#AlexOLoughlin with @JamesTaylor_com on the Set of #H50 – April 2013

In April 2013 singer James Taylor and his family visited the set of Hawaii Five-0.

They posted various pictures of the occasion.

These are the ones with Alex.

  1. Happy Days

Oh ladies, you are really spoiling us with all these posts. Please keep them coming, it is like manna from heaven!

Yes, of course we enjoy these trips, though the term “memory lane” makes me a little bit sad. With Alex being so hermetic these days, it sounds like if he were dead. Which he is temporarily and professionally speaking.

Other actors have moved on after H50. DDK in ‘New Amsterdam’ or Terry O’Quinn in ‘FBI Most Wanted’ are only two examples. Sure, they are only guest stars and that’s not what we want for Alex, but at least they are being active.

More than one year without knowing of Alex’s plans makes me uneasy. His business field is so full of sharks that if you are not there to fight them, you are obliterated. Add to that that he lives far from LA, where the showbusiness decision-makers are, and that trans-Pacific travelling is difficult even for US residents, and you have the perfect scene to be skipped when castings are under way.

I’m of an optimistic nature, and I keep saying to myself that he is taking his time to prepare something great, not having to rush into anything for financial needs, but right now I need you guys to give me a morale booster, to steer my mind from thinking that I’ll spend the rest of my life re-watching H50, Mary Briant and Oyster Farmer.

    • Yes, that is a difficult one.
One thing I realised again while I am working on and redoing all of the old stuff – Alex was born to entertain and I think he will always get back to it. He loves telling stories – And we love watching him do it.
I also thought for a long while not to really “update” the site with old stuff and to just wait for new news. But a number of things inspired me to keep at it and to finish some of the old stories – for those who adore him now, and for those new fans his next project will create!!

“Alex was born to entertain and he will always get back to it”. This little sentence is music to my ears. I’ll remember it for comfort when I have a bad waiting-for-Alex day!

I don’t know what things have inspired you to keep this site “updated”, but it is good you think this way. A solid fanbase is essential these days if you want to keep your star status, and your posts, even if you only have old stuff to work with, keep us Alex fans connected to him, which he needs.

    • I understand your feelings because sometimes I feel the same way. But I also think, there are a couple of things to think about: 1. Alex just came out of a very exhausting show and didn´t have time to really recover with that lockdown and corona situation and his kids at home which was hard for every parent. So maybe he is just not yet ready to go to work. 2. I think, he was typecasted as an action hero which would make it more difficult for him to get into another kind of role. 3. CBS knows what kind of person, actor and now director, writer and producer he is. They even wrote an “appreciation note” to thank him for his work which was read at, I think, the 200 episode celebration. If they were honest with it, they won´t let a man like him down. At least I hope so. So they will hopefully help him to get back to work if needed when he is ready. Plus they know, he has a huge international fanbase. And if nothing has changed, what of course you never know, Alex would very likely want to go on with telling stories, at least as writer, director and hopefully also as an actor. And he always said he wants to tell stories that speak to himself and he may be even be able to start producing or co-producing them. So I think, we will see more of him and his work in the future. But you are right: This waiting time is not easy. At leastthere are photos and clips now and then which he allowes to share so we can see what he is up to and doing o.k. And I´m pretty sure, he would let people know, if he decided to quit his career. So we´ll have to wait for news. As hard as it is.

        Let me take your points.
        1. Granted, Alex was exhausted after 10 years of H50. Granted, the lockdown did not help. But he has been resting and recovering these last 14 months, and the lockdown and other restrictions have been lighter for months now. Movies and TV shows have been produced since the pandemic started, so technically speaking, he could have worked.
        2. That he might be typecasted as an action hero and have difficulties in finding other roles does not sound good. He has been a convict, a surgeon, a vampire, a psycho, and an oyster farmer among other roles, so it would be extremely unfair to have him pigeonholed as McG for the rest of his career. Unfortunately, it’s true that many actors/actresses have done little or nothing after having starred in a long run successful show.
        3. CBS. Yes, they would be fools let him down. Alex has made them earn money (and as I have already commented in a previous post, this business is not about art but audience = commercials = money), but I’m afraid I don’t believe in their gratitude or even in their capacity to recognize what an asset he is in any production. The “appreciation note” may have just been a politically correct gesture. Or not. Maybe they were being sincere. Who’s to know?
Alex has a huge international fanbase: True. He has now. If he doesn’t move, some fans will. I can remember fans sickly, painfully in love with him who ceased to comment 30 seconds after the last H50 epi was aired. Or others who gradually disappeared from this site as Alex gradually started getting grey hairs. Conclusion: you cannot take your fanbase for granted.

But he wants to tell stories and, as FOYeur say, to entertain. That’s the little light at the end of this endless tunnel…

        Grrrr! Maddening man!

        • I know. Maybe we should take Alex as an example and stay positiv. LOL. Didn´´t I write, he is a good role model? 😀 I believe, and this is my very personal believe and I don´t expect anybody to accept it: If he is meant to go on with his career, he will. If not, there will be another door open for him. But I´m sure, we will know it.
