Looking back at our ‘tortured’ past – High Five for Hawaii Five-0, Season 5?

About nine months ago, on 14 March, to be exact we posted the good news  that we will be ‘tortured’ with another season of Hawaii Five-0 again. (Link to that post) I stumbled upon it again, while searching for something else. The post contained a few wishes or requests that we had for the new season (Season 5). It was actually funny to see which needs were met so far and which ones we did not nearly get at all. It was also interesting to see the many comments and  the debate with the post. And it was also great to see some old familiar names there who ‘liked’ the post and commented on it.

Well Steve definitely got tortured – AGAIN….. by WoFat…..for something he did not know at all….again…. But do we also feel ‘tortured’?

Paula and I thought it might be nice to compare our wishes listed then, to those we actually got……..

  • Our first request was for Alex as Steve to grow his hair a little longer and to leave some of the grey there.  To me that wish was only half granted. His hair is not really so terribly short, but it is also not really that much longer. And it appears to have gotten shorter after the first episodes this season.
  • Request # 2 – to burn all his Season 4 shirts. It was mainly my wish and I should maybe explain what I meant by it. I find those shirts of him very fuddy-duddy like. My 25-year-old nephew asked me why Steve dresses so “old”? And  the stupid thing about those shirts, is that Steve have to change into a T-shirt in any case, for when he puts on his Kevlar. Why choose wardrobe that don’t fit the needs for your job? AND the main thing is, why do we never see him change from the fuddy-duddy shirts to the T-shirts he wears under the Kevlar? That might be fun …..seeing him change clothes…strapping on the thigh holster……. *sigh*…… oops, where was I? 😛 (PS. But we do appreciate the mostly great moments we did get with Steve in something else than his “good-old-blue-shirt” glasses-smiley
  • It seems like the white saggy pants got lost. And I kind of dig the new pants with all the zips on the legs. It just feels like his pants in general are fitting him better this season. I think most of us would prefer some lighter pants though. Maybe they will come – soon? smiley-pray

Next up: Steve doing more SEAL stuff again – How do you feel,  did we get enough ‘Badass’ Steve so far? With Alex’s stunt-double Justin leaving the show at the end of Epi 515, we surely hope that most of those dangerous stuff for the season is already in the bag.

  • ‘The key to continuation in the story is small things, like a stolen glance between lovers that mean something.  A quick call or a message from aunt Deb or Mary, to let us know how they are – not just a sudden appearance out of thin air.'<<<< At least we got that one reference to Aunt Deb and Mary and the call to Mary from the graveyard – yeah smiley-whistling
  • Sadly another live tweet was not granted, but at least Alex and Scott got to answer some fan questions. smiley-snicker
  • We asked for less squinting and some sunglasses for the team, but it looks like Steve keeps his sunglasses for visiting his dads grave. Back then, in Epi 104 and now again in 505 smiley-snicker
  • Ah – At least we got some new promotional picture for Season 5!! smiley-Black_cat___Free_avatar_by_Reiketu

(I was so glad, I did not even mind the fuddy-duddy old blue shirt)

  • Apart from tortured shirtless Steve, our wish for “nakedness” was not really granted. Although we did get Kono in a bikini in nearly every episode. So at least the guys and the girls who are into her, got something to look at. But sadly I think we might never see Steve shirtless ever again.

smiley-crying

  • Back to our request #3 – Honesty from the producers about reasons why main cast members are not available for filming. Okay, this one is most probably too much to ask for, but luckily we have other sources that help “some” of us to understand why our favourite star is missing in action. For instance we know Scott was not on set for those first 2 weeks of shooting, because his baby-girl Josie was born. And we know Alex was hardly in the last episode (509), because he went to Japan with his friend Enson – And with that we once again want to thank Enson for providing us with the best non-work related news about Alex. Enson, you are a star!

bubbles

And with this “Do-wishes-come-true?”, we wish everyone a Happy New Year and all the best for 2015!wine smiley

#AlexOLoughlin Talks “The Back-Up Plan,” Jennifer Lopez, and Crazy Fans – April 2010

If you saw the movie The Back-Up Plan this past weekend, you might be wondering, Wow, who’s that really hot guy starring in it? Well, that really hot guy is Alex O’Loughlin, an Australian actor who, before hitting the big screen, had starred in the TV series Moonlight and The Shield. I sat down with Alex to talk about his movie and his upcoming projects … and, yes, he’s that hot in real life.

Stan in TBUP

Question: You’ve played a detective in The Shield, a vampire in Moonlight … all of these serious roles. Was it difficult to go from drama to comedy? Which is your favorite genre to work in?

Alex: I think I’m more comfortable being in dramatic roles, but I like both. Comedy is more challenging. With drama you work with the director and other actors, and you work your way to the point you need to get to.

With comedy, you have to go at it full-steam and be ready to fall on your face. You gotta be ready to fall gloriously.

Question: What was it like working with Jennifer Lopez? Did the chemistry come naturally between you two?

Alex: Oh, she’s great, she’s a great actor, great person, very grounded presence on the set.

After I was offered the role, we met at her house on Long Island to see how we liked each other, and before long, we were laughing together, and it just sort of made sense, so we went with it. The chemistry was definitely there from the beginning.

Stan & Zoe

Question: She seems like such a great mom. Have you met her twins? Did she ever bring them on set?

Alex: Yeah, she did! It was great, it was really lovely having that family vibe on the set. Essentially, a set is like an adults’ playground, it’s not that often that you turn around and see kids. It was a really lovely change from the norm for everyone.

Question: What is it about “Stan” that you can most relate to?

Alex: He reminds me of myself a few years ago. He’s at a point in his life where he feels like something is missing, but he’s not really sure what it is. He’s going back to school, but it’s not making sense, and then he meets Zoe and he realizes that maybe love is what’s missing.

And he goes for it. And when we’re younger, I think at some point we all wonder, What am I doing with my life, I don’t feel fulfilled, and yeah, I’ve been there.

xnyc_park_18aahr

Question: The whole situation in The Back-Up Plan is pretty nontraditional. If this happened to you in real life, what would you do? Stay or run like hell the other way?

Alex: For Stan, I think it’s different because there’s no ex-husband or biological father around the corner. He can step up and be like, “I can be the father to these kids and they won’t be confused, it’ll just be me.”

If this identical situation happened to me … I don’t know. I haven’t met that woman yet, I haven’t met that one woman who’s my soul mate. I don’t think … at least not that I know of! I’d like to think I’d do what he did.

Essentially in life, love is everything, whether it’s love for a woman, or love for your kids, your family … at the end of the day, that’s the stuff that’s the most important.

Alex & Jen on set

Question: You seem to have quite the fan base built up … what’s the craziest thing you’ve seen a fan do?

Alex: I think the craziest stuff is when girls send photos of themselves in lingerie with their address written on it saying,  Come bite my neck. [laughs] I’m like Wow, these girls are ballsy.”

Question: Your next TV series project, Hawaii 5.0, is based on a 1970s series … how different is it from the original?

Alex: It’s very different. It’s the same in that it’s in Hawaii, it’s a task force, and they catch bad guys. But that’s where the similarities end. The characters have different backgrounds, and it’s really action-packed … it’s going to be good.

Alex & JLo

Question: Have you seen The Back-Up Plan yet? Do you hope to see more of Alex in leading roles?

Lunch with a vampire – Alex O’ on SueTube – July 2007

Mick

In the private dining room of Circa 55 at The Beverly Hilton, about six reporters gathered for lunch with the charismatic star of CBS’ new vampire series “Moonlight,” which had a major renovation from the presentation version sent out to critics and advertisers. The only actor left standing after the housecleaning was lead Alex O’Loughlin, a charming Australian actor best known in the United States for his role this season on FX’s “The Shield.” (Note to “Veronica Mars” fans: Alex’s new vamp pal will be played by Jason Dohring.)

Alex, 30, tells us his mom was devastated by the widely reported Internet rumor that he was one of many children fathered by the late AC/DC wild man Bon Scott.“She wasn’t very happy being called a harlot,” Alex says. “And my dad wasn’t very happy either.’”

Alex & Kate

O’Loughlin just finished filming a movie with Kate Beckinsale and says after a dry spell he’s finally getting some juice into his career. “I had sold my car and had to sell my motorbike,” Alex, who was being considered for such roles as James Bond, says. Then I got the chance to go on ‘The Shield,’ which I love, and then this and two movies.”

Alex as Kevin

He’s so giddy about it all, he doesn’t even mind going to San Diego next week for Comic Con to boost Moonlight’s profile before it airs in September. He’s got all of the vamp folklore down solid and he’s waiting to show it all off. “(Producer) Joel Silver told me ‘You ARE going to Comic Con,’ ” Alex says with a laugh. “I’m ready.”

And it helps to have the beloved icon of vampdom on board, David Greenwalt of “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel.” David will be overseeing the series and keeping it in the right vein.

#H50 Remake, Roughed Up Star #AlexOLoughlin – March 2010

Alex in TBUP

CBS has commissioned a pilot for a new version of  Hawaii Five-0. The original island cop drama starred Jack Lord as detective Steve McGarrett, leader of an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police. Alex O’Loughin stars as McGarrett in the new version.

Hollywood News

31 March 2010

“It’s the biggest pilot CBS has ever shot I believe,”

O’Loughlin said on a break from shooting. He’d returned to Los Angeles from Oahu to promote his feature film, The Back-up Plan.

“It’s the biggest pilot I’ve ever shot.”

The new Hawaii Five-O promises to be action packed. O’Loughlin is still smarting from the stunts he’s performed himself.

“I’ve been getting thrown out of tanks, beaten around the island of Oahu for a couple of weeks and I’ve just come back.”

The hunk factor likely comes into play. O’Loughlin has taken his shirt off in films and television, to the delight of fans. If he’s seen running down the beach with an open Hawaiian shirt blowing in the wind, you’ll see just how roughly the new Hawaii Five-O is treating him.

”If I took my shirt off, I look like a beaten piece of beef.”

That’s about all O’Loughlin can say for now.

“I’ve been given direct orders not to talk about it. I’m allowed to say three things about the show. I’m very excited about it and I hope all the fans really enjoy what we’ve done.”

You may know the Australian hunk from the short-lived vampire series Moonlight, or the short-lived medical drama Three Rivers. Rest assured he does not take this American TV icon lightly.

“First of all, I’m deeply grateful to live and work in this country and to the United States for opening its arms to me the way it has. My attitude as an Aussie coming here, I’ve been coming here for a while now, sort of been coming here for 12 or 13 years.

This country has afforded me, my family work, and security. For that, I’m forever grateful. As an extension of that, being accepted to the point and loved to the point by you guys that I’m allowed to step into someone like Jack Lord’s shoes to play a character like Steve McGarrett in Hawaii Five O is massive for me. It’s not lost on me the significance of that.”

#AlexOLoughlin – Previews Criminal Turn & Opens Up About His Post-Moonlight “Tailspin” – April 2009

Can a serial killer played by Alex O’Loughlin slake his thirst for murder?

The star of TV’s too-short-lived Moonlight talked to TVGuide.com about his compelling guest spot on CBS’ Criminal Minds. Plus: Why Alex O’s fans should give his new medical drama a chance.

by Matt Mitovich,

TV Guide,

28 April 2009

Mick St John

TVGuide.com: Where have ya been, man? We had a long stretch there, after Moonlight went bye-bye, where the fans were missing you terribly.

Alex: Yeah, I didn’t work for like 10 months.

I went back to Australia for a minute, and then I went and sat in a forest for a couple months and got my thoughts together. I did a bunch of writing….

Essentially, I went into a bit of a tailspin and left the country, to Mexico, out of phone range. I was kind of upset.

TVGuide.com: Well, nearly a year later, not a week goes by that I don’t get a Moonlight fan asking not if, but when it is coming back.

Alex: [Laughs] You know, the other day I was in Pittsburgh shooting [the CBS pilot Three Rivers], when this girl comes running up to me.

Before I could finish ascertaining what I thought was going to happen, she pounced through the air, like a tiger, and landed on my chest with her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist.

After I got her off and thanked her for the hug, she demanded to know when Moonlight was coming back.

Alex Three Rivers

TVGuide.com: And you had to break her heart.

Alex: I had to taser her…. No, I had to tell her that I didn’t think it was [returning].

TVGuide.com: Exactly what measures were taken to possibly save Moonlight?

Alex: I don’t know exactly what happened after they cut it. I know they talked to CW, they talked to TNT … a bunch of people.

TVGuide.com: Is there anything you can share about what was going to happen next on the show?

Alex: What I do know is that there was going to be some really cool stuff going on with Eric Winters’ character, [the ADA] who was gathering the list of vampires.

Criminal Minds

TVGuide.com: Turning to the April 29 episode of Criminal Minds: [Series creator] Ed Bernero told me that your serial killer reaches out to the BAU for “help” — and he put “help” in quotation marks.

Alex: There are a few twists, and I can’t tell you what they are. But the thing that I love about this episode is that we find a very disturbed character — a guy whose life is run by obsession and by compulsion, and he can’t stop this pattern of killing.

But he wants salvation. He finds a child, and the child represents perhaps the last bit of innocence within himself.

This is what I drew from the character when I first read the script, and I hope that’s what we see when the show plays.

The episode was written by a friend of mine, Simon Mirren, who is very, very talented.

TVGuide.com: Paget Brewster told me that you had the women on the set all atwitter.

Alex: Oh, boo. Come on. I must have missed that! [Laughs]

Alex and Jake Cherry

From Paget Brewster’s interview:

TVGuide.com: Have you shot the episode with Alex O’Loughlin (Moonlight) yet?

Brewster: Oh, Alex…. Alex sets all the girls into a twitter. Various departments were vying for Alex‘s attention. We just finished that this past Saturday morning, at 5:30 am.

TVGuide.com: Did Prentiss get a “moment” with Alex?

Brewster: No, No…. Prentiss had no moments with Alex! [Laughs]

He’s a cutie-pie! There’s a little kid, Jake Cherry (Desperate Housewives), in that episode, and he’s amazing too.

All our guest stars are extraordinary, which we need to remember. We’re there every day, and we have long-standing jokes with the crew, so we need to remember there is someone standing next to us, acting [as if] they’re about to die or their child has been murdered.

They’re working up all this emotion, and we’re hiding fart machines from each other. We’re the most childish set, and we love it!

Back to Alex’ interview…….

Three Rivers - Dr Andy

TVGuide.com: You went from taking lives on Criminal Minds to saving lives on the CBS drama pilot Three Rivers. Sell me on the concept.

Alex: It’s set in Pittsburgh, where the Monongahela, Allegheny, and Ohio rivers meet, and it’s told from three perspectives — the organ donor, the organ recipient, and the surgical team.

That of course means that in every episode, someone dies and someone potentially lives, so it’s always very high-stakes.

The show is really well-written and smart and sensitive. It’s a beautiful little hour of TV.

TVGuide.com: I just know that some of your Moonlight fans are concerned that the premise, on paper, doesn’t sound dynamic enough for their Alex O’Loughlin.

Dr Andy

Alex: It’s absolutely dynamic enough. I plead with my Moonlight fans to give this show a chance if they let me give it a chance.

I can’t do Moonlight again — it’s finished.

The bottom line is that my true fans will follow me where I go.

TVGuide.com: I take it that your Three Rivers character, Dr. Andy Yablonski, is not Australian.

Alex: [Laughs] No, he’s not. They offered me the role, and I was like, “Can I at least audition as an Australian?” “G’day! Do you need a new heart?”

TVGuide.com: And they weren’t buying.

Alex: No, they weren’t.

TVGuide.com: Was Three Rivers the first project that CBS sent you as part of your talent deal with them?

Alex: No, no. They had a bunch of other things.

Alex as Dr Andy

TVGuide.com: Did they try to add you to any existing series?

Alex: Mmmm…. There was talk about a couple bits and pieces that we didn’t take seriously.

TVGuide.com: When are you doing that Jennifer Lopez movie, The Back-Up Plan?

Alex: That films in like two weeks. She plays a 40-year-old girl who hasn’t found the one and wants to have a baby, so she gets artificially inseminated.

Then she meets the guy of her dreams — and that’s me.
