i’m in so much disbelief right now, this doesn’t feel real. I love you so much dad and i wish i could give you one last hug. I wish i could tell you again how much i love you and thank you for being the best dad. I wish you were still here with us, you weren’t supposed to leave yet. This is too soon. I know you are in a good place now with nana vi, and your friends. I wish this never happened and we could just wake up and go surf together tomorrow morning.
I’m not sure how to put this in words, but my dad got into a bad surfing accident and didn’t make it. Im happy he was doing what he loved the most. Life will never be the same without you. I miss you so much, i would do anything to get one more moment, even if it was us arguing and then laughing our asses off. Thank you for teaching me so many life lessons, and always being there for me. I wish you were still here with us right now. I will always be think about you dad ❤️ i love you so much, thank you for everything ❤️ fly high 🕊️ ur a fucking legend

I am just curious. How did you find this out? I looked it up online and couldn’t find the story.

    • If you click on the links in our post above, you will see that the news was shared by the late Mikala’s daughter, Isabella on her public Instagram. And also by Malia’s youngest brother Daniel, on his public Instagram. (as seen in our post above)
It is no mystery were we got the news from, we follow their pages – and they publicly shared it with everybody.

Mikala is a very well known celebrity in the surfing community. You just need to search his name and get the full story.
I will therefor not even respond to your next comment…..

    An update:
I had to really hunt for this story online…
I put in Alex’s name. Nothing!
    Put in Malia’s name. Nothing!
I eventually put in Mikala’s name and found a couple of stories about his death.
I’m still can’t fathom how you found this out when it really wasn’t public knowledge.
They are really a private family and I don’t think they are too thrilled about this information coming out.
And yes I stand by my initial post sharing my condolences…
However maybe this bit of information should not have been shared since it is so personal.

    • If you put in Mikala´s name on Google there are several articles about the accident. A large part of the surfer´s world is mourning. Also some of his family members and friends shared their shock on social media. Since we care for Alex and his family I think, we should show we do in this difficult time.

    • Nobody is bothering the grieving family. We’re all just caring about their circumstances, without them knowing. It’s what we do as Alex fans

Maybe you didn’t look in the right places. The news of the accident spread in the media just a couple of hours after it happened. In addition to family members, some surfers, who were with him on Mentawai, posted their condolences soon after.
It is part of human nature to be empathetic to the suffering of those we admire. Even though we know that they (Alex) will probably never read our comments, we allow ourselves to feel bad and join in the pain and mourning for this tragic death. Honestly, I am sure that, as always, FOYeur and Paula tried to verify the veracity of the information before publishing the news.
In my opinion, your comment insinuating that the news (or any of the condolence comments) is intended to interfere with the family’s privacy or grief is a bit off. I’m sure that’s not the case.
As for me, I am deeply sorry for the passing of Mikala, as well as for the mourning of Malia, Alex and their entire family. Rest in peace.

Amy, I live in the US. I googled Mikala’s name and came up with numerous articles (and videos) on this tragic accidental death. Many of his surfing friends have posted beautiful, public farewells to to him. He IS a public figure and a hero in the surfing world. He traveled all over the world and filmed some of the most stunning videos ever of riding inside the curl. They’re breathtaking! You’re right there with him.

He was a lovely human being. Malia comes from a very special and beloved family. I’m profoundly sorry for their loss.

When I typed in Mikala’s name, I found 20-30 articles on Google. FOYeur would never post this information if it was private. It was already public knowledge rapidly circling the globe. Many of his surfing friends had already posted beautiful tributes to him, the very MOMENT they learned this sad news. Mikala was a world renowned surfer and a public figure.

Geez, people! I was only sharing my opinion!
    I can’t disagree with you?
I’m only going to be accepted if I agree with each and every single post one hundred percent of the time? That’s very mature!
I could go on and on about this but I would be wasting my time so I’m saying goodbye.
I’m obviously not the type of fan that you all are. I am a calm mature fan who doesn’t need to “intensively study” Alex.
I don’t need to follow his family members on social media with the hopes of finding out info on Alex.
To me he is just like everybody else: a regular guy who is trying to live a private life.
I would suggest that you all think about doing the same but I would be wasting my time.

The information was shared with good intentions. I am disappointed that society’s general bitchyness has infected this site. My philosophy is ‘if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything’.

This site is open to all sort of opinions. You don’t have to agree 100% with every post, nor with every comment. You have been visiting this site long enough to know that.

It’s not the first time that you complain about the information FOYeur and Paula post. According to you, some of their posts are very intrusive. You make them sound as if they were spending their time prying into Alex’s private life just to offer us ghoulish fans indiscrete information. Well, let me tell you that I personally (and I’m sure that many of us) find that they are extremely respectful towards Alex. Never have they posted one single line that was not public information.

So, relax, Amytemple, visit this site with an open mind, without making value judgments. Don’t set yourself up as the pure, flawless fan, relegating us to the ranks of immature guys filled with unhealthy curiosity. Enjoy your time here, enjoy the funny, wise, hilarious, thoughtful posts and comments, and above all, enjoy Alex.

      • Very well said!
Amy, if you’re still reading here, let me assure you, Paula and FOYeur would never, never, share information they know about but Alex and his family never talked to public about. This stuff is private and it will stay that way. You just have to trust me on this. Although we’re sometimes a little bit silly here, we’re mature enough to respect Alex‘s privacy and have done so for years.

Let’s remember to love and respect each other, even those with whom we do not always agree, for we all have but a brief moment on this earth to leave a positive imprint of our time here.
