These daily episodic posts that we do, with the quotes, illustrate a small part of Alex’s path over the 10 years while he was on the show. It shows what he looked like and how he felt at certain times.
According to each of our circumstances over years, we all change how we might feel. It is important to remember that what is said about how we feel, will not always stay the same. For that reason, we always share the dates with quotes – in order for it to be seen as part of a specific time and period – not as something Alex might have said at some stage, that will stay that way, always.
If I say I am tired today, I am not tired every day for the rest of my life. I might have a back problem today, that will be better and healed in a few weeks or months. I might feel disheartened at my job today, but a new project might show up that revives my interest. My children might be small today, but they grow up and won’t need me the same way like they do today ….
I hope you get the gist of what I am trying to illustrate. And please remember it when you read quotes of what Alex said over the years.

Over the years we have seen how Alex tends to be more forthcoming and open in interviews with Australian reporters.
There are many of us who can’t wait to read a new interview with Alex and to hear his thoughts and feelings at present – after resting, recuperating, spending time with family, and having time to explore other parts of his creativity and his hunger to tell stories.

Thank you, Foyeur. I think these quotes from Alex really reflect his character, and show us the man he became during the show, and possibly how he feels now. He may never want to enter that environment, and everything that went with it, again. I will be very sad if that happens, but reluctantly understand.

We know about infamous humbeleness and we love him for this. 🤗 But he should not put himself down. He was a beginner and he did progress and being good very quickly. He was already good on “Oyster Farmer” and “The incredible journey of Mary Bryant”, to start with. I love both film/mini series. And yes, he can be proud of what he did in H5O. He might have felt overwhelmed yet he pushed through and did an awesome job on and off screen.
What an amazing attitude in the comment about pondering to accept the role in H5O. He did care as much as he could even when it was really hard for him. He did his job and gave everything he possibly could give.
Unfortunatelly they didn´t care for him and took his dedication for granted. But it was not to be taken for granted and he deserved to be cared for, too. I can´t see that.
It´s sad and it hurts to read the comment about being taken advantage of and it makes me angry (not about Alex!) because we all know, it´s true. Alex worked so hard and took riscs that caused him to get injured. And I think, he put himself into too much because he wanted to please people and make the show a success- talking about us fans and his bosses who certainly talked him into doing more than what was good for him and put direct or indirect pressure on him in order to produce a spectacular show while not caring about his well-being, his health and how much he could take. I guess, if you have the attitude he had from the beginning which I think tells volumes about him as a professional, being willing to do everything you can possibly do and if you are confronted with a „produce a spectacular show no matter what costs“ attitude, you get hurt and sometimes injured. And of course, this is Hollywood. An industry where people too often don´t count.
As we can could read, the damage is done but I wish for him, he was able to heal. He is a special individual, a man who had a hard life from early on and conciously decided to fight and grow to become the man he can be. That´s a tough journey and his dedication to his craft is one part of it. He deserves to be surounded by people in his private life and in his work who treat him like he treats them: With respect – which makes it impossible to take advantage of s.o., appreciation, love and care.
And if Alex really decided to give up acting, I would understand. But I would want him to let his fans know. But maybe, if he still is passionate about acting, directing, story telling he can find a way to do what he once loved and maybe still loves outside of Hollywood. There is a growing independant film industry and he still has a huge potential in his craft which he didn´t have the opportunity to fully explore yet and to inspire people, too. But that´s up to him. In his private life he has found his „heaven“. It´s good to read what he said about his home and his family. That´s awesome. We will see now where is journey leads him into professionally.
Yes, Alex. I believe, that your interview comment makes perfect sense. There is something next for you.

It’s true that Alex has changed over the years. We all do.
As we get older and wiser, our priorities, principles, convictions, and beliefs take root, though they may change over the years. Alex’s love for his family and Hawaii is there to stay. Sure, he may one day divorce (God forbid !!!), he may visit Iceland and feel that Iceland is his paradise after all. He’s in BJJ body and soul, but he may try taekwondo and decide to switch from BJJ to it. Nothing is unchangeable.
But what Alex said in 2016 about fame, the wrong decisions he made regarding his work (how sad the sentence: “…a part of me has become one of those actors that I used to look at and go, oh, what’s wrong with him?”), his acknowledging he was taken advantage of, his panicking and misgivings… All this is past history, and he will never say it again. Now he fully knows his craft, in front and behind the camera, from the writing of the first line of a script to the final director’s “Cut!”. If he decides to resume his career in the showbiz trade, he won’t let himself been talked into risking his physical integrity to please his producers, and he’ll choose the projects that make feel him good and comfortable, not under stress or pressure.
The question is, will he resume his career? I agree with antjekreuz that it would be good if he let his fans know. I used to get crazy waiting for news. Now I live in a sort of philosophical numbness. When news come, they’ll come. In the meantime, my loyalty to this special man and excellent actor will remain intact.

I didn’t realize what a serious toll it took on Alex’s body playing McGarrett. I almost feel guilty for loving the show so much. Now I understand why he had to step back from being on screen so much in later seasons. I hope he is now healthy once more and can pick up his kids without pain. Thanks for the great posts.
