Events of this past week and celebrating Mothers day today, sparked my thoughts to complete this post that I have been contemplating of for a while ….
It is a Thank You post to the “Mothers” of the Alex fandom, of which we are also a small part of.
The “Mothers” I am thinking of, are those who came before – The mothers who nurtured Alex’s fans when his stardom was still in infancy. Specifically those sites where I got my first glimpses of who Alex is, from. People like Mary who ran Adoring Alex O’Loughlin. Org for many years, and Tiffany at AOLO, and of course Mizzoh with her wonderful informative site, AOLR – all with a lot of respect for Alex and fellow fans.
And there are many others, like Titine from Addicted to Alex O’Loughlin, Kandyegirl of Alex O’Loughlin Blog.spot, Pam & Carol of Olaughingpress.org and Alyssa of Alex O’Loughlin ‘s Place. Also the ladies from the McPerv’s site, Silvia of Alex O’Loughlin Journal, and many other names like Terry and Mymaximus, who so generously shared wonderful pictures. All contributing in sharing and preserving information, for those who wanted to know more about Alex and his career in those early days.
Of course there are those fandom “Mothers” who are still around, like the ladies from LLOL, and those from Facebook pages like Jill and the team at Gorgeous O’Loughlin. And those from the German sites, like Alex O’Loughlin International Community and Mostly Five-0.
But we can’t miss out on some who also had a more lasting influence on us, like ESS from H50BAMF and later together with her, the other ladies on AOLwww. And together with them a whole bunch of intelligent and funny ladies in that community.
There are many other countless ladies from fan pages on various forms of social media, who in their own way also contributed over the years. We might not know you by name or association, but we know you are there and we catch glimpses of your dedication.
A Great big THANK YOU to you all.
This week, my thank you comes from a place of missing so many of you these days.
During this past week there has been a bombardment on us from those who do not respect the boundaries of being a fan of Alex, and lack of respect for his colleagues and their careers and the dynamic amongst them and their private lives. Those who want to force their personal opinions, formed by hearsay, onto others. Opinions, about interpersonal relationships of people on set, that has been obtained through secondhand gossip and in some cases fed by pure hatred.
We as fans have no business in the private lives and personal opinions of celebrities and their workplace. And to think we know them in any way at all, as private people, is not part of our world of fandom. We are here to enjoy their work and who they are.
Most of these vile comments by the group of individuals were deleted from our Instagram, but you can still catch some of their idiocracy and slurs towards us on our Twitter timeline. And maybe some of you also caught parts of it on some Facebook groups.
We know who we are and what we stand for. And I reject their onslaught with the disdain it deserves.
Getting back to the spirit of this post
Most of all, Thank You to the wonderful women that are here (on also on our IG, FB and Twitter pages) – even during these quiet times. Reading and contributing with your comments and fun approach to it and your mutual adoration of Alex – it is pure joy.
We appreciate you all!
And of course there are a few people who assist and support us behind the scenes – gathering and sourcing old and new information. We appreciate you more than you will ever know!

A wonderful post. There are very dedicated people out there, keeping the fandom alive. Unfortunately, as in real life, there a nasty people out there who know no respect. Not for the actors, or the people who give so many fans such joy through their sites.
Personally, I wish I had more time to keep Mostly active, but at the moment there simply isn’t any time. But the site stays online, and hopefully at some point it will be more alive again.
In the meantime, thank you for all the wonderful posts of the past, and hopefully the future.

Thank you for this post. It is great to see the names of all the dedicated fans who shared so much from earlier days so that us newbies can be entertained and informed about Alex’s career. The fun and laughs everyone has had over the years are wonderful to read about. Wish I had been here then too. Am really enjoying the recaps you’re giving us, and so hope we will have more Alex stuff to watch in the future

It´s sad to read that there are people out their who follow their own agenda and show no respect. Neither for the actors and their work and work relationships, nor for the people behind those actors and their private lives.
It´s wonderful to be able to read all those informations and watch the interviews and stuff on this site. Thank you for that!

I just wanted to say that I am so appreciative of all the blood, sweat and tears that goes into running the sites dedicated to the very luv-er-ley Mr. O’L. It is just so sad that by making these resources available to people like me that you have also opened yourselves up to nasty-minded ‘fans’ who are, quite frankly, unpleasant, unprofessional and utterly discourteous with their displays of rudeness and a complete lack of consideration for other people.
I can only imagine how upsetting it is to be on the receiving end of such vile abuse, when all you are wanting to do is share the love with other like-minded fans of Alex. The irony is that they think they are true ‘fans’, while displaying the exact opposite characteristics of the man himself, who is known for his integrity and respect of others.
Please know that for every one of these horrible trolls, there are a thousand of us who appreciate your efforts (I think I might be channelling the awesome ‘reply to a terrorist’ speech that Steve McGarrett gave to a brainwashed college student in the ‘blue room’ in Season 4 Episode 20).

Lets me quote you one of the messages we got:
Comment: “This page or blog think that they are superior in the fan world of Alex O’Loughlin such as shame they don’t really know him! And knew him before he got there! I hate to say, just because you think we haven’t followed you from 2010, I been a fan from this first movie, and before he became famous! You weren’t there then!”
That was After I said this:
Me: “And we don’t believe in allowing comments about rumours or gossip or hearsay (unverified, unofficial information gained or acquired from another and not part of one’s direct knowledge) about anyone on #h50 on our site or pages”
We they got the idea in any of my comments or on any of these pages here or comments anywhere, I don’t know.
Best of all – in the middle there she started acting superior by kind of trying to shame us for know being Australian and knowing him since back then.
I do not really know where any of her logic comes from. It is mind baffling.
And here is one more to the lines of what you said:
“This page believes itself superior to other pages and to fans, it is unacceptable. This page forgets that some have known Alex for a very long time. Others know his life because he has known him since he lived in Hawaii some are friends, neighbors. So they know Alex better.”
And again also just because I did not allow all their “gossip” comments, where one of my friends knows the brother in law, of one of the Techs on H50, and they know exactly how Scott feels.
When I told them, I have no interest in the second-hand hearsay and don’t care if it is true or not – they started calling us superior.
I really don’t care or have ever claimed to know anything about Alex’s personal life. For me, that is not why we are here at all. I don’t want to invade Alex’s privacy like that, or broadcast it to the world.
In the end, I could only laugh at all the nonsense – and remember that there are actually so many wonderful REAL fans of Alex & his work, around us.
Those who know being a fan is supposed to be fun.

I am a fan. Period. A fan of a great actor and a mensch ;-), someone who lives his life with grace, humanity and thoughfulness. These folks should try it, as ‘true’ fans they claim to be.
And as a fan I am not interested in his personal life. Just because it is HIS personal life.

I agree wholeheartedly with leiCa. I guess some individuals don’t know or understand the meaning of what a true fan really is. That’s unfortunate because it’s an insult to true fans. Here at this fansite we’ve got fandom down pat!! We share our thoughts and opinions and have some fun along the way. We love and adore Alex. That’s why we’re here.

You don’t know Alex? You mean I’ve wasted my time leaving messages here? I thought you were Alex! – JOKE! I’m only kidding. The point is, anyone can leave any kind of message. We all have people who love us and people who ‘hate’ us. Alex is a famous person, so the number of people who ‘love/hate’ him is larger. Hence, there will be more of both. That’s just the way it is. It’s all ‘just life’. No point getting worked up (or even pay any attention to people who say’ “You think…” – they’re about to tell you what you think, because they have magical powers of reading your mind, and you are so stupid, you don’t know what you think, so they will do you a favour and tell you what you think. I wish I had a $ for every time I had this in my life (it’s my job that gets me in touch with some amazing, and some nasty people). Oh man, iff I had a $ for every time someone said this to me, my student loans would be paid off. I’d be saving for a bigger apartment 🙂
In short, thank you and big hugs. Don’t let ‘haters’ (or envious people) get to you. That’s what they feed on 🙂

Being a fan, of Alex or of any other celebrity, should be a matter of fun, respect, and wholesome interest. Hatred and hostility should be out of the equation.
So here are the Do’s and Dont’s of a good fan:
Love the “Subject of your Adoration” (hereinafter SoA), as FOYeur so prettily expressed it, as much and as madly as you want. Or as much as your hubby will permit.
Respect their private life, even if they have decided to marry someone else than you.
Respect their professional decisions, even if it implies learning in a painful way what the words “waiting forever” really mean.
Bear with their flaws (beards, love for Japanese food and hard rock music, propensity to wear fedora hats, etc.). Nobody is perfect.
Listen to or read anything they say and find it witty, kind-hearted, intelligent, and wise. Do not waste your time in analyzing their words. No inanities can pour from their mouths, especially if they are AOL, who is witty, kind-hearted, intelligent, and wise.
Admire any part of their anatomy (eyes, mouth, sternum, legs, ass, spleen, kidneys, toes…) and think of what perfect statue Michelangelo could have sculpted had he had them as a model.
Do not disparage any other celeb. It is a pointless exercise. You know perfectly well that none can compare with yours. Be indulgent with the fans who are misguided in their choice of a SoA and are unable to appreciate the perfection of yours.
Never, ever show hatred, hostility, or animosity towards those who criticize or attack your SoA. While being grateful for your loyalty, your SoA knows how to defend himself without you having to act and write as a lioness defending their cubs.
If your SoA is Aloha spirited and wears T-shirts with “Only good vibes, please” written on it, do not forget, under any circumstances, to follow their example and philosophy. The world will be a better place to be.
Never forget that your SoA knows more about the sexual life of the African scorpion than about you, so enjoy him keeping Dante’s words in mind: “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”. Dante referred to entering Hell, but these words can be applied to those who have a SoA. That is, never nurture the hope they will find out your e-mail address and contact you with eager requests to meet you. This is not going to happen.
Do not listen to any gossip or unauthorized opinions regarding your SoA. Pay it the same attention you pay to the color of the socks your ironmonger wore on Xmas day. That is, none. Do not add fuel to the fire by commenting malevolently, even if you think that you are supporting your SoA by doing so, particularly if your SoA is a man of unquestionable integrity.
Have a good time enjoying your adorable SoA, and please make sure you do it through respectful, sound, no-nonsense, reliable sites like this one!

Funny and oh so true. Although I have to disagree with the toe-comment. And although Alex’ Steve has great toe control I have to say: they are still toes. And toes normally belong to FEET! Even if it’s SoA’s toe my feelings are that of normal, healthy people. I hate them. 🦶👀

Okay, leiCa, you don’t like toes in general. But have you had the opportunity to study Alex’s toes? I have not, but I’m sure they are beautiful, well formed, of the Egyptian variety, that are much more harmonious than Roman or Greek feet. Maybe Paula could find us a close-up picture of Alex’s feet. You may change your mind and start loving toes!

Absolutelly agree with you. But I think, many people just don´t want so called “celebrities” to be regular people because it would destroy their fantasys. Alex is probably a pretty good example for that. I remember the first interviews he did. He was very open and honest and said that he wanted people to be able to learn to know him (as a person). Several years later, he is not that open anymore (at least imo) probably because he realised that many people – even so called “fans” don´t care a sh*** about who he really is or what he wants and some even started to twist what he told earlier in his career. Result is, he is much more guarded now. I guess, that happens to any “celebrity” and it is very sad, but understandable. So no, celebrites are no regular people. The are not allowed to be regular people in many cases. And why should somebody care to grant them a right, to a private life then? *irony mode off*. I know, there are fans and other people who see them as regular people – just fellow human beings. Thank god for them. Alex´neighbours f.e. seem to be that kind of people because they accept his privacy and the privacy of his family and probably perceive him as just a good, decent man and neighbour. That´s good to know. I as a fan thank Alex for everything he told earlier in his career and for the things he is still willing to share because it made – and still makes – me like him a lot when I was trying to find out who the man behind the actor really is. Even though it´s just a small part of who that privat person, Alex, is. But “knowing” that part is awesome.

I remember one of Alex`”crazy” t-shirts (which I really liked) which said: “I was born to be awesome, not perfect”. That said it all. 🙂

I did not know about this T-shirt but the message on it is great. So like him! But I know that quote about the angelic side and the truth. We all know about his angelic side, and I have always wondered about ‘the truth’. What is ‘his truth’? When he hid his little sister’s doll when he was 7? When he has had a bad day at work and comes home in a fool mood? This man, imperfect as he is, cannot have a dark, shameful soul.

I´m sure, there is a truth. We all have our truths in our lives. He himself told some harmless/minor things in interviews which might be perceived as “not that nice”. Nobody is perfect. And you always need to know the circumstances. That´s true with everybody and everything. We have a saying in German: “Whoever sits in a glass house shouldn’t throw stones”. Treat your felllow man the way you want to be treated.
And just to make this very clear: I´m not out for spreading rumors. So PLEASE don´t see this post as an invitation to start spreading!

Of course we all have our truths, Alex included.
When I first read this quote, I found the sentence intense and powerful from a literary point of view, and the way he worded it immediately made me think of Heathcliff, probably because I had just finished re-reading ‘Wuthering Heights’ for the umpteenth time. Now, each time I read this quote, I cannot avoid having Heathcliff, with his tormented and dark soul, jumping to my mind. And much as I know Alex is imperfect and that he has his own minor “not that nice” things in his life, as we all do, “the truth” seems too brutal a term for him.
Please do not pay any attention to my literary delirium. I think it’s time I go out for a walk and clear my mind 😂.
BTW, I fail to see how anyone can think you are spreading a rumor. A rumor of what? Of Alex being a human being like the rest of us?

I don´t know Heathcliff. Sounds interesting. Maybe should give it a chance. That remark about “spreading rumors” was not aimed at you. But I´ve had the experience that people try to dissect everything Alex included. That´s not what I want and not why I wrote that comment. I just wanted to make that very clear.

You should read ‘Wuthering Heights’ and “meet” Heathcliff. There have been several movies based on this novel, and I’ve watched two of them, besides the original movie shot in the 40’s, but I have not liked them much. The actors portraying Heathcliff were not powerful enough. Now I know an actor who would be the ideal Heathcliff, who would regale us with a symphony of facial expressions and would be able to turn his velvety voice into thunders of sheer despair. Let me see… I can’t recall his name… Oh, yes, Alex O’Loughlin!

As I said once, Alex is doing much more than he thinks for us. It’s thanks to this Alex site that I discovered a very beautiful poem by Rilke, ‘The Panther’, that our leiCa had recommended. So even if he’s not in the spotlight for his work, he still ‘works’ for us!
And now tell me that Alex wouldn’t be an ideal Heathcliff!

First, thank you for your post. I always appreciate your hard work. And Happy mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas, aunts, friends and role models who raised us to be strong.
I guess I was hoping that the passage of a year would shake the fandom crazies from the trees on to unfertile ground where their seeds of hate could not reproduce. Apparently that time is yet to come. But still I hope because all things, even these seeds of hate will someday become extinct.
If you want to hurt someone, start a rumor, spread some gossip and perpetuate it until you draw blood. Then look in the mirror and see how ugly you have become.
I haven’t paid much attention to what is happening on social media recently because unfortunately real life got in the way.

I’m sorry to shatter your hopes, but the seeds of hate will never become extinct. Wickedness is inherent to Mankind. It is not so with animals, that kill to eat, or to defend themselves, their territories or their young ones, with no evil intention in their actions. They can also kill when they feel they’re in danger, and here is where you can find a similitude with Humans, which explains racism, genocides or religion wars, for instance. Anything different from our standards frightens us and so we fight, cruelly if need be.
But let’s stick to the fandom realm. All these nasty comments mentioned by FOYeur are from people who are frightened, that’s all. They have created a microworld for themselves in which they are in possession of the truth regarding Alex. Having had a flashing glimpse of Alex back in Sidney fifteen years ago, for instance, turns them into superior beings, the recipients of a Doctor Honoris Causa in Advanced Alex Knowledge degree, as opposed to these inferior gals who run a mere fan site. Hence the hatred and nastiness. They are simply defending their little crooked world.
And again, sorry, Mama, the people who ‘start a rumor, spread some gossip and perpetuate it until they draw blood’ never see how ugly they are when they look in the mirror. They think they’re smart and as they have a crappy mind, they are delighted with themselves and with their doing.
The only thing to do is to ignore these toxic persons (ignoring them drives them crazy with frustration!), and stick to people with a clean, healthy mind. It works.

I love who you are and I love this site! I followed a couple of other sites because I liked a few photos, only to quickly unfollow. I prefer the respect you embody to Alex, his family, his friends and co-workers and us the fans. Thank you for ALL that you do. 🥰

But I always think there are more good people than bad people in the world. More kind people than cruel people so maybe we need to acknowledge that those who tell lies and spread gossip and start rumors are really just lonely people looking to make themselves seem more important than they are. They look for satisfaction by doing these things so they can feel better about themselves but whatever pleasure they get momentarily does not last very long, so they try again- and again and again. Sooner or later they will come to realize that this behavior only makes them unhappy and perhaps seek a positive outlet for their boredom.

I think, it would be nice to watch him in a good character role. He is certainly powerfull enough to carry it. I haven´t finished the book yet but I know, how it ends. There seems to be no redeeming quality in that role. So I would love to see what Alex does with Heathcliff, if he was interested in doing that role at all. But I think, he maybe would portray it in a calmer, more subtle way – not acting out/overacting.

What Alex would do with Heathcliff? I’ll tell you what he would do and what would happen.
He would take the character to the next level and be the ultimate Heathcliff. No other actor after him could ever dream of outperforming him, or even of equaling him. Directors who have been toying with the idea of shooting their own ‘Wuthering Heights’ would have to abandon their project, aware that they’d never make a better version. Film critics would find that their vocabulary to praise his work was poor and ineffectual and would have to turn to leiCa to get some special words to describe his work. Oscarized actors would return their awards to the Academy, conscious of having received it without really deserving it, and they’d get down on their knees imploring Alex to teach them how to act, and there would be ugly fights among producers to have Alex in their productions. James Cameron and Steven Spielberg would be glued to their phones, waiting anxiously to receive a call from Alex accepting to shoot with them.
And we fans would be highly entertained by of all these fights over our Alex and have the immense satisfaction of looking down at all Alex’s haters, at all those who say he’s a minor actor living on his pretty face, and of saying “Of course he’s the best. We told you so long ago.”.
That’s what would happen.

I have to respond, after all I wrote a book inspired by H50, introduced a character because I thought that Steve McGarrett is 2D, and now I’m writing the second part, and planning the third part – it is a long story 🙂 (I’m not going to promote it here, but if anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me, it’s not a secret).
I have to start with a prayer, I hope no one will mind: Dear God, please give me such a pretty face that people use it against me! LOL! Sorry, I know, I know, it’s not about that, it’s about being valued, blah, blah, blah, still, please God give me such a pretty face that people hold it against me. From my perspective, it seems so bitter-sweet to have such a problem.
Back to the main topic – Alex as Heathcliff. I think he could pull it off, but I’m not sure I’d like to see it. Heathcliff is a ‘depressive character. He’s a great character and if I was writing him, I would use Emily’s spirit a lot more, after all she invented the character. But… I’d love to see Alex in a period drama, playing an Illyrian at the time of the beginning of the fall of the Roman empire. Of course, I’d love to see him play the character that I wrote, inspired by that pretty face (and more, besides the point), but your post got me thinking. I have another story, not inspired by anything H50, about a ‘cat-man- 0 a man who has 9 lives and each time he dies his spirit is with him and it is a personification of one of the 7 deadly sins. Eighth death is a bit of a plot twist, so it would mean playing 9 characters at the same time, including that one human who keeps changing each time he dies. nd that might be a challenge for an actor ‘with pretty face – LOL – this is going to make me laugh all day. Thank you. But, I will give it some thought… There are lots of cool characters, but I need to think before I suggest a character for Alex. After all, this is serious stuff. Please sense the sarcasm 🙂

So we have a writer among us! A pity we don’t have an updated address, or you could submit your 7 deadly sins play to Alex. Who knows? He might be interested, especially in Sloth, where there would no action and no possibilities for him to get hurt. I’d particularly love to see him impersonating Lust myself, and also Gluttony. Remember how he devoured food as Mick? Or that H50 epi, eating Indian food with Danny? He’s probably the only man this side of the Milky Way who can talk with his mouth full of food and lick his fingers noisily without me feeling revolted. I find him endearing instead, like a little boy on his birthday, stuffing himself with cakes and creams.
The Illyrian drama now… I think not. Their helmets were not very becoming, were they? But then, if I go by your name, I’m sure you know much more about the Illyrians and their garments than I do. Alex might just look amazing wearing a helmet with a broom on the top 😂! (No offense meant to any fan with Illyrian ancestors!)

I have never heard someone saying, he is a minor actor living on his pretty face. Probably because that person would be transferred to a nut house pretty soon and be locked away. 😀 – I had a good laugh reading your post. – Let´s do it, Alex. Drive Hollywood crazy. *g* ……. Just thinking about the 7 lives (read following post) . I´m always amazed to see how Alex changes voice and body language in his different roles. Simply changing facial expressions are not enough, right? 🙂 ❤

Sorry, I’m a little bit late to the Heathcliff party. I got a shot that kicked me where the sun does not shine (what is good, I know 😉 ) and a very very sick dog that was in the clinic for a few days. We still don’t know what it was but she’s better and a stubborn husky again.
So, Heathcliff. Oy. The memories. A lot, lot, lot Thursdays ago I read the book, that I am sure. But I really can’t say if I initially liked it or not, because: my sister loved it like crazy and annoyed the hell out of me. Thanks to Emily Brontë for writing just one book (I had not so much luck with Jane Austen and my sister…).
And I watched some of the movies. Some Heathcliff actors are still known but they could not pull it off. Not one bit. I will only mention Laurence Olivier, because I was told he was a pretty good actor and he certainly was (Loved Rebecca!), but his Heathcliff? I know it was Oscar nominated, but he was way too one sided for me.
Would Alex do it better? Hell, a big fat yes!
But I still don’t know if I would want him to do that role specifically. The film industrie tends to adapt those old stories into modern times and I hate that, because it never works (as a matter of fact I can only think about this story in black and white, that’s how my brain works ladies and gentlemen).
Heathcliff is not black and white, but he is a lot black and white. If you get me. He is all shades of grey (ugh, sorry), but then not really, he is not in between. He is either or. Love and revenge. You feel for him because of his fate and then you don’t feel for him at all. He is no hero, he isn’t even a antihero, he is just … Heathcliff. He is changing. You can’t really ‘grab’ him and that makes him interesting. I mean, he doesn’t even have a surname. 😉
So it would be awesome seeing AOL doing this, just because he could. He is the perfect bad guy, he is the perfect vulnerable man, he is perfect in portraying someone torn and tormented. And avid for revenge. But I don’t trust the film/TV industrie to do this right.
But then he could totally do a British accent.
And come to Europe to film it here.
My verdict:

I don´t trust the film industry in Hollywood either. It´s priorities are too often just sex and crime and violence and action and not good, solid acting or a decently made film. It´s certainly better over here in Europe.

First things first. I hope you and your husky have recovered completely from your ailments! Stroke her belly for me, will you?
When I think of Alex as Heathcliff, what I’m really thinking of is of Alex having the chance to show what he really can do. H. is a complex character who would be a challenge for him, but I can think of another character too, completely different from H., not as dark, more endearing, adorable, maddening, funny, smart and scholared, but having to deal with serious, dramatic issues.
In fact, I have a perfect movie for him. I even have part of the cast in mind (a pity Sean Connery passed away, he was in it), I know who should compose the soundtrack, who should direct it (Alex himself being my first choice), and the location are Honolulu and a Pacific island, such as Oahu. And I feel Alex would be interested (right age, he could go home every day to his family after work, book written by a renowned Australian author, lots of possibilities for him to display his talent, as the character goes from exhilaration to despair, from wrath to serenity, from manipulation to kind-heartedness, from strength to vulnerability…). I only lack the many million dollars needed to start shooting.
Like you and antjekreutz, I don’t trust any more the Hollywood movie industry. The number of duds they have produced over these past years is amazing, only worth being watched on TV on a Sunday afternoon. No original stories, poor dialogues, indifferent acting, dull music, overuse of special effects… Ugh!
Now MY movie would be thrilling, beautiful to the eye, gripping, thought-provoking, and Alex would shine as the star he is! Where is the money!!!!

Yeah, the stupid money. I have seen that several US films were financed through a crowd funding platform. I just don´t know whether this would work with a big, expensive film which would probably be the case if you hire famous actors and use special effects and stuff.

What’s the book? Sounds great and I don’t think I’ve read it. If you can do a good adaptation, you might be able to get a studio interested. In any case, I’d love to read that book. The character sounds fascinating. What’s the plot like?
So true about the money?!?! Oy! How did all the money end up in the wrong hands? Why isn’t it distributed better so there is more chance that ‘smart’ people would also have money as well as some lucky fools. 🙂

The book is ‘The Navigator’, by Morris West. The action takes place first in Honolulu and then in an unknown Polynesian island.
I took to this book from the first, because I love Hawaii and the Polynesian culture, and because it is a real page-turner. The first time I read it I devoured it, I could not read fast enough, and I was frustrated when I came to the last page. And the end is… Just like that: ellipsis.
I won’t tell you about the plot, as there are plenty of very good reviews on the Internet, but I suggest you read some of them. You’ll see then if you can like it or not. The Chicago Sun-Times qualifies the book as “Hypnotic from start to finish”, and according to the San Francisco Chronicle, “The Navigator is one of Morris West’s most exhilarating performances”.
It’s a book I had read many times before knowing Alex, but now I cannot read it without seeing him as Gunnar Thorkild (without a Norwegian blond mane, but who cares?), the main character, which is a bonus.
Polynesia + Alex is a perfect combination, my idea of Heaven 😍!

I think, getting a studio interested means, you´ll probably have to sell the rights if it is an original script which means you´ll have no say into the project anymore. And if you co-produce – I don´t know …. .It probably depends of the percentage you put your money in it. So I think, if you want to do your own projects, you either have to produce on your own or you´ll have to make sure, that projects comes out the way you want. Again I´m thinking of “Feed” (yes I know, I´m mention it over and over again and it gets boring). I wonder whether Alex will be able to do his own projects the way he wants somewhere in the future? I hope, he will.

I am truly flattered to see you think I am capable of achieving anything related with the movie business, but I know absolutely nothing about this industry. You, instead, seem to know much more than I do. I was only daydreaming, the way you “design” the house of your dreams, which an architect would demolish in five minutes with a myriad of technical objections.
I “see” the movie I’d love to watch when I read this book, but I’m sure a producer/director would find it’s impossible to shoot it: too long, or exorbitant costs, or wrong casting, or unsuitable music, and the list goes on. That’s why we are so often disappointed when we watch a movie based on a novel. It’s never like we’ve imagined it.
I expect Alex has his own projects, of course. As a man who knows perfectly well the movie/TV show business, and who is not in a hurry to deliver something, anything, I hope he will be able to surprise us soon with a top-quality product, as an actor, a director, a writer, or the three in one shot, I don’t care which. Fingers crossed to breaking point!

I don´t really “know” anything about film bussiness. I was just doing the maths based on what I read over the years which includes some law things which I need for my job which is strictly not film bussiness related.

Jane Eyre was my Bronte (Charlotte) book. I think I’ve read it a couple dozen times over the years and have seen several versions at the movies and on tv. And Alex would make a great brooding Edward Rochester.
I never liked Heathcliff, and completely loathed Cathy. Jane, on the other hand, was a wonderful, strong woman character.
This is just my take on the Bronte sisters and their male characters.
But I’m definitely checking out the West book.

A very good book indeed, and I have read it several times too, but both Edward Rochester and Jane Eyre are very serious, they keep their feelings for themselves, they live in a very conventional way, they are, in fact, very Victorian. There would be little challenge for Alex as Edward Rochester.
I won’t go as far as describing ER as a listless man, but he completely lacks Heathcliff’s passion. Sure, it’s an obsessive, unhealthy passion, but it takes him both down to the gates of Hell and to a distorted vision of a Heaven tantalizingly out of reach. And that means succulent actoral food for an actor who can master such a complex character. For Alex, in fact.
And I agree, Cathy is a loathsome character with a sick mind. As to H, as I now see him with Alex’s face, I have developed a soft spot for him 😂😂😂!

Hey, as long as we’re talking roles we’d like Alex to play: Thorn Birds! A book written about Australia written by an Australian; only this time they use an Australian cast. I can see Alex as Ralph. There are actually several meaty men’s roles.

Not bad… I thought period drama – worked for Russell Crowe in the Gladiator, Mel Gibson in Braveheart, Troy wasn’t covered well, so when it came to Brad Pitt and that movie, it didn’t work out so well. I think because a lot of people don’t get that to understand the Iliad, you must read it through the Odyssey. But how about ‘Antigone’ – not the way the Canadians did it recently, but as a period drama. Then again, there are many unexplored legends in Europe. Or, how about the Russians? They are not good at plotting, but they do great characters. One of my favourite books by Dosotoyevski is The Idiot – the main character is good and trusting and human though he’s a prince, and all these characteristics turn him into ‘an idiot’ because he lives in a rotten society that cannot accommodate these virtues. Then again, I’d love to try doing a screenplay for ‘The woman in White’ by Wilkie Collins. Such a page-turner, which means turning it into a screenplay would be one heck of a job, and I’ve got too many projects going on as it is.

If we’re doing period, how about Mutiny on the Bounty? But Alex as Bligh rather than Christian. Bligh, in my opinion, always got a bad rap. He was very progressive for his time. I think Alex could do a great version.
