The Steve McGarrett Story – No #77

We continue our story from here

Cath returns from her evening run, clearly still upset about how things happened with Billy’s death………

Steve: Catherine, you can’t keep doing this. You gotta stop punishing yourself for Billy’s death.

Cath: Steve, please don’t.

Steve: Would you please just listen to me. I’ve been there, okay. I promise you, I’ve been exactly where you are right now. When you loose somebody like that, you start second guessing everything you do. And you start thinking of all the ways it could have been different. You gotta stop, ok. I promise you, you do not want to carry that weight.

I’m not saying forget, Catherine. I’m saying you gotta forgive yourself a bit. And… and give yourself a chance to move on.

Cath: I want to. I want to. I just don’t know how. My whole life was the Navy, Steve. Knowing where I had to be every hour of every day. What I had to do. I had a purpose and it’s all gone now.

Steve: Right, that’s why you got to find something. And it doesn’t even have to be a job. It doesn’t matter what it is. But you’ve gotta find something. You putting your life on hold, is not going to bring Billy back.

Catherine finds herself something to do, to keep her busy with.  She starts investigating Sato’s money man in Hawaii, Ryu Nabushi. Adam more or less gave himself up to be capture and he is now in Sato’s hands (or already dead). Although he did it to help Kono to get away, she does not want to return before she finds him. For Cath, following the money trail seems to be the best way to find Sato and with it Adam.

Chin tells Steve about the progress Cath made to locate Sato. Steve returns home and find  Cath working on the case.

Steve: Hey.

Cath: Hey.

Steve: Thought you can use some dinner.

Cath: Thanks.

Steve: So, keeping busy.

Cath: Just taking your advice.

Steve: So what’s the plan?

Yes, and Cath ended up being quite the Ohana-helper. I loved this story.

I know this is about alex’s back-story but injust wanted to say that I really liked michelle portraying cath! Those billy scenes were sad and emotional but she never overdid it with the crying and the emotions!
Like this talk in the kitchen, she tried to control herself (as cath) not going all crying and hugging (well, a hug would have been nice 😉 )!!! She made cath a tough character, as being in the Navy for so long, but still a human with feelings (but mostly kept these to herself) and i really loved this! It’s such a waste she’s gone out of his life!

    • Cath is/was a very big part of Steve’s life. In fact she is the woman that knows him best as a man. His mother and Mary knew him as a boy. And Kono knows him as a boss.
Cath knew him as a lover, a friend and a colleague – for many many years.
And I agree with you that up untill this point, Michelle did an excellent portrayal of Cath. A tough military woman, but still a vulnerable woman. It is really sad to see the life of the character leave so to speak, from here on.
Steve’s story is and would have been very empty without her!
It is truly sad circumstances that forced her character to be written out of the story ………..

I’ve seen other tv shows messing up with the “love-tingling-factor” – so i guess it’s just difficult to handle these properly!
Well, with steve/cath it was different ’cause they already had each other 😉 !! Fictive characters aren’t supposed to be happy, i guess!
