was shocked when Mark Harmon left NCIS after 18 years, but the show is good without him and I’m continuing to watch it. Mark just turned 70. He’s earned his retirement!
It’s wonderful that other cast members have landed great jobs post HAWAII FIVE-O. Hopefully Alex is enjoying family time and is working on great new projects. I’d bet that CBS has offered him another series and really wants to work with him on other projects.
I’d love to see him in a theatrical film but NOT a comic book character! I want to see Alex in a film with a compelling storyline. No CGI, no animation, no comic book heroes. Real people in real stories, please. Thank you.

They would be crazy if they hadn´t offered to work with him again. They know him and someone like him who is intelligent and highly talented in many fields and invested and still looking good (although this is not that important regarding a good role) would be a huge benefit to any production when he is ready to go back to work.
NCIS – I loved the original series but imo the show became worse over time. Too many changes and the storylines are by far not as good as they used to be anymore. So now, I don´t watch the show anymore. I don´t know how this new NCIS Hawaii show is doing. Watching the bits and pieces we can watch online, to me it seems that cast is not that good and the cinematography neither although the darn ratings seem to be pretty high. I guess, we are spoiled by H5O.

NCIS Hawaii uses the same cinematographer as H50.
And maybe they get good ratings because there is better writing on the show? I do not know. Have not watched any of it.

Maybe the other cast members do not have the same choices as Alex. Economics can play a big role in having to start a job sooner and not being able to afford the time to wait for something better.
I sincerely hope that somebody OTHER than CBS will offer Alex something. He has spent far too much of his career with them and there might be more creative options out there to introduce him to a wider audience. Many of their shows are just procedurals – and that is something I do not wish on Alex again.
Unless of course, they do have something that satisfies his creativity on a higher level – you never know.
…. Something as you describe it ” I want to see Alex in a film with a compelling storyline.”
