Another one of our photoshoots posts from way back at the beginning of Alex’s film career ….
We know of only 3 pictures available, that were apparently from a photoshoot with Sydney photographer Terence Chin. And we are not even sure that they were taken on the same occasion. All the sources say that these pictures were taken in 2005 – it seems that the first two were used in an article about Oyster Farmer. Unfortunately, we do not know much about it.
The reason we are not sure that it was taken on the same day, is because Alex is wearing a different T-shirt and he is not wearing the watch as in the other pictures. Not, that changing of clothes would be an issue with a photoshoot. It is just that there is not much known about exactly when these were taken.
- The only other time that we know of when this picture was used, was when the gossip site Blabbermouth.net reported about the newspaper’s false report of Alex being Bon Scott’s son in 2007.
Australian Media Probing Actor’s Alleged Claim That He Is BON SCOTT’s Son
April 6, 2007 (Discover undefined)
He’s on the well-trodden path to Hollywood stardom, but it seems Aussie actor Alex O’Loughlin may also be well-versed in the “Highway to Hell”.
The “Oyster Farmer” star — who recently joined the cast of U.S. cop drama “The Shield” — has apparently revealed he’s the son of late AC/DC frontman Ronald “Bon” Scott, according to World Entertainment News Network
And while [The Daily Telegraph‘s] Confidential yesterday contacted both O’Loughlin‘s Sydney and L.A.-based agents, neither were able to confirm the claim which first appeared in the Chicago Tribune last week.
O’Loughlin — currently dating fellow Aussie hottie Holly Valance — was also out of reach, in Canada to film thriller “Whiteout” alongside Kate Beckinsale.
The NIDA-trained actor, who was tested for the role of James Bond before it went to Daniel Craig, was born in 1977 at the height of Scott‘s fame — three years before the rocker died in London in February in 1980.
The quick spread of these types of false reports just shows you how fast something can become a fact on social media and all over the internet. Some even remain facts for many years, even when not true or substantiated. And this report also got people confused about Alex’s year of birth.
In many interviews and magazine articles after that, it was mentioned and Alex had a good laugh at the false rumour.
- This is from News Weekly in March 2008
News Weekly: There was a rumour that you were the secret love child of Bon Scott, the late lead singer of AC/DC.
Alex: Where did that rumour come from? That just knocked me.
News Weekly: There’s also another guy claiming that he is Bon’s son…
Alex: It’s the same photo that they used to compare me. And this other dude – he looks nothing like me! I was looking at it going [to actress/singer girlfriend Holly Valance], “Hol, I could be Bon Scott’s son”, and she said, “No you couldn’t, you don’t look anything like him.” This other bloke, maybe he is, good luck to him! [Laughs]
News Weekly: It must be bizarre for a rumour like that just to come from nowhere.
Alex: It is bizarre, man. But it wasn’t malicious, it was almost cool. Kind of mysterious. My Dad was cool as a cucumber, Mum was a little hurt. She was a little offended but she got over it. It’s just ridiculous.
Back to our pictures by Terence Chin
- The third one of these pictures, was used in colour in an Australian article in 2007 for Sunday Magazine.
If there are some long-time fans who know more about these pictures from Terence Chin, please let us know.
Somehow, I don’t think all three pics are part of the same photoshoots. In the first one, Alex looks a little bit younger than in the other two. Also, in those with the watch, his tattoo seems to have disappeared, though it may be due to the position of his forearm. In any case, back in 2005, he already knew how to use his eyes as a weapon of massive seduction!
As to the rumor on his being Bon Scott. That’s the kind of rumor that can wreck a marriage. What if Alex’s father had not been “cool as a cucumber”? After all, both Bon Scott and Alex are tall, thin, with roughly the same complexion… What if that story had left his Dad doubtful? How dangerous a rumor to disseminate!

Well, by the time that rumour floated around in 2007, Alex’s parents had been divorced nearly 30 years already – so no chance of it wrecking their marriage 😉
About the forearm tattoos it the picture – I think the pictures were edited by the publications they were in. I have seen it in other publications as well, like the sexiest TV Guide 2008, where the forearm tattoo was complete;y edited out for the picture used in the magazine.

I wouldn’t describe Alex as thin, more lean, ripped and ready, lol.

Just another example how stupid rumours come into existence. They can be potentially harmful and are certainly annoying but in retrospect this one is just funny. But it probably wasn´t funny at the time it came up. Didn´t Alex tell in an interview that his mother was pretty embarrassed about that rumour? Another reminder of not believing everything you read and to use your own brain and cross-check facts which might help to identify at least some of that nonsense.
Nice photos though. ❤ 🙂

Ah, now I did almost spread a rumour. This interview stated (if Alex really said that), that his mother “was a little hurt” and “a little offended”.

I think with most of these interviews they used recordings and would use the celebrity’s own words as it was said at the time. The problems come in when a “reporter” uses someone else’s interviews and put their own spin (interpretation) on it.
But as I said, Alex used different variations to answer this question.

Alex responded with variations about it in different interviews.
I personally think the family had a good laugh at it and that his mother’s “embarrassment” was more of a joke amongst them, because they all knew that it was far removed from who she is.

Hopefully. But you never know. When you live in a small town where people like to gossip. Even if it´s not true or downright ridiculous. We all know, what makes some people tick….. . Some people are just weird.

He’d make a Great Pirate! Hey, if Depp isn’t doing Pirates of the Caribbean anymore, how about Alex? Yum!

I have always said that they should have used the main cast of H50 to play the pirates in the Season 6 opener. It would have been great fun to see Alex as a pirate.
I think they missed an opportunity for some dress-up fun with it.

LOL. Great idea, FOYeur. I just try to imagine how that would look like and how they would play their roles. 😀

YES! I remember, we all have been full of hope that tptb will do so. From the first blurry pics we got from the filming I even thought that Alex was the pirate captain. Sigh. Another what could have been…

What a great idea! Alex could be Jack Sparrow’s younger half-sibling and be Francis Sparrow. Both brothers have the same father, Sparrow, and different mothers. As Francis’s mother is French, he is raised in France, so he becomes a privateer (after all, piracy is in his veins through his dad!). But as a privateer, he is more refined than Jack (no dreadlocks, no bringing on the frenzied wish to scrub him clean), he is very much thought of by the King, he commands a very fine vessel, and all his crew respect him and would give their lives for him. All Caribbean sailors fear him because he is so brave, but islander people feel safe with him as he never attacks nor robs them. Well, islander men do hate him, because their women invariably succumb to his charm (ah, those eyes, those eyelashes, that mouth, that etc. etc.) and to his sense of humor. And think of the possibility of seeing him emerging from the ocean with his cloths clinging to him! Wah! That would be Part I.
Part II, if Johnny Depp is reinstated as Jack Sparrow, could be about the two brothers fighting over the same booty, their two ladies fighting each other in Coconut Island to help their man. I definitely see Michelle Borth here, but am unsure about Jack’s SO.
Yes, a great idea, D. Harvard!
