The Steve McGarrett Story – No # 166 (Epi 7:23)

Although I find the idea of this episode interesting, I feel it is as if they somehow missed the mark about what they wanted to achieve. It was a novel idea to show something about Danny from before the pilot. The prelude of where he was in his life, just before the story began – I guess to endear him to us. But we already knew where he was in his life, because the pilot was so good at explaining it to us back then.

We knew and liked the fact that Danny was a man dedicated to his daughter and who moved to a place where he did not want to be, just to be near her – and as he said to Steve in the pilot “To keep the place, where she lives, safe”.

Up until this episode, I felt that Steve appointed a competent detective to his team when he asked Danny to join him. I thought that Danny was chosen to investigate John’s murder, because the Captain at that stage thought he was the best person to handle it. Was I that wrong? For me it feels like they finally ‘killed’ Danny’s character as a good cop who was actually respected at the time.

For those of you who have come to know me and know how much I adore Alex’s talent, what I am about to say further in this post, might come as a big surprise….. I would rather not have had Alex/Steve in this episode. It took away from what was supposed to be Danny’s moment.

I did not want to feel as if Danny was a child. I did not want to feel Danny can’t look after himself and that Steve needs to save him all the time. I did not want to feel Danny was not good at his job, now and from before he joined the task force. I did not want to feel that Danny is failing as a father and that even there with the kids, Steve had to step in and save the day. And then on top of that needed to lie about Danny’s competence to Charlie. ….. But now I do.

And on top of that I did not enjoy Alex’s being Steve in this episode. It was as if he was “acting” and not just being Steve as he normally do so well. He was playing a part. I do not really know what kind of different takes there were for these scenes to be chosen from, but I feel that those chosen were really not Alex’s best work ever. I am sure during a day of shooting, they sometimes get things right and then they get things wrong. Who knows, maybe there was just not any better takes to choose from?

(What was that?)

There is an element of overacting from Alex in the scenes with Scott, lately.  Mostly in the first part of the season, which I did not write Steve stories about. It is as if Alex is trying too hard to be funny in the Steve and Danny supposedly ‘funny’ scenes. It is as if he is trying to make a joke out of it. Trying to be funny …… For me the “McDanno” scenes have over the years moved from fun riffing of each other, to bickering like two grumpy old men, to acting like toddlers fighting over toys during this season. It seems a bit backwards to me …… no growth.

And about the characters – I found the scenes with Danny condescending from Steve. He is treating Danny like a child. And Danny acting like a child does not help either …… The dialogue feels forced and unnatural. And some of the subtle sexual innuendo thrown in there, is becoming really creepy by now.

And then the final scene with Charlie was kind of weird at times because it felt forced. And at times the look on Steve/Alex face looked creepy and strange to me.

I do not know if it was the lighting or the camera angles – but it looked weird.

He did not feel natural to me – again with the trying too hard I guess. I agree, it is a great “Awww” moment and the scene was sweet. We all know Alex is great with kids, and we have seen it in the way he interacted with children over the years. But I felt that the scene was clearly set up to appease the people who continuously keep begging the producers for some “sweet moments”  with Steve interacting with Danno’s kids.

And it felt weird because they were looking at seemingly nothing in front of them?

And just a comment about yesterday’s post – it looks like people do not understand the difference between the sentence “And there were a few moments with uncle McG that I found creepy” and finding a whole scene creepy

Of course there are a lot of the stupid questions that I normally have about what happened in the episode, but I do not even want to waste my time to have fun with this episode (I scared the Koala Smartass away on this one) ….. You know, things like Danny not recognising the real nurse, after he just saw her talking on the news clip that he watched. She’s got a very distinctive look. HPD not being able to get there faster than Steve – REALLY? etc …..

Having said all that – I am still hoping and maybe against better judgement, also looking forward to two great episodes to end this season …….

And that was Steve’s  story for:

The Steve McGarrett Story – No # 165 (Epi 7:22)

We are using the name The Steve McGarrett Story for these commentaries on the episodes, because these are not actually reviews. There are many other people who write real reviews on the Hawaii Five-0 episodes and many points of views to be followed if people are interested. These are just our way of having some fun with it and as always to just enjoy Alex doing his thing as Steve.

We also call them the Steve McGarrett Story because our site is about Alex, and therefore we make it about his character in the show. But unfortunately even though he is supposed to be the  main character, he does not get more or larger personal stories than any of the other characters. Maybe even less of a personal story than some of the part-time characters.

But I guess the whole show should actually be seen as his personal story, because it is his task force and his Ohana, and I should not really complain too much. Everything happening to them, is his story.

But why am I writing all this now? It is because there is so much potential to make this character so much deeper, but it is hardly done. And most of the time there is not much for me to report on about Steve, other than to have a closer look at some weird questions that come up while watching it.

  • My thoughts about Steve’s story for this episode ……..

Most of us would not know much about the day-to-day accomplishments of our grandfathers, especially because young people do not always think that those stories are important. Only when we grow older and we want to remember them, then we sometimes wonder about who they were, where they have been and what they have accomplished. We know however that Steve feels a special bond with his grandfather. Not only because he is his namesake, but also because he was a Navy man and he died in Hawaii where Steve was born and grew up.

He did not know his grandfather personally and neither did his late father John, because he died three months before John was born. Both of them had to gain knowledge of him from whatever they heard from others, like hearing this story of bravery from war veteran Lt Michael Murphy.

To be honest, I was disappointed that there was no direct interaction with Steve and any of these war veterans that actually knew his grandfather. First hand knowledge and insight is so much more than just hearing how brave he was from an old interview. I know most of you will say that my view about it is greedy and that the sentiments were all there and should be enough ….. but I would have liked just a bit more.

Watching the rest of the episode and its two storylines ….. here are some of my observations and questions.

  • Adam must have really GREAT eyesight. Seeing such a small bone, from a distance, on the other side of a pile of dirt, amongst some rocks.

Koala Smartass: Maybe Kono is feeding him lots of carrots on those sandwiches she makes him every day. (Not that I have ever really seen or eaten carrots on a sandwich)

:huhuani:

  • It sounds like Adam and Kono do not share a lot of stuff at home. I would guess something like Jerry getting a badge, would be something she might have mentioned to Adam when it happened – you know since Adam and Jerry had more contact in the past than what he had with most of the other members of the team.

Koala Smartass: Look at them. They most probably can’t keep their hands of each other and have ”better” things to do all night long, than to talk about their friends and co-workers and Jerry in particular  – she is a ‘Smokeshow’ after all and they have a LOT of catching up to do.

:distratto:

  • The guy (Rider) shoots at least 4 HPD guys, but Danny informs who knows who, who needs to know, that there are 2 down?

Koala Smartass: So …?

  • I know, I know, this is nitpicking, but it is funny to see how the gun that lands on Steve’s chest when Rider shoots him, miraculously is on the ground when he needs to get up quickly and give him the kill shot.

Koala Smartass: You said it  …. nitpicking in an episode with some great action and stunts.

  • Steve goes in pursuit of a very dangerous suspect, but the team comes along strolling, looking for him casually?

Koala Smartass: It was in the script.

  • And suddenly after all that action and fleeing from the exploding bomb, Kono now has got some new information about the guy and his mates? Where did she get the time to now suddenly get all that?

Koala Smartass:

  • Steve got shot, but luckily was protected by his kevlar vest. However it looks like the bullet also came with a big curve, because it miraculously hit him behind one of the armour casings on his vest where he now pulls it from? And realistically if you look where he is holding his gun when he got shot, that bullet should also have travelled straight through his arm to get there on his vest.

Koala Smartass:

  • So Adam drives around at night, for two nights in a row, and Kono does not ask where? Or maybe she did ask and he just lied. No wonder he did not know about Jerry. They obviously both have their own lives.

Koala Smartass: Their relationship has been riddled with so many lies over the years, what is your point?

Confused smiley 83

  • I do not understand why the widow’s husband was not listed as part of Lee’s crew working in Afghanistan. And also not mentioned as to what happened to him there during their missions.

Koala Smartass: They had to give Danny something to do ….. visit the widow. (And later on mediate with the bank on her behalf)

  • I find it interesting/disturbing that Lee does not even mention the fact that Steve killed his friend (Rider) the previous day. I find it kind of cold, that it seems that loosing his friend did not even bother him that much.

Koala Smartass: Maybe because he is just a murdering thug, or maybe because the writers did not even consider it as an issue that he would feel anything …… or maybe he was just playing it cool. Remember, acknowledging that he cared about Rider, would kind of proof his guilt.

  • Interesting that it is the second episode in a row where Kamekona was not in the episode, while he could actually be – Jerry and Adam meet at the shrimp truck twice, yet no Kamekona in sight. I find it odd?

Koala Smartass: Maybe it was his day(s) off?

  • The widow talks about 3 uncles for her child? Why not 4? There were 4 guys in the crew. I think the writers forgot that.

Koala Smartass: One of those weird missing pieces, or odd dialogue mishaps that bothers only you, I am sure!

  • An observation about timeline in the episode…..

The timeline for Adam’s story:

Day 1: He finds the bone. Asks Jerry for help.

Night 1: He looks for more bones and finds nothing.

Day 2: He gets fired. After talking to Jerry again and gaining knowledge about the previous owner and a missing wife, he sets a trap for the guy.

Night 2: He stakes out and follows the suspect to the site. He also saw him place a shovel from the trunk of his car before he left home.

Day 3: He reports to Kono and the team only after their big gunfight (not first thing in the morning or over breakfast that morning). Why wait until the murderer can get away with evidence before he tells Kono?

Why am I telling you all this? Well if you look closely the team members are all still wearing the clothes that they wore the second day of their storyline – so their case only spanned over 2 days. Unless they all sat around in the office again that whole night, or if they just constantly walk around with the same clothes every day. Although it is Adam’s 3rd day in his story, when he arrives, they are all dressed in the same clothes as the day before. Specifically Jerry who actually came in contact with Adam on the second day is now still wearing the clothes from that day.

And here lies one of my big problem with these split storylines during one episode. The timelines do not always match. And the other problem I have, why give a part-time character like Adam this separate storyline of playing detective all on his own, yet they do not spare the time to make something more of grandpa McGarrett’s story and therefore give us more of Steve’s story?

Koala Smartass:

I guess we have to be grateful that after all this time, we are once again reminded that Steve is a soldier. Once again treated with him in uniform. But really all that trouble to get him to shave and dress up, and after 65 episodes  we see him in uniform again, but we only get a headshot of him in that uniform? REALLY?

With my next comment, I know many will say, “What are you talking about?“, but I feel they really just go a bit over the top to show how badass and how much of a superhero Steve is. They make it look like he can do it all on his own? I know he is our hero and I like it when they show his skills and competence, but really he is still human after all.

My main gripe is that they go to extremes. The one day you wonder where he got his training from, when they make him do stupid stuff, and the next day he can just do it all on his own and take it all and even recover from it without many physical and apparently no emotional scars.

I guess you  might think I am therefore asking for him to be mediocre. No, not at all. For me it means, just don’t write him as incompetent on one day whenever the story needs it, just to make him superhuman the next time to show how great he is ….. (if that make any sense at all)

Having said all that, I actually regard this episode as one of the better ones for this season. Lots of action and human drama provided us with lots of entertainment to enjoy. And of course once again during this whole episode Alex displayed his versatility as an actor. Playing all the finer nuances of what is happening with his character throughout the episode so masterfully. Compassion when needed, leadership when asked, playing it cool when he does not want to alarm his team, etc.

His reaction after his fight to the death with Lee, is spot on. Not only the relief of being the survivor, but also the horror of the moment, can be seen on his face. He gives Steve so much depth. But unfortunately he makes it look so easy and hardly ever gets a mention for it by those who I feel should acknowledge him for it. He just IS Steve McGarrett ……

And that was Steve’s  story for:

The Steve McGarrett Story – No # 164 (Epi 7:21)

I was pretty much underwhelmed by this episode. Why? Too much Chicago instead of Hawaii Ohana as advertised. Too much “fan fiction”, and too little of our sane and intelligent Navy SEAL, as a competent leader operating with his team.

The team in trouble is a big issue. I thought this was where we would get all the answers about the bomb that was supposed to kill them all a few episodes back. I also knew Jerry was going to get a badge because of all the spoilers we got, but I thought we would see some serious heroism from him on saving the team in order for him to get it ……..

Instead of what I thought it would be, I got a different feeling from the episode.

Here is my take on it.

Episode Title:  “Post Liver Transplant Threesome in the Doctor’s Office”

Plot synopsis: Playing doctor-doctor in an actual doctor’s office. An intro to another p0rn movie. Chapter 2 after the Valentines’ day balcony scene scenario. (Moving on from some couples-p0rn to some gay-p0rn)

COTW: – The mystery of “The Moving Scar” ……?

Reward at the end: A ‘Lucky Packet Police Badges‘ for doing something most 8 year olds would have done – call the real cops when you have a crisis, or call them when your friends are missing and in grave danger.

The team

  • The Doctors Office: Is anybody seriously writing this stuff for these “fun” scenes? Sounds like something thought up while partying too hard. Why in this episode? Why now? Why such a ridiculous scenario? And the dialogue, are they once again in the actual show, just randomly using the parts where the actors are ad-libbing and goofing around for fun in an embarrassing shirtless scene? It feels like part of the show has become the gag reel that is supposed to be on the DVD later this year, but found its way into the actual show. Maybe the actors, the writers, or the editing staff are reading too much of all the slashporn, written about themself and the show. Or are the writers really going out of their way to accommodate the fantasies of the slash shipper fans? Have they done their homework and are playing along nicely to keep their “most loyal fans” engaged? Or is the producer even just satisfying his own fantasies about what he actually want these characters to be? I guess if you “entertain” yourself to sleep every night while reading McDanno slash fiction, then this is just your cup of tea. Dear writers/producers, stop pussyfooting around with these suggestions in so many scenes – make them canon! Go for it! Be brave!

Koala Smartass: What are you saying? Are you changing ships now? Are you becoming a true fan? Leaving McKono for McDanno? #IfYouCan’tBeatThemJoinThem #BendingOverAndPokeInDelicatePlaces #SERIOUSLY?

  • The irony of the opening scene of Steve and Danny in the Doctors office, is some of the “best” comedy I’ve seen in a long time. With Danny’s dialogue they are seriously poking fun at how the show botched up the reality and seriousness of organ donation and the life changes that inevitably become part of such a transplant patient. You are 100% correct Danny. Steve has been doing all that idiotic stuff, but not only that ….. in reality it is actually impossible that he could have done all that stuff so soon after the transplant. And Steve would have been back in hospital by now, if this was real life and not fiction. From there my comment – Comedy at its best.

Koala Smartass: Glad you got that off you chest. Can we move on now?

  • How is Steve’s post-op recovering going slow, but the liver is doing fine? What about it is slow? He runs around, drinks bear, looks healthy and gorgeous etc. What is slow about that?

Koala Smartass: So you are a medical expert now?

BTW, if you thought Danny had no right to be there in at the doctor, think again – he was just there checking up on his own liver. You know when you donate you have rights  ……

Sad smiley 141

  • The Chicago Story: I like the idea of Grover’s storyline in Chicago and I think Chi is doing a great job with these very emotional scenes, but I do not like that it is detached from the team. Too far away from his Ohana. Away from his physical and emotional support. This whole storyline was too far removed from Hawaii and the Ohana to interest me as part of this show. Same sentiments could have been so much more engaging for me if shared with Steve and the team.

Koala Smartass: *cry*

  • This must be a first. Perfect excuse to have Kamekona in an episode, and he is not used? Would have loved to see how Steve had to bribe him to lend them his helicopter for the trip.

Koala Smartass: Then there would have been less time for Grover’s righteous talks. (You know he was so righteous that his own actions of torture and vandalism were justified. #NOT )

  • I still do not really understand Steve McGarrett’s training as a SEAL and the fact that he just walks openly in the woods and does not stay on the lookout whenever he stumbles upon something, like for instance, bodies hanging on trees? And not to mention going on such a dangerous mission, without a real safety net of back-up, regardless of not trusting HPD.

Koala Smartass: You are forgetting that the Five-0 team does not consist of fellow trained SEAL’s. Therefor they cannot be expected to be that good. 😕

  • Decomposed bodies dropped to the ground from that height and staying intact ? And was it really that intimidation for them to drag those corpses?

Koala Smartass: Did props staff make the body dummy’s too strong for your liking? You silly – they covered their tracks by sweeping the ground with the corpses.

  • At what stage did Steve send the pictures to Noelani  – he was still busy taking them when they got captured?

Koala Smartass: Nitpicking the finer details again dear?

  • Kono: “Guys it looks like they are almost finished.” – But the camp still looks pretty full and stocked up to me. Lots of stuff in tents? Even the beds are still made up.

Koala Smartass: Don’t mess with the dialogue and the reality of what is shown again. This is Five-0 reality.

  • At what stage did Steve get the name of the new leader?

Koala Smartass: I am sure that at night Steve memorizes all the names of baddies in all the gangs in Hawaii. He can ID them all on first sight.

  • Jerry: “Five-0 went to Lanai yesterday” – Did he really only call Duke the next day? What did he do the whole day and night while they were out of reach? Pick his nose? Do they really want us to believe that the team was locked up there overnight and that Jerry did nothing to help them that whole time? And got a badge for it?

Koala Smartass: It was written in the script …… (I vote for Noelani to get a badge next. She is the team doctor already in any case)

  • Steve: “You came after us. And you came after our families” What? Did I miss something? When did Michelle come after them and their families? I thought they just stumbled upon her operation?

Koala Smartass: Don’t worry. You will get that one explained, on the deleted scenes on the DVD. Or maybe we will get it like what happened to the Dr Gray “ending”, which was apparently mentioned  on MacGyver. Maybe Shioma’s threat to them was mentioned on Chicago PD? (Talking about world’s best producer – that show has got one serious contender for that one)

  • Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Jerry’s character and I think he is a good addition to the cast by being something else than a kick-ass police officer. But I do not really understand what exactly he did during this operation that warranted him getting a badge. In the past he has done some real detective work – this time he called  Duke, after Noelani told him to ….. and ….. ?

Koala Smartass: I guess it was time to do it. Come hell or high water, it needed to be done now. (Maybe one of the other members is leaving the team?)

  • I guess once again another law enforcement group is corrupt to the core, while Five-0 are the saints – Chicago PD would much rather protect one of their own than embrace the truth? BTW, I would have liked to know what the verdict was in the case against Clay. How many years he got … If any? I Guess we might hear that detail on some other show some day as well.

Koala Smartass: Ah-ha. Now you are getting with the program.

And that was Steve’s  story for:

PS: I nearly forgot to mention the COTW (The Moving Scar). Some sideways insult was thrown at us on twitter this week for apparently failing in our “expertise(which we have actually never claimed) on Alex. Dear person’s who still doubt our research without investigation stuff yourself. If you still wonder if the collar-bone scar is actually a real Alex one or a Steve scar – A simple look at the movement of the scar from episode to episode, shows you clearly that it is make-up. (Real scars tend to stay in one spot and not show up in different places) And see … the scar disappears when Alex is just Alex! Conclusion: It is not real.

  • Here are just a few of the hundreds of  comparisons I could have used with Steve in the latest episode, and Steve and the real Alex over the years …….

And BTW, thank you for forcing me to once again study some shirtless pictures of this gorgeous man. ……. it is really hard to do. I actually have had a draft for a new post about it for a long time and it is just not getting done. Mainly because I get distracted by all the pretty.

The Steve McGarrett Story – No # 163 (Epi 7:20)

Just a normal run of the mill entertaining Hawaii Five-0 episode. I enjoyed it and felt well entertained. It is always good to just sit back and relax and enjoy some mindless fun while watching Alex do his thing as Steve McGarrett …..

All the ingredients once again there for a good episode ……. But beware if you let one brain cell work too much. You might just experience some real WTF moments.

It still makes me wonder about the missing links of continuity and logic in the show. And I am not talking storylines in the whole series here. I mean continuity and logic in this one episode …… Is it the writing, the director, the actors ad-libbing too much, the stunt crew doing weird stuff or the editing messing it up at the end? Or is this just the “way” of the show. Just the laid back ‘Island style‘ of doing things without too much thought or logic?

Here are my random questions ……

I am not even going to mention that the opening scene of the kidnapper with the girlfriend being kidnapped actually only happened later in the episode, and that it was shown out of sequence without any explanation. Or ask why she could not remove the hood with her hands tied so close to her face. Or why she could not make noises by kicking in order for people to hear her. She showed so much fight when they grabbed her – why did she become so meek and mild? Not even going to wonder why the guy was now alone with her when he needed to shop, while his mate was doing …. what?

Or that it is completely silly to believe that a sharpshooter can dare to make a shot from a shaking unstable helicopter with a victim so close to the perp. Or that Steve will just duck a bit when bullets start flying around him and Kono (remember the last time he was flying and being shot at he nearly died ) ….. oops, I guess I did say all that out loud. But let’s move on to the ‘really serious’ questions.

  • At what time do schools close for the day in Hawaii? Why am I asking it? Because  most of the activities in this whole episode happen after Charlie was picked up from school … Activities which include Steve switching clothes a few times between the tan shirt and the blue T for under the tac gear. And as usual with we the viewers not having the joy of witnessing it all …..

Koala Smartass: Oh dear – this again. How long have you been watching the show? The amount of stuff they pack into a day (or even half a day) is astounding. Time moves at a slow pace of “Island style” there. And why would we want to see something as mundane as STEVE changing clothes? #sarcasm

https://i0.wp.com/i.imgur.com/KLFy0MW.gif

  • And why and at what age do kids go to school in America where they wear formal uniforms. Charlie was born in the beginning of 2012. He is now only 5. Isn’t it a bit harsh to have him already attend such a formal school?

Koala Smartass:  Seems that where you live you allow kids to be kids for far too long?

https://i0.wp.com/smileys.smilchat.net/smiley/children/school/prof.gif

  • Not often that we get an episode without a dead body to begin with.

Koala Smartass: I gather that is just an observation and not one of your silly complaints?

  • Once again as with Sang Min the other day – what did they talk about with Harry while waiting for Noelani to get there to patch him up? I like how they use her character with these ‘house calls‘. Love her being included in the cast (Not only is she a strong intelligent female character, but she is also Hawaiian and a beautiful ‘normal’ woman at that.) But the way they do it by waiting till she has done the job before they start discussing the case, just does not make sense to me?

Koala Smartass: Time stands still while the cameras are not rolling? Or maybe she was in the building with her medical case when they called her in?

*dontknow*

  • Harry about his client: “Older man, younger broad”? I must be honest the wife looked older than the husband to me. But in fact in real life the actress is 1 year younger than the actor. (older man, younger broad – yeh right)

Koala Smartass: Old school PI talk. It would have sounded so “boring” if he just said that the man had suspicion that the wife was a cheating old hag – oops.

  • Why is Steve only introducing Kono after she already tapping the guys phones? Kind of rude to have her play with his stuff even before meeting him?

Koala Smartass:

  • Harry using the same nicknames (‘muscles’ and ‘hairdo’) for Danny as Tony Archer in season 2? Really all the writers can come up with …….?

Koala Smartass: My guess is that it is actual nicknames that James Caan have for his son in real life, so his old time friends just keep on using it. Not the writer’s fault then?

  • So the wife was having lunch with a another woman and they have a heated argument. Yet no follow-up from Harry about that? It could have just as well been a lover’s quarrel. Maybe the wife was cheating on the husband with another woman? What happened to following all leads? Never crossed Harry’s mind to ask?

Koala Smartass: Have you been reading too much slash fiction again? Suspecting everybody of switching ‘sides’ easily & randomly?

  • Why is Steve asking Danny why he is pouting? I watched the scene a few times, but did not see any pouting. The camera is actually on Danny the whole time … no pouting.

Koala Smartass: Use your imagination. Or maybe Steve was just using figure of speech.

  • Harry: “I gave my name to 3 different women”. A man talking like that, no wonder none of his marriages lasted. If marriage is all just about giving his ‘name’ to the broad …..

Koala Smartass: Harry is ‘old school‘. Of course it is okay for him to think and talk that why.

  • I do not understand that Danny being sad/worried about Rachel’s divorce means to Harry that they might get back together again? Why be sad or worried if you could be reconciled?

Koala Smartass: Don’t confuse everybody with your logic.

  • Therapy worked for us? Really Steve? Worked? No comparison between needing therapy for some bickering between work partners about who is driving whose car at what speed, and actual marital problems where commitments were made and kids are involved.

Koala Smartass: We are all watching a different show I guess.

  • Where I come from if people don’t answer the door nearly immediately, you do not wait around ringing the doorbell untill they have finished: 1) drying off their wet bodies, 2) got dressed,  3) do their make-up, 4) and even take the time to put in earrings and 5) slip on some shoes etc. You kind of presume that they are not at home, or I suspect if you are a perp, you would have barged in long before then ….. Why only barge through the door as soon as, after all that I have mentioned above that she must have done, and when she at long last walks to the door?

Koala Smartass: I was just wondering why the writers or the director felt that she needed a shower in the middle of the afternoon?

  • One thing I do not really understand – if the wife knew about the girlfriend, why did she not ask for a divorce? Was the prenup only protecting him against her infidelity and not the other way around?

Koala Smartass: He had the money you silly cow.

  • They are working on a serious case of kidnapping, yet Danny has got time to talk to Stan and even call Steve away from the case for some discussion.

Koala Smartass: Never let an urgent case get in the way of some Williams family drama.

  • Everybody, Steve included, seemed to forget that Danny and Rachel got back together in bed when Danny was seeking some comfort after his brother fled the Feds. Rachel was all alone because Stan was always away on business, and they shared a family moment with Matt. Things just sometimes happen when you see the person you love in pain … and the sometimes they just escalate without thought of consequences.

Koala Smartass: History rewritten. Nothing unusual in the land of Five-0. What happened with Danny and Rachel might even be the most realistic real life thing in regards to relationships in the whole show.

(Btw, I saw some comments that complain about a “gossiping” Steve that was out of character. But it was Danny who brought up Charlie in front of Harry and got him to ask the question, which Steve just tried to explain in short. #justsaying )

  • So you know that perps have got hostages –  you therefore storm the house with the whole of HPD and SWAT with all sirens wailing. NO sneaking up and surprising them?

Koala Smartass: It is the Five-0 way I guess.

  • Steve: “We’re going to breathe together” Me: ……. “SIGH”

Koala Smartass: Perv!

  • Danny orders the older and bigger member (Grover) of the team to take the steps with him, while Chin takes the elevator? No wonder he ends up following the perp alone. Not real clever thinking there.

Koala Smartass: That scene at the chute was shot on Chi’s day off – don’t mess with the schedules.

  • I was just wondering how the two guys could hear each other on the phone, while a helicopter was hovering over them? Because the helicopter had to be close by for Steve and Kono to see all that detail with the naked eye. And why did the perp not demand that the helicopter should leave?

Koala Smartass: You are messing with the action stuff of this show again. Rather go and clean your kitchen and leave the man stuff for the boys to worry about.

  • When you see a helicopter outside you rather shoot at them and stay in front of the window? Really? What happened to maybe closing the curtains or just stepping inside and taking cover in the room? Why insist on standing in front of the open door?

Koala Smartass: Who ever said baddies are clever?

Confused smiley 83

  • How did Chin know where the suspect was running to or where Danny was at the time? He was in a closed elevator when the guy ran passed it and he could have gone back?

Koala Smartass: It was in the script ……

  • Why would a greedy wife leave her expensive rings at home when she leaves her husband? After all $1 000 000 ransom is not “that” much when you need to start all over again somewhere with an “ex”-con new boyfriend.

Koala Smartass: I guess she is as dumb as her boyfriend?

Sad smiley 141

The Steve McGarrett Story – No # 162 (Epi 7:19)

All in all this has been one of the most engaging episodes for Season 7. My hopes for some good episodes to finish off the season were better served by this one that last week. Of course I loved that Steve and Kono spend so much time together during this episode. They are great together.

The episode was a good display of different women (good & bad) in society. The young and innocent being cute, strong ones looking out for and protecting the weak, the bad ones exploiting the weak. Those fighting for and rescuing the oppressed and the exploited. And the scarred ones fighting back to restore their lives.

Of course me liking the episode and the theme of it, did not mean there were not some serious facepalm moments. Here are a few thoughts ….

  • I don’t understand why the sex trafficker (Emilio) would care to take Moani to the ER. Why take such a risk and then just run away before getting any help? What did he expect to find there? A red carpet reception? The writers idea of using, it did not make sense to me.

Koala Smartass: You are messing with the logic of the story again. Just take it as it is.

  • Not a fan of crossover episodes of two different show. Mainly because I do not live in America and do not see these shows on the same time slots as they are seen over there.

Koala Smartass: No harm done I guess. If you did not see it, you did not miss anything. You watch for Steve (Alex) in any case and he was not part of it.

  • Well at least somebody remembered and brought Steve cookies on his birthday – although he had to buy them.

Koala Smartass: You know the birthdays and stuff only  mean something to the fans – well at least some of the wacky fans like you.

  • Why a split episode when dealing with such serious matters as sex trafficking and drugs? And then rushing through the second case.

Koala Smartass: Lalallalalallalal

*dontknow*

  • It must be really dangerous to just drive around in Hawaii. Road rage is dangerous! Utterly preposterous for Kono to vent against an innocent person in traffic. She was in the wrong and it is she as an officer of the law, who is supposed to serve and protect others rather than damage? That kind of “heroism” being applauded and condoned  is exactly what is wrong with society lately. If you get upset, you can just violate the rights of others – it’s okay and normal? #NO!

Koala Smartass:

  • Kono hitting the teacher before he even had time to say anything? Really? Stooping to a level of brutality is really childish. At least give him a change to be an asshole first.

Koala Smartass: But he deserved it, didn’t he? Men like him are actually the real problem. The laws of supply and demand. If there is no demand, the sex trafficking business would not be so lucrative.

  • Why is Steve shooting the number plate of the SUV while it is backing up? Shoot the tyres, shoot at the window – be productive.

Koala Smartass: How long have you been watching the show? By now you should know, that it is how it is done in the land of Five-o.

:distratto:

  • I fail to get the connection between Kono and Moani, the girl she brought to the sanctuary. Her connection was with the OTHER girl, Kelsey. (She was also a better actress, portraying the pain.) And why was only the one girl taken to the sanctuary? Although very moving, the story kind of lost me there because it did not feel organic with her taking the “wrong” girl in my opinion. And without her parents?

Koala Smartass: I am sure you are the only one complaining about this.

  • And added to that, she easily hugged Kono. NO sign of the broken ribs and injuries Emilio took her to the hospital for.

Koala Smartass: Since when is it strange that injuries sustained during an episode, still exist by the end of the episode? At least it was 3 days later. Normally they heal within a few minutes.

As you can see, there was not much to complain about in the episode, and the Koala is very happy about that. Hopefully that is a good sign for the rest of the season …… I just hope that somewhere along the line we will also at least get some personal story of Steve again. And not just something from his family’s past, but also something for his future and happiness! (Maybe he can chase Adam away, and he and Kono can live happily ever after? )
