240 Days of #AlexOLoughlin as #H50 Steve McGarrett (Part 6)

We continue sharing the social media posts of the past weeks.

Remembering the 240 episodes of Hawaii Five-0 by sharing a picture from each episode together with some thoughts shared by Alex and others at the time and over the years ……

“Probably the biggest thing is how responsible for the show I actually feel. I don’t know if that’s my job to feel that way or whatever.”Alex O’Loughlin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jun 2012

“I got hurt a number of times on the show, and I took a break, and it was the best thing for my physical recovery. Everything’s good now.”Alex O’Loughlin, USA Today, Sept 2012

“Alex is just phenomenal. He’s such a good actor. That first big confrontation scene in the first episode, I felt, ‘Ah, this is so great. I don’t have to do any work, because he’s so great. I just have to look in his eyes and respond.’ He’s talented, boy. He’s the real thing.” Christine Lahti, SceenerTV, October 2012

“Family is my first priority. I hate to tell the producers of this show that, but that’s my first priority. The show is my second priority. The show is extremely important, and you see how much I put into the show, so you can only imagine how much I put into my family,”Alex O’Loughlin, Honolulu Pulse, September 2012.

“Every spare minute I get, I am at home. I’m with the kids, I am with Malia. I came back into season three, and I realized that … I am having a baby and I have my 15-year-old at home as well who lives with me and I have a lot of responsibilities. But more than that, I have a responsibility to myself, and that’s something that I think I neglected a little bit. Not in a careless way, but this is the first show that I have had that has succeeded. I think I felt like it was really on my shoulders, and I had some sort of Superman complex — I’m going to be all right; you can’t hurt me. But you can. I’m just like everyone else. Bang me around enough, eventually something’s going to break.,”Alex O’Loughlin, Honolulu Pulse, September 2012.

“Christine is such an incredible actor. She’s so much fun on set, but she has such a presence And she brings that…..the character of Doris McGarrett perfectly, you know she plays it pitch-perfect.”Alex O’Loughlin on HNN, Sept 2012

“It [Hawaii] became home pretty quickly for me. I fell in love with this place. I was in Los Angeles for a long time before this you. And I’m not someone who gets homesick very often, but when I did, I would really …. I would keenly feel the absence of all the sort of little familiarities and comfortabilities that Australia has for me. And here it’s actually a lot …. it’s kind of a lot like Australia. It’s a lot like Queensland. And the people here are a lot more like Australians. Hawaiians are very sort of chilled-out and grounded and loving but tough. There are a lot of similarities. So I feel at home. I love it here.” Alex O’Loughlin, HNN, Sept 2012

After all these years, I still enjoy Season 3 the most.

It was such a wonderful period for Alex personally and also for the stories of each episode in the show that year!

How I love these trips to the past! And the choice of pics is great! Thank you, FOYeur.

And I agree with you, S3 was one of the best, together with S1. The arrival of Doris boosted the show. She was maddening but helped building Steve’s background for us. Plus all the scenes Steve-Doris were intensely played. There was so much chemistry between Alex and Christine.

  4. Probably sounds silly but reading those comments make me once again aware of the journey that Alex did those now 13 years and it´s great to read them. He started the show on islands where he actually didn´t want to go at first. He pretty fast fell in love with Hawaii, bought a house, embraced the culture and became part of the community. He met a beautiful woman with a young kid, fell in love and bonded with her son and became a loving and caring partner to both (I just remembered several photos with Spike ❤ ). He put everything he possibly could into the show and got injured more than once to a degree that he had to take painkillers to be able to work which made him addicted. Because of that result of his dedication he was insulted and attacked by some press and so called "fans". But he did what he had to do and came back healthy and fit and with the insight to be more careful with himself and the decision to put himself and his family first and priority. 👍
And along that way he did an incredible job and was loved and respected by literally everybody he worked with and of course by many many crazy fans 😉 , many who still watch the show over and over again. He added so much to his character and the whole show by playing an often very intense character. ❤
What a journey – and this is only a small part. He has visibly grown so much which is just awesome.
Thank you for reminding us, FOYeur and thank you Alex for being who you are and allowing us to follow you on a part of your journey. Be blessed.

    • Cassiopea 1000

A very neat and accurate résumé of Alex’s last 13 years! Bravo, antjekreuz!

Alex is special, we all know that, but even so, I often wonder what sort of secret power he has to maintain his real fans (as opposed to Steve/Alex fans) as loyal now as they were when he was in the limelight. I too thank him for being who he is. It’s good to remember there still are good men in this crazy evil world.

      • Good question that I can only answer for myself. And I guess, everybody will give you a very personal answer. But I think, what draws all of us to him and make us stay is that he is genuine/authentic and that he allows people to see a part of who he is. This requires courage esp. when you are in the public´s eyes. What do you think, people?

Now we know why Alex loves Hawaii so much. It reminds him of Australia and people are laid back like we are so we can’t blame him at all wanting to stay there. I felt a little like that when I holidayed there a few years back for Christmas!!!

I love your character of Steve Mcgarrett who is the Big Kahona, The Hawaian Superman ad you played this character to the hilt. I love the actress who plays Doris your mother. You are an outstanding actor and seem really down to earth. Love you always.
