The Steve McGarrett Story – No #104 (Steve in shades of blue)

We continue our story from here

If I take away all feelings about  favourite actors and characters, and look at this episode just as the procedural drama that it is, I was thoroughly entertained. This is the kind of show the Network wants from Hawaii  Five-0 and it seems also what most fans like and enjoy. But this post, as the title says, is about Steve’s story……

Unfortunately, there was no new developement in the overall story of Steve’ s life. One nice thing about the story though, was Steve helping out some of his friends again, like in old days. Setting Kamekona up with a “shrimp-cooking” teacher to help him win the competition. Also helping the bounty hunter girl collecting her “pay cheque”, and by doing so, in the end also granting her her wish and passing on the reward money to the man who nearly lost his life over the painting.

I saw somebody comment on twitter, that a good entertaining episode, hides a multitude of sins. (Even the confusion of which paintings was where and when and framed or not, and stolen at what stage or not)  So fortunately there is nothing for me to moan or complain about either. Oops, that means I have no story to write about and we’ll just have to enjoy Paula’s beautiful screencaps of Alex Steve. 😆

In December I posted a poll asking why you watch Hawaii Five-0. We did not get a large voter count – only 107 in total, but it did paint a picture for me.

  • With 51% of the voters (55 votes) saying that they watch the show for a character/actor and I would guess mostly for Alex, as this is a site that mostly only cover Alex.
  • Nearly 46% (49 votes) said that they watch Hawaii Five-0 for the full package (Alex + character stuff + procedural +Hawaii as location)

We also ran a little poll asking what viewers would prefer about the number of episode per season and how much we would like to see of Alex in them. The questions were maybe not clearly defined and the voter count was even smaller, but it also told its own little story:

  • Of the 97 voters, nearly 58% (53 votes) said that they would prefer a shorter H5-0 season, but Alex in the episodes fulltime.
  • Then 27% (25 votes) said that they did not care if it is a long of short season, as long as the show is on the air.
  • And 15% (14 votes) said that it is okay with them if Alex takes some time off and that a longer season is fine, even if he is not there in all the episodes 100% all the time.

In the comments of that post, one of our readers, Colleen, suggested that we should ask the ages of the readers and the Alex fans here. Joy also agreed that it would be fun to see in what age group most fans fall. Our FB profile has given me a fair indication of what the outcome might be and we can share that with you later, but let’s try it here as well. 🙂 (It is totally anonymous and easy to vote (and with it to share your age with us). So please help us out by participating – the more of you participating, the more accurate the outcome. )

(PS. I know many of us are only 12 on most days (if measured by our naughty thoughts 😛 ) and that most of us are 28 and turning 29 forever, but give your actual age for this one please 😀 )

It was a good, fun episode, with the perfect amount of intrigue (and good music!) the writers did a great job and what’s not to love about Steve, Kono and Chin dressed up and still kick ass and we even got some bonus McGrover time! I loved that Chin channeled Vincent’s glasses – epic on the writers part!

I must have missed the earlier polls (was in the hospital) but here’s my 2 cents now. I watch the show for Alex – no surprise there! As for the length of the season and Alex, selfishly I’d love a longer season with Alex in all episodes, but would be satisfied with quality (over quantity) Alex time so a shorter season with Alex present would work for me.

    • Quality over quantity would be nice and bet Alex would prefer it too. As a Games of Thrones fan, getting just 10 episodes a year, is enough. They are really well made (not comparing to the books), tons of main actors, and I never feel something is missing. Pure entertainment. I wish H50 could be that too. If Alex continues in TV (after H50), I wish he finds a new home at HBO 🙂

  4. Even though it was just a procedural episode with nothing new about Steve I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, it was so much fun and full of twists and turns. And we got the real Steve, the leader and the great supporting friend. Needless to say that I didn’t miss Danny one bit. Quite the contrary.
So many good looking people, Chin, Kono (I think I hate Grace Park a little bit, she is 40 isn’t she… no jk… she’s a beauty) but Steve/Alex was stunning. Suit, shirts, perfection. So thank you so much for all your amazing screens and gifs!

  5. I have to say I enjoyed this weeks and last weeks epsiode… the whole girls gotta eat angle reminded me of Catwoman in the dark knight rises which is cool because the stolen art bounty hunter was like catwoman (without the ego lol)

I really enjoyed this episode. It had an interesting COTW and funny moments.

Despite we didn’t have new development on Steve’s story, we have several pics, gifs and wardrobe choices to drool over.I really enjoyed this episode. It had an interesting COTW and funny moments.
