240 Days of #AlexOLoughlin as #H50 Steve McGarrett (Part 12)

We continue sharing our social media posts of the past weeks.

Remembering the 240 episodes of Hawaii Five-0 by sharing a picture from each episode together with some thoughts shared by Alex and others at the time and over the years ……

“Without the fans, we are nothing. Without the fans, filmmaking is a redundant industry. We need people to come and see what we do. I love them and cherish them, because without them I would have to go and do something else. I’d be a carpenter or something, because otherwise I wouldn’t have a job. I’m proud of my show, man.” – Alex O’Loughlin, Edmonton Journal, 20 January 2014

TV Plus: What do you look for in a partner?

“There’s a collection of things – a sense of humour’s really important and the ability to not take yourselves too seriously.  Also to be able to talk to the person who I’m with. I’ve had relationships where I can’t really talk to them. I’m in a relationship now where I can talk about anything. The ones I couldn’t talk to drifted away. You spend so much time together, you must have a good time.”Alex O’Loughlin, TV Plus, 30 October 2013

(Of course, they were talking about real-life relationships and not the pretend cop-buddy partnership of Hawaii Five-0)

I bought a house that I have to renovate and even if I’m not great at this, I don’t listen to my friends that keep on telling me to hire professionals. I like to do everything myself. I love it so much that sometimes I take some stuff apart, just for the pleasure of rebuilding it again. I didn’t play with Lego’s enough when I was younger.

Between a gun and a drill, I’m more at ease with a drill. I prefer the holes that a drill makes, rather than the ones by guns. ” – Alex O’Loughlin, TV 8 Magazine, 7 February 2014

I did my first play when I was eight-, nine-years-old. I loved it then, and I love it now. I’m not really good at anything else.” Alex O’Loughlin, The Edmonton Journal, January 2014

O’Loughlin dispelled suggestions that he’s looking for a way to get out of Hawaii Five-0. He was misquoted in a recent media report, he said:

“I signed a contract for six or seven years, and that’s what I’m committed to. And if we do anything after that, we do something after that. Look, I love this show. This show is my job. This is my show. I like doing more work than anyone else connected to the show. I have from the beginning, and I will to the end. This is my life, and it’s all I have. I don’t have time to go do films. I don’t have the luxury of gaps in my schedule so I can go and do passion projects. I miss that, but I’m fully committed to Hawaii Five-0 and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given. I get really mad when I’m misquoted. I try to be honest with the press. I don’t give one-word answers, and I like to say what I think. I’ve got a bit of a sense of humour. But when I’m misquoted and painted in a certain way, it makes me not want to do press. I’m ferociously protective of this show, so I would like to meet that journalist again on a carpet.” – Alex O’Loughlin, The Edmonton Journal, January 2014

Peter’s the best. Peter is the one guy that works harder than I do. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have the show. If it wasn’t for his advocacy and his championing of me, I wouldn’t be a part of this and you wouldn’t be talking to me today. He is the most committed, resourceful, vision-driven guy I think I’ve ever met. He’s the best writer with plot that I’ve ever met. The way he can solve problems on set, creatively in the script, within 30 minutes’ time, and have the pages ready for is incredible.

He’s hands-on. He’s on set regularly, and always available. I will email him at 4 a.m., and he’ll email me back in three minutes. He’s a huge reason we’re still on the air, why the show is the hit that it is, and why all the fans around the world get to have a show every week. I really think that with a different showrunner, it may have been a different story. We may not have stayed on the air.” – Alex O’Loughlin, Edmonton Journal, 20 January 2014

“I´m very excited to be here. I’m very excited to be going to Season 5. I mean, it’s really hard to have … get a hit TVshow… It’s hard to get a show on the air. It’s even harder to make it a hit.

I don’t know what the recipe is, but we’re just going to do what we did every year and work really hard together … and you know … I’m nervous, we are doing 25 episodes this year. That’s a lot of TV. We’ve never done that many before. We do 22 or 24. And the years we did 24, we were all like (face of exhaustion). We are going to do 25 this year so … “ – Alex O’Loughlin, HNN, Season 5 Blessing Ceremony – 8 July 2014

Food for thought I saw on social media this week …

Some people create their own storms and then they get mad when it rains!

Love the pictures and love his comments.
What a man, what an actor. I understand now why he stoped after 10 seasons, he worked so hard and then his injuries.
Wauw I take a very deep bow and take my hat off for this man. 👏👏🤙🤙

He emailed Peter at 4 a.m. My God, no wonder he was exhausted!
I wish Peter had had such an admiring and vehement speech about his leading man. A little praise here and there was never enough for me.

“I did my first play when I was eight-, nine-years-old. I loved it then, and I love it now. I’m not really good at anything else.” Can this retro sentence give rise to some hope? He said this ‘only’ 8 years ago. Just asking.

Love this, Foyeur!! I love Alex’s comments. He is an eloquent and honest person.
I haven’t given up hope yet, but the wait seems interminable. As Alex did re-sign with his earlier agent, I choose to believe that he hasn’t abandoned acting, or other aspects of show-business.

He is such a humble guy.
I remember his words about Lenkov very well. And I remember me thinking it’s about time PL has some praise for his lead who carries this show. But nope.
Great and true quote at the end, FOYeur. Thank you for the screens, Paula. I don’t know why, but esp. the last one gets me. Maybe it is the pink beast, maybe the Alexpression, maybe both…

    • Thanks, LeiCa
Paula usually decides on the pictures for our posts, but for these 240 days’ posts, I have been going through the episode screencaps to choose the pics.
Kind of difficult to find that one picture to represent an episode. There are so many, but for some episodes, it is not that easy to find that one.
And we are not even halfway yet 😮 – Hope I can keep it up with the pictures and the quotes.

      • There are so many, but for some episodes, it is not that easy to find that one. >>> Oh yes. I remember having this ‘problem’ with my Let’s pic(k) Steve, although I needed several pics. But the problem was the same. Too many Alexpressions!

    • Well, me thinking: Maybe, just maybe Alex was not that teflon action hero that PL wanted. I remember reading a comment PL made in the beginning of H5O in which he said, that he was looking for “an Australian man who can act”. “Australian man” in Hollywood meant at that time “action hero” and “sex-symbol”. What he got was a good looking, athletic-fit young man who is a wonderful actor and who was able to do many action scenes and was willing to work his butt off. If PL was just looking for an acting hero who does the hard core stuff all the time he could always have hired people like Arnold Schwarzenegger. But I highly doubt, H5O would have come out as awesome as it was if he did so. There were many aspects of H5O, a lot of character which were not action related which made that show so good. So I totally agree with you about not enough”praise for his lead who carries the show”. 👍  Imo Alex was much more than an action hero and contributed a lot to the show´s success.

“…he could always have hired people like Arnold Schwarzenegger…” LOL! Sorry, no offense meant to AS. He, or Stallone or Van Damme for that matter, were good “action heroes”, but they’d never have been able to give a soul to McGarrett as Alex did. That was the beauty of H50. An action hero with the capacity to feel and transmit emotions, just with subtle but very effective facial expressions. That is, Alex, who else?

        • This is an AOL page but one word about Stallone: I always thought, he is just an action hero who can not act. Recently I watched “Over the Top” in which he portrayed a father who tried to reconnect with his son and I thought: “Wow, he can actually play.”

    Hi!

Some of us fans talked on the discord group, and we’re just going to make Steve McGarrett’s b-day, March 10, our very own Hawaii Five-0 day. Give our fandom an entire day to celebrate our favorite show, and the awesomeness that is Alex and Scott and the other actors and actresses!

We’re still figuring stuff out, but it would be great if y’all were willing to be in on the fun!

    And here’s the tumblr post:
