TV star says Paleo Diet helped after rehab – Oct 2013

People who have met hard times (even of their own making), but who are able to seek help and turn things around, are a great inspiration. Yesterday I was looking at some gorgeous pictures from the last episode of Hawaii Five-0 and once again saw some of the comments about how Alex keep on looking better and better. Of course he matured physically, as well as on a personal level since the start of Hawaii Five-0, but he also looks so at ease in his own skin at the moment.

This old article shows some of the steps Alex took to turn things around for himself since those hard times at the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012. It always makes me thankful to see that he was strong enough at heart, to make the changes that helped him to recover.

Hawaii Five-0 actor Alex O’Loughlin has overhauled his health and diet following his stint in rehab last year. The Australian star checked himself into a clinic to receive professional help to beat his addiction to painkillers after getting hooked on the pills following a shoulder injury.

He took time off from the show to focus on his recovery and has adopted the strict Paleolithic eating regime, which restricts followers to the diet of early humans.

He tells Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald, “I feel really good; I’ve made a few dietary changes and I’m exploring the whole Paleo thing and training hard, so I’m feeling good.”

  • Paleo diet: A diet based on the types of foods presumed to have been eaten by early humans, consisting chiefly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, and excluding dairy or grain products and processed food.

I so agree with you. I was worried about Alex in 2012 when he looked so ill. I was very pleased with the way he handled it all. Whatever he’s doing these days it’s certainly working. He may be getting older as we all are but wow he’s getting better and better. I think the way he looks right now is better than ever and I didn’t think that was possible. Love this man.

My daughter-in-law adheres very strictly to this Paleo diet. I can tell you it is a lot of work to cook that way. Good thing she likes to cook. I always enjoy what she cooks when I visit, but have to confess I could never give up carbs completely…unless it was medically necessary. It’s amazing how well Alex has done since the rehab. I am so proud of him, and Malia was there when he really needed her.
