Life around #AlexOLoughlin – a week in review (19 – 25 July 2015)

First of all, on a general note – ‘Thank you’ twitter for making our world a little duller by taking away all the pretty backgrounds and with it, hurting our eyes with your all white background …….

Life on the Set:

This week a number of picture from the set were posted. Most of them came from the filming in and around the studios of Hawaii News Now.

  •  Posted by Percy The Small Engine:

Well, since I couldn’t take a picture WITH Alex, the least I can do is sit in his chair! Ooh, to…

This was the closest I got today to the one and only Alex O’Loughlin! Wish I could’ve taken a photo…

  • Some more pictures from the set posted by @JelloBabyChe  – Here is the post of them all by AOLww earlier this week.

  •  Hawaii News Now reported about their part in the episode – they are not giving away any spoilers of what part they actually play in it.

Thank you to  @LisaLisa98 for posting the clip from Hawaii News Now:

Here is the link to her video

We really do hope that this new-found love between HNN and H5-0 will result in some better coverage (and hopefully continues live stream) of the SOTB event by the News channel this year! For so many fans from all over the world, it is the only way that we can feel like we are part of and can experience this fun evening……

  • Thank you to Chi McBride’s wife Julissa for posting this picture of the boys on the set on her Instagram:

Fan photos:

  • A big thank you to @SurfBelle2 on Twitter for posting this great find. The picture was posted on the site in November 2013 – but we guess it must have been taken when Alex and Saxon visited Bora Bora in Hiatus 2013 (Late June early July). At the time Alex adopted a turtle called Matilda at  Bora Bora Turtle Center

 News for the week:

  • Sunset on the Beach (SOTB) will be on:

12 September 2015,

two weeks before season premiere on CBS  on

25 September 2015.

You can read about it here on a report from Mike Gordon at Star Advertiser. Mike also tweeted that they would most probably do a live stream broadcast again. And of course we will keep yo up to date on those links when the time comes.

We hope all the lucky fans who are able to go, will enjoy their time at the event.

  • Something that we all missed with the break in transmission of the “live” stream of Hawaii News Now from the blessing ceremony on 8 July, was the actual blessing itself. Wendie from The Five-0 Redux attended the event and posted her recording of it and you can watch it  here.

Thank you to Wendie for posting it.

Something Pretty from other fans:

Some fandom laughs for the week:

  • Daniel Dae Kim tweet about Scott Caan’s comment about a fake Twitter account impersonating him – and what do people do? They rejoice about the fact ‘that Scott is now on twitter‘ and immediately 200 people follow the fake account ……the fake account gets reported and disappear – just to pop up again a day later

And on a lighter note …..

  •  Anita @alavenia tweeted this snapshot of Steve and Mick celebrating  #NationalIceCreamDay 😉

Some Trivia for the week:

  • The reports came in this week that Steve’s lovable Aunt Deb aka Carol Burnett 😀 , will be awarded the 2015 special ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, at the SAG awards next year January. What a wonderful privilege for Alex and the team to work with such a legend of the industry. Peter answered a tweet earlier and said that she (Aunt Deb) will be seen in the new season again.

My Pet Peeves: :drama:

  • If you follow us on Facebook,  you might have guessed my gripe for the week – fans twisting Alex’s words to fit what they want to think he said…..

Most ‘interesting’ search for the week:

As you all know, we get a lot of fun from the searches that land people on our site. We thought it could be some fun to share some of it …. this weeks winner

  • butt measurement of alex o’loughlin

Thought (Tweet) for the week:

Once you hate someone, everything they do is annoying. “Look at this bitch, sitting there breathing like she owns the place.”

(Makes you think about the unforgiving hatred going around the fandom ….)

Next Week:

  • If they work according to normal schedule, filming of episode 6:02, directed by H5-0 stunt coordinator Jeff Cadiente@airjef, should continue this week …. and they will most probably move on to the shooting episode 6:03 by the last days of the week.

See you next week 🙂

#AlexOLoughlin & Friends: Big Ask – September 2011

It is a rare opportunity to see what an actor-friend of Alex has to say about him. Someone who never worked with him on a big project, but share the craft with him. Hope you enjoy this glimpse that we get during an interview shared by one of his long time friends.

And of course enjoy the pretty picture we added ……

Big Ask: with “Off The Map’s”, Martin Henderson

By Holly Byrnes

National Features

September 2011

GETTING beyond his soap opera start, a turn as Britney Spears’ boyfriend in her video clip Toxic, and the death of friend Heath Ledger toughened up Martin Henderson to the jungle that is Hollywood.

He’s taking on the wilds of new medical drama, Off The Map.

You had some reservations about taking on a TV role. Why?

Martin: It wasn’t a light decision, because I grew up doing a lot of it in New Zealand and Australia. I went to New York for a while before I moved to LA and I was very clear that I didn’t want to do TV.

For a decade, basically, I didn’t even entertain the idea. I was a little fearful of the commitment that could be involved.

123 bw 1

What changed?

Martin: I got to a point, you know, I’m in my 30s now and the idea of running off here and there for three months here and four months there (for film or theatre) wasn’t as appealing.

I kind of craved a little more of a normal existence. And I have my home here just outside in Topanga up in the hills and my dog and my garden, and I wanted to be around more.

Do you feel comfortable in Hollywood?

Martin: I don’t really have much to do with it. It’s kind of how I earn my living, but my life has nothing to do with it, really, at all.

When I’m not acting, I’m usually sailing or camping or exploring or travelling or spending time in New Zealand.

123 bw 3

This series is set in the Amazon, but is filmed in Hawaii. Do you meet up with the Hawaii Five-O guys and go surfing?

Martin: Well, Alex O’Loughlin is an old friend.

Actually, when he first came to LA he stayed at my house. My first surfing was with him when I got here.

He had already been in Hawaii a month, so he’s like “come on, mate, we’ll go and get in the water”.

123 bw 4

Are you two helping each other through this whole new leading man experience? You know, that phone call where you ring each other and say, “I’m terrified”?

Martin: We do, we have pretty candid, honest conversations about it. I think Alex and I are similar in that way.

We really love acting and sometimes it can be all about the other stuff. And I think that’s probably where we lend each other the most help – just being able to laugh at it.

When you’re being objectified?

Martin: (Laughs) Yeah, I think you get viewed in a certain way that’s not necessarily you.

I think it’s healthy to have a friend like that, you don’t take yourself too seriously.

123 bw 2

Your Off the Map character, Ben Keeton … what was the appeal of playing him?

Martin: I was interested in the humanitarian aspect. You know, what it is about is a doctor who chooses to leave the First World and go down to somewhere like the Amazon, where people don’t have access to the kind of health care we take for granted, who put themselves on the line. People who do that are compelled to do that through sort of altruistic needs.

We read stories about how the cast and crew from Lost bonded by going skinny-dipping in Hawaii. Have you done that yet?

Martin: Yes, I have (laughs). I was staying at Sunset Beach. There was … one full moon night. I mean, it was warm.

123 c 1

My Thoughts

  • I wonder if the Hawaii Five-0 cast ever bonded by going skinny-dipping in the ocean in those early days? 😛
  • Unfortunately for Martin “Off the Map lasted only 13 episode. But it looks like he has been busy with many other projects since then.

#AlexOLoughlin : Raw Appeal of Aussie Export – May 2010

The ridiculously buff Alex O’Loughlin is set to make female hearts swoon, writes Andrew Fenton

The Advertiser in Adelaide,

 Herald Sun

And The Daily Telegraph

 20 May 2010

tbup c 4

There’s a scene about midway through The Back-up Plan in which Alex O’Loughlin takes off his shirt to reveal a ludicrously muscular chest and a six-pack. He plays Stan, a cheese-seller. And from the looks of things, Stan is the fittest cheese-seller in history.

“Cheese-sellers are pretty big, though – so I went method on this one,”

laughs the Australian actor on the phone from Los Angeles, the day after the film’s premiere.

He explains he was offered a physical trainer by the filmmakers – but then got a bit carried away.

“When I saw it last night, I was like: ‘Dude! You’re too fit! You shouldn’t have got that fit for that movie!”

tbup bw c 3

But on the scale of things, being overly fit to play an entirely credible cheese merchant in a romantic comedy opposite Jennifer Lopez is a fairly good problem to have.

Five years ago, when the AFI-nominated actor (The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant) moved to Los Angeles, he was greeted with characteristic indifference.

“I didn’t work for the first few years, times got a bit tough and I found myself on a mate’s couch,” he says. “But then things came good.”

Now 33, his luck changed when he was cast as Detective Kevin Hiatt for a seven-episode run in The Shield. He followed that up with the family feature film August Rush and began to develop a massive female following thanks to his starring role as vampire-cum-private investigator Mick St. John in Moonlight.

mick ml1 interview w v

Some of these female fans appear very devoted.

“I dare say,” he says. “It’s kind of weird. I really appreciate the support, it’s very validating. But they only know a version of me; they know what my face looks like and there are only a few people who really know me.”

Unfortunately for O’Loughlin though, the show never really recovered from the halt in production caused by the Hollywood writers’ strike and it wasn’t picked up for a second season.

His next show, medical drama Three Rivers, suffered a similar fate, getting the chop after just eight of 13 episodes were screened.

Little wonder he’s developed something of a nihilistic coping strategy.

“There are moments when you grab for hope, but if you grab for hope, you’re dead,” he says. “You can’t hope, it’s the nature of the world, the nature of this industry and how it works. All you’ve got is you, and so you show up, you do your best and then go home and try to forget about it.”

That probably explains why O’Loughlin is trying not to get his hopes up about his latest role as Detective Steve McGarrett in the CBS remake of Hawaii Five-0.

While only a pilot has been filmed so far, the series looks very promising, coming from the writers who recently resurrected Star Trek.

mcg pose bw guns

He says he’s under strict instructions not to talk about it.

“What I can say is that we’ve finished the pilot, it’s gone in (to CBS) and we don’t know about a pick-up yet; but it’s something I’m very excited about,” he says. “I was a bit young to be a fan of the show, but I knew it and this is a very modern take on it – it’s a really good remake.”

The vast majority of O’Loughlin’s television work has been with CBS – so it’s no surprise to see the actor headlining The Back-up Plan, which comes from CBS Films.

tbup bw c 5

“Bonds of trust exist, he explains.

The film is fairly high-concept – after waiting all her life to meet the right man and start a family, Zo (J.Lo) becomes pregnant through artificial insemination on the very same day she meets Mr Right (O’Loughlin). Hilarity ensues.

“You couldn’t have made this movie thirty years ago, it wouldn’t have fitted the zeitgeist; but today you can,” O’Loughlin says.

“It’s about women who have their lives together but don’t have a partner and want a family – and can do it now.”

tbup c 8

In real life, of course, Lopez got pregnant the old-fashioned way (to singer Marc Anthony) and gave birth to twins in 2008.

After having been provisionally offered the role, O’Loughlin dropped by the Lopez family home on Long Island with director Alan Poul (Six Feet Under).

“I met her and Marc and the kids, and we hung out,” he says. “Then Jen and I had a ‘chemistry meeting’ with the director, Alan. Essentially what we do is find out if we get each other – are we going to have a laugh?

“It’s like when you go to the pub and you meet someone, you work that out pretty quickly: You’re like, ‘Yeah, nah, I don’t want to have another beer with you’, or, ‘Let’s hang out’. It was just like that.”
