#AlexOLoughlin – Photos by Films and Filming Magazine

In July last year a new/old picture of Alex from the Moonlight days was posted by what seems to be the original photographer. We shared it here

Then a few more of them were posted, which we did not share yet.  We are not sure if it was a formal shoot or why and exactly when the pictures were taken.

We presume they were taken somewhere in late 2007 or early 2008, as it was clearly taken during the days of Alex being Mick. (Wearing Mick’s ring and clothes etc.)

Recently another one of the pictures were posted and we thought it would be good to share them all here as well.

    • Hi Alysia.
You will have to contact him through his agency. I am unfortunately not 100% sure what their details are at the moment.

    • I think, you can´t. Alex is not on social networks and those who claim to be him are imposters and scammers. I don´t know, whether it´s possible to receive autographes though. LOL, the only way you can communicate with him is travelling to Hawaii and hope, to meet him there by chance in a situation where he has time and is willing to talk to you. …. This is not meant as a suggestion to actually do so and travel to Hawaii! 🙂

LOL! Nobody should waste their time travelling to Hawaii if their only purpose is meeting Alex, unless they psych themselves up and are ready to have all their meals in Japanese or Italian restaurants. That’s where one might, just might, see him. And a tip if one meets him in an Italian restaurant: he doesn’t like to be disturbed when he’s eating spaghetti (he said so himself). I can understand that. It’s tricky enough to eat slippery spaghetti without splashing one’s shirt with tomato sauce without having to deal with fans in the process. Even adorable people like Alex have their limits…

Better wait until our own Wonderwoman, a.k.a. FOYeur, finds a reliable address where we fans can contact him.

        • I wonder, how it feels to be the “target” of people´s “admiration” and sometimes obsession of crazy “fans”? it´s certainly not easy esp. when you´re a private person. I don´t know, whether I would like that. Probably not. I´m glad, Alex and family can lead a relatively normal life in Hawaii and I hope, too we will see more of his many talents and of the person he is and that he can find a good balance. – Fine. Enough written now. It´s a cold, rainy day over here and your DNA reference just gave me a great idea: I´m going to watch DNA again now. Have a good sunday, everybody. 🙂

Re-watching DNA is always a good idea! This reminds me of a question I’ve never made. Do we know who chose the song Gortoz a Ran for the death scene?

            • That is why we were begging the DVD producer (David Naylor) for a director’s cut or a director’s commentary of that episode on the DVD.
Not sure why it was never done. Either Alex did not want to do it, or the DVD producer did not think it would be a selling point for the DVD, or the studio did not want to have it made.
Who knows?. In my opinion, it is really sad that it did not happen!!

If Alex did not want to do it, so be it. His decision, our amen. If it is a case of the DVD producer not thinking it would be a selling point, he should have his head seen to. It would have been a HUGE selling point. If it was the studio that did not want it, I’d like to shake the decision-makers until they say why on earth not!

A director’s cut for DNA would have been succulent!

            • Yes, that song in that scene made me goose bumps. I too wonder who chose it? I think, that scene was absolutelly terrific. Showing McGarrett´s shock and not just let him cry. Oh boy. That and some over scenes are the reason why I wrote, Alex is a wonderful director. The scene at the airport with the blanket was genius, too. I already liked the blanket photos he did during the “Mountain Man” photoshoot and now this. And there were more things I saw. Those things combined with a great scrip and wonderful acting made that episode truly special. ❤

“Showing McG’s shock and not just let him cry”. Exactly. It would have been so much easier for Alex as an actor to cry and sob and look devastated than just let grief and sorrow flood his face without practically moving a muscle. What a sublime performance!

                Liked by 2 people

                • Yeah. And not just the face. The whole face/body-language complex in that scene was sublime performance. And this combined with that awesome music and the directing (esp. filter and camera) ….. .

                • Exactly! It was the first time I really cried with this show. That was absolutely terrific.
Grief and sorrow flooding his face is a perfect description. Alexpressions. He did that before and always made me misty and teary eyed. In the last scene of 4.21, when he was totally lost and so lonely. Or the ending in 5.19, the “Don’t touch the sideburns” episode.

Was not 4.21 the epi when Danny’s mom makes her appearance? I can’t remember the end. What makes him lost and lonely? And yes as to the “Don’t touch the sideburns” epi, when he slowly dissolves into tears watching the pics of the children. Tears seemed to come to him so naturally, as if in RL.

And don’t forget epi 100, when his team find him. He looks so completely haggard, not knowing where he is, asking for his father then painfully realizing that he’s dead. That and seeing him huddled in a corner like a pitiful little child earlier in the epi, made me want to hug him and comfort him. He made you forget Steve was only a character. Or his crumpled face when Catherine tells him that she is leaving him.

I think it was Alex who told a H50 guest actor “Do more less” or words to that effect. What good advice! I can’t help thinking of an epi of a show where a paramedic is involved in an accident while driving an ambulance and a young woman is badly injured. The Niagara tears, the cries, the crumpling of legs, that face looking like an ancient Greek theatre mask to express consternation and pain… and Alex doing nothing and yet dragging you into his character’s soul. Ah, Alex’s acting!

                    • 4.21 was the episode when Steve was nearly beheaded and all alone at home at the end. Sniff. No idea if D’s mother was in that episode. I really don’t care about all of Dannoying’s family except maybe Grace.
But a big fat YES to everything you wrote about Alex’ acting especially what you wrote at the end. Overacting is the worst an actor can do. It is bad. Really bad and destroys the scene. “Do less more” ;-), was a perfect advise. I think AOL gave this advise to his actors when directing an episode. He wanted them to be more subtle, and they tried. 😋😇

            • I can’t remember for the life of me why I think it was Alex who chose the music. I think I heard/read someone saying so. Maybe at the private screening? Maybe after the epiCsode aired? I really don’t know, it is in my head and I have no idea who put it there, lol.
But I think it makes sense since Alex is a music lover. (Hey, he nearly was Bon Scott’s son. LOL – Sorry FOYeur for rewaking this stupid rumor. *ducksandhides*)

              • LOL. Luckily there are enough articles on here that I can immediately quote if the rumor flares again. 🙂

I think in all our minds we would like to believe that Alex chose the music. And the chances are that it is so.
But I do not even think it was already in the episode with the private screening. As far as I can recall Alex said that not all the sound editing has been done yet, on that night.
I think the only person who would have been able to comment on it and confirm it, would have been Peter. Nor sure if there was ever a discussion about it on Twitter.
If you can recall anything about it or get any such information again, please remember to share it here

                • Maybe we will hear about that one day. I remember another episode that Alex directed which included a bank robbery and a car chase. And the music during that car chase was hard rock music. Clearly no typical H5O imo but it added a lot of dynamics to the scene. And I guess, I know, who chose that music. Anyway: whoever chose that music in DNA did a great job.

                • The moment I remember I will let you know. Right now, I’ve got no idea.
Did Alex talk about the *sound* editing in particular? Or was it editing (like the magic table, displays and stuff)?

          • I think Alex appreciate his fans a lot (according to what he said on many occasions)
It is just a pity that some do not really know where to draw the line and not become crazy. But I guess the line of appropriateness is in a different place for all of us.
And what he perceives as normal admiration for his craft, might not be the same as what we thought it should be.
            A real conundrum I guess.

      • I know of an address for his agency, but I do not really want to share it, because if not correct or if people do not get a response back, they might say we mislead them.
So I would rather not even try.

And your story about the splashing spaghetti gave me a good laugh. Thank you for the fun!

I’m eagerly waiting to see Alex in a theatrical movie. Here’s hoping. that’s why he’s been silent. He’s patiently waiting for that great role which will bring him back to the big screen worldwide.

Perfect pics! If we cannot have something new new, let’s have at least something old new, so we can revel in his beautiful DNA, as PL would say.

Thank you for keeping us alive in these freezing days!
