Bumped into the cast of #H50

We featured this story in one of our weekly wrap post a few years back, but it is so cute and we thought it deserves a post on its own.

Matt Reid: They were brilliant with us, chatting away. Jack was well chuffed 🌊🌊🌊🌊😄😄😄😄

Matt Reid: Alex, the main guy was brilliant with Jack. Really cool guy. Liked the Scottish thing and the fact we had travelled so far and have done it many times. He was impressed ! 😎😎

#H50 Surfboards

Hawaii Five-0 surfboards

By Diane Ako

For Star Advertiser

3 January  2011

When Hawaii’s top cops aren’t fighting crime, what might they be doing? Perhaps in the waves, riding a new Pinder-shaped board. I figured this out in December when I went to pick up a new board for  myself from Todd Pinder, a Honolulu surfboard shaper.

I’m not really sure why I bothered to get a new board since my old one is dusty and lonely in the garage. I work all day, and when I’m not working, I am looking after my kid. But hope springs eternal, so to complement the longboard I own, I wanted a shorter 7’6″ hybrid. One day, right? Pinder was nice enough to color it blue so that my husband can use it, too.

When I went to pick it up at his King Street shop, he mentioned he just sold a board to Alex O’Loughlin, who plays Commander Steve McGarrett on Hawaii Five-O. “He bought a green 9’6″ classic nose rider that was sitting in the front window,”Pinder said. This is the board Dreamy O’Loughlin owns, photographed right after Pinder shaped it.

Scott Caan, or Danno of Hawaii Five-O, is a long-time surfer who ordered a custom 80’s style thruster. It’s 5’8″ and meant for shredding.

“They are the nicest guys. Not pretentious. They came in my store one day with another friend and I was so surprised to recognize them,” laughs Pinder.

Now I have more incentive to get out on the waves!

pinderhi Both Scotty and Alex are pretty down to earth guys! Guess surfing keeps you grounded 😉

Always great to make the connect of a story from different sources of those who were there at the time.

And Thank You to my two internet search wizards for helping me connect the dots on many stories and pictures!

They Say … #AlexOLoughlin was the nicest by far!!

Have been looking into the stories behind many of the old Alex O’Loughlin pictures which we saved over the years. There are so many old and new fan encounter stories that we never posted here before.
Over the course of the next few months we will be featuring some of them …..
  • Here is one from way back in 2012
Joan Desmarais Hinkle 5 August 2012The highlight of my trip!!!! — at Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.
Joan Desmarais Hinkle 6 August 2012 Ok, so I had to share him after my solo pic!! Saw the rest of the cast but he was by far the nicest!!
The film crew was absolutely wonderful to all of us. We hung out with them for a few hours, watched them film episode 2, gave us drinks and just had a blast!! — with Nick Hinkle and Billy Herten at Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.
If you have had your own encounter with Alex, even if it was long ago, and would like to share it with others, you are welcome to let us know.
We have done a few of the stories in the past, some just brief encounters and others with more detail over.
Many of the stories featured in other places, get lost because sites are closing down and and pages are deleted.
For easier access, we have created a page with links to the stories that we have posted over the years:

Fans Meeting Alex

We are forever grateful to those who are willing to share their encounters with Alex online.
You are part of the few lucky ones who got the chance to experience Alex in person.
By sharing your stories, we all get a glimpse of who he is and share in your fun.

They Say …… Thank you for your time #AlexOLoughlin

A beautiful fan story posted in October on Twitter.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much x @HawaiiFive0CBS @PLenkov

I just wanted to thank this amazing guy for stopping to have this picture taken with myself and my daughter. He has no idea what it meant us both of us.

We lost our other daughter a few years back and the only thing that would make me smile, even just for an hour, was H50.

We had been to Honolulu twice before and never come close to seeing you  guys film. That Tuesday we got up at 5 am and headed down to the lagoon, still not knowing it was the show being filmed. When we saw the shrimp truck it was amazing.

We sat there for 6 hours watching take after take. Alex was up for the final scene but they had to call it off and I was just so excited to have seen him in the distance although daughter, who had only found out that morning, was sad because she had written three letters asking if for my 40th (which we were there celebrating) could meet him … not fully understanding that fan mail can’t always be read.

My husband knew about the letters and had managed to get Alex’s attention. He was so incredibly generous with his time. She was hyperventilating and I was overwhelmed but his beautiful nature had him calming us both down and making us laugh. She has not stopped talking about the encounter since.

You absolutely made our holiday, year and everything else. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Was so lucky to meet this guy in September. He was charming, funny and so kind to my 14 yo daughter, who was beside herself having met him. Must admit my heart raced too. Red heart#AlexOLoughlin #H50
