(2011) #H50 honored at Hawaii State Capitol – including #AlexOLoughlin

With this post we are taking you back 7 years …..

On 31 March 2011 just before the wrap up of the first season of Hawaii Five-0, the lawmakers of Hawaii  honoured members of the show at the Hawaiian State Capitol. Those who were honoured included the two actors Alex O’Loughlin and  Daniel Dae Kim.

Together with the people from Hawaii Five-0 there was also someone else that was honored that day. Patrick Gartside was recognised for his selflessness in donating bone marrow cells and a kidney to others.

Alex O’Loughlin Congratulates Carol Barbee on her Awards in 2010

My Thoughts:

It is probably not a good idea to try and make a prime time TV show while staying with realism and authenticity. It seems that people do not want to be confronted with reality when they seek out entertainment.

I have seen so many comments over the years of people saying that Three Rivers is a morbid story, because somebody needs to die to save another person’s life.

I find that view amusing, because it looks like people forget that in nearly every episode on a show like Hawaii Five-0, somebody and sometimes more than one have to die for the team to have a case for that week. In most cases they solve the crime and prevent the perpetrators from continuing with their crimes and killing people. Most of the time in the process the team kill more people and even colleagues in police also die a lot in the show. Why don’t people see that as even more morbid, than a show like Three Rivers where people at least get a direct second chance on life every time?

I am only playing devil’s advocate here, and hopefully inspire people to watch a show like Three Rivers with different eyes. Although they could have done some of it differently, for me it was both entertainment and education in one. I think Alex should always be proud of what he did with this show, even if it was so short-lived.

Although the show was cut prematurely, they at least got recognition from the organizations whose causes they highlighted ……

Three Rivers Producer Carol Barbee Accepts Crystal Heart at the Donate Life Hollywood Inspire Awards Dinner.

Announcer: Good evening and welcome to the Donate Life Hollywood Inspire Awards Dinner, and the culmination of the Donate Life Film Festival.

Carol Barbee: We are all just holding each other up. We’re all just here. We can all save each other’s lives. And other people can save our lives. And you never know which side of that equation you’re going to be on. And I found that fascinating, when I started to look into organ donation. And just beautiful sort of coming together of three different points of view, the doctors. the donors and the recipients. And they all need each other. And you never know which side of that equation you’re going to be on.

Dr Gonzo Gonzales-Stawinski: Tonight Carol is not only being given one award, she’s actually being given two awards. The Donate Life Inspire Award and the prestigious Crystal Heart Award. This national award highlights broadcast media representative for their outstanding efforts to accurately depict the science and reality of organ, eye and tissue procurement and transplantation to the public. This year Three Rivers has done it better than anyone.

Alex: Carol, congratulations on everything. I love you so much. It’s so wonderful working with you. We’re about to work together again. And all the hard work and dedication, and passion and honesty and beauty you put into the show called Three Rivers, that I was so proud to be a part of. You know, it’s  paid off. And congratulations! I love you.

Carol Barbee acceptance speech: The day they told us they were taking us of the air, I got an e-mail from a procurement person. She said, “I just wanted you to know that this person sent this e-mail to say that her daughter got a heart last night, because her donor watched your show last week.” And I said, “You know what, we’re good. We’re good”. So thank you. And it was a privilege to tell the stories. And thank you.

Carol Barbee: Hello everybody. This is Carol Barbee, the executive producer and creator of the CBS drama, Three Rivers. I’m here at the Donate Life Hollywood Inspire Awards Dinner. And I was just given this amazing award, the Crystal Heart Award from AOPO. And I want to just thank the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations, as well as Donate Life America for this amazing honour, I understand that it was sponsored by MTF.

And I just wanted to say to all of you, it’s such a privilege to tell these stories. And I thank you for all of your support. Thank you for this honour. Being involved in this show certainly changed my life and my understanding and my commitment to organ donation. And if we could have helped to make that change in other people, the whole thing is really really worth it. So thank you for this honour. I’m going to treasure it. Thank you.

2010 kicked off what is soon to be an annual occurrence:

My Life, Made Possible by Pop Culture’s Hottie Awards. In looking at categories such as daytime television, primetime television, music, and sports, I brought to you weekly top ten lists of who I (and my readers) thought were the best in the biz. But those were all full of all-time honorees. When considering who was specifically hot this year, the list nearly tripled in size, and needless to say, quite a few that I fought for had to be left off the list. Consider them timeless honorable mentions 🙂

The Top Ten Hotties of 2010!

1. Alex O’Loughlin. – A new champion has taken the title and the number one slot! That is truly a memorable moment in history in itself. But even moreso, this is the first year he really caught my eye. I admit I was part of the reason his previous shows may have failed, in that I never gave them the time of day and tuned in. But I am watching now! And the only thing that can rival the beautiful scenery of Oahu in Hawaii Five-0 is this man himself. Whether he’s in a suit, a tight tee, or simply swim trunks.

What better way to warm up these increasingly cold days than with a stroll down memory lane of the Top Ten Hotties of 2011??

2. Hawaii Five-0 didn’t necessarily get more interesting in the plot developments of the second season, but Alex O’Loughlin’s increasing muscle mass certainly kept us tuned into CBS longer than we expected to. Whether he was in civvies (like tight tee-shirts) or completely shirtless in a random and pretty unnecessary but somehow still fun MMA match, O’Loughlin managed to keep it classy– and never cheesy.

Alex’s acceptance speech: I’m ….. I’m lost for words. We’ll I’m not. I’ve got some words and I’ll give them to you now.

But I’m so incredibly happy. I feel so privileged to be a part of this show in the first place. And …. having to stop at 12 episodes, you know, because of the writers strike and stuff, has been really frustrating.

But to even be considered for this award was … was … was thrilling to me. Because it’s not about a panel of judges, it’s about my fans. It’s about all you people who watch the show.

It’s about the people. The people voting. To know …. I found out today, we’ve had over 10 million votes, which is incomprehensible to me. And I’m just really, really thrilled.

I’m so, so happy to accept this award.

I’d love to say congratulations to Private Practice and Gossip Girl, the other 2 finalists with Moonlight. And thank you so much to all you people who voted for us.

And … and, let’s all pray for another season. And …  Thank you! Thank you!

Question: What do you think will happen between Mick and Beth?

Alex: What do I think will happen between Mick and Beth? Well, quite a lot has happened already and … um … there’s a lot of water under that bridge.

There’s a lot of tension there as well, that has built up for the last 12 episodes. The relationship can only go so far for the show to continue to be a show, but something has to give in the next few episodes after 12.

But I’m not going to tell you what I think is going to happen.

Question: What makes Vampires so sexy?

Alex: What makes Vampires so sexy? I don’t know, you’re asking a Vampire, I can’t tell you that. You have to tell me that.

My Thoughts

• Interesting (and very sad) to know that both Private Practice(112 episodes) and Gossip Girl(121 episodes), who lost to Moonlight (16 episodes) in this poll, went on to do 6 seasons. It makes me feel that we as viewers (as well as Alex and the rest of the cast) were robbed of something special ……
• But at least we got these few episodes to drool over and I hope that you once again enjoy all the beautiful captures of Mick, which Paula made for us.

Alex O’Loughlin – Latest news – #HottieOfTheWeek

It has been two and a half months since hiatus started for the cast of  Hawaii Five-0, when filming of Season 4 ended in March – still a month and a half to go before we will once again get any news from the set in Hawaii, when filming of Season 5 starts. Although the wedding has been big news and we have had some pics from Tokyo, Oz and Hawaii, it has been really quiet on the news front about Alex. 😦

Some fans decided to make our own fun and news……. 😆 Last week a few of Alex’s fans started tweeting on the ‘Hottie of the Week‘ tag for E!News. By Wednesday Paula and I thought we should join the battle. We soon realised it was a battle between Alex’s fans and the Glee fans for Chris Golfer (Apparently Glee fans have been voting the cast in for the past 6 weeks) The other big contenders were Lady Gaga and Lauren Jauregui with some other minor following for other celebs as well. …… BUT last night this came through!

 And it was announced on E! News as they do every Friday evening.

Just to get everybody up to speed on what it is all about……

‘Hottie of the Week‘ is a twitter competition that E! News runs every week to give the fans  a chance to “vote” for their favorite star to be ‘Hottie of the Week’. This in fact means that it has nothing to do with the celebrities themselves, but just the fans willingness to annoy all their twitter followers with constant tweets to @ENews with the actor’s name and the #HottieOfTheWeek tag. 🙂

So all that this achieves is to get the celebrity mentioned on E! News on Friday night as ‘Hottie of the Week‘. Of course the target market for this is teen idols as it is normally teenagers who are willing to spend any time on this. 😀

Lucky for me and Paula, we have our own personal twitter accounts ( FOYeur ‏@FO_Yeur and paula ‏@neropatti ) apart from our blog account (IntenseStudy ‏@AboutAlexO ), so we could use those as well without annoying our blog followers too much or land in twitter jail for tweeting too much. 😀 I rarely use my twitter, but it came in very handy this time – apologies to my followers for the pic spam of Alex while I ‘voted’

During the whole time I did not see too much complaining from the fans on twitter and the timelines were filled with pretty pictures of Alex. Thousands of them! ❤ Of course it is not necessary to tweet pictures, but it helps, because you are not allowed to tweet the same tweet over and over again, so attaching a picture overcomes that problem. And it also gives the followers something to look at, other than just thousands of tweets with the same tags……..

Everybody did  a great job, because the real voting for Alex only started on Tuesday, but I think most will agree that a lot of the hard work was done by Carol – we applaud you! 🙂

Most of us who participated agree that we would much rather see Alex recognized for his acting, but that is not in our hands. None of us are members of the bodies that vote for acting accolades 😦 That is why we show our support in the places were we can at least try to make him aware of how much we appreciate him as an artist and as a person ……..♥
