#AlexOLoughlin and His Hawaiian Name

Over the years we have had a number of discussions about Alex’s Hawaiian name.

We first heard that it was Kekau, when Alex revealed it while he was live tweeting on the CBS account for Episode 4:01.

Until today we have not really been able to find a meaning for the name Kekau. And therefore there has been some feeling that Alex might have made a typo when he originally tweeted the name back in 2013.

My thought has always been that a typo can be possible, but that Alex is normally very accurate with things like names. I therefore doubt that a mistake was made. And unless Alex ever says that he typed incorrectly, I will believe what was said by him and will take the name Kekau as the correct one.

Lucky for us, this is what a busy little Bee found today on a site called NamesLook.

Of course we are not sure where they get all the information from, to update the site and how accurate it is, but this is what they had to say:

Meaning of Kekau:

Clever, Great Mankind, Strengthful

  • Clever is easy to understand and although Strengthful is a weird word for me, it seems to mean Strong.  But I am not sure what is meant by Great Mankind ?

Only Alex and the Kahuna who named him when he was blessed into Hawaii, will know if this is also the meaning of what they had in mind when they named him Kekau.

Maybe one day he will actually share that information with us all.

  • On the NamesLook site they also go on to say that the numerology of the name Kekau is 4 and then explains what that means.

I guess we all find what we want, in what they say in these type of descriptions. But whether one believes in such things or not, I actually found this description very interesting …..

Kekau name Numerology

  • Talent analysis of Kekau by expression number 4

“You are the bedrock of society, the foundation of any enterprise. You are an organizer and manager. Your approach to life and to problems is methodical and systematic. You are a builder and a doer. You turn dreams into reality. You possess a highly developed sense of structure. You enjoy management systems, and can carry out your well laid plans. You are not the type to embark on any trip without a map.”

  • Inner analysis of Kekau by heart number 9

“You want to be of service to the world. Your deepest satisfaction comes from knowing that you have advanced the cause of humanity. Your ideals are of the highest order. You are a perfectionist. You strive to make the world a utopia; to make each person’s lot in life better; to become perfect yourself. One of your challenges in life is to strive toward your lofty goals and at the same time recognize the good you are doing.”

  • Personality analysis of Kekau by personality number 4

“You radiate reliability and consistency. People trust you and feel secure with your judgment. You are seen as a cornerstone of a business and are relied upon to do your work efficiently and expertly. You have strength and respectability. You tend to dress in a utilitarian manner, concerned mostly with convention, practicality, durability, and price. You present yourself as someone who values correctness, control, and precision.”

Maybe some of the things mentioned here, can be compared to things said in interviews with Alex, and also in the words of what others have to say about him. What do you think?

And just for interest sake I also looked up my own name on the site as well, and it was kind of spot on for how I feel about myself. Of course I looked at the names Alex and Alexander and found the analysis of those two names also interesting.

But remember, this is all just for fun and not to be taken as gospel.

Remember being a fan is about having some fun with other fans. It is not about taking yourself, other fans or your subject of adoration too seriously.

Relax and enjoy the ride, even if it is with some rose tinted glasses along the way …….

    • I have really been enjoying all your discussions on here the past week.
Not only have we been missing Alex, but also the interaction from fellow fans.
When questions arise, I like to find answers – that is where most of everything on this site comes from. 🙂

      • Good job. 🙂 This site is a great source of information. When I became interested in Alex, it was (and still is) great to be able to read all those interviews and stuff. I also enjoy interacting with other lunatics like me. Maybe sometimes a bit too much. 🙂

My father wanted to name me Momi, which means Pearl in Hawaiian. (It was also the name of an old girlfriend.) Luckily, wiser heads prevailed. 😆

  6. You seem to be correct with the word “strengthful”. The dictionary says it means simply “strong”, “full of strength” but not only in a physical sense . The definition of “mankind” of what I found is: “Mankind is defined as all human beings.” or “men collectively, as opposed to womankind”.

  7. First of all: B is one brilliant detective ;-). I’ve never heard of this names-site.
So it was no typo on Alex part as he was tweeting his Hawaiian name (and no, before someone asks, Alex isn’t on twitter, wasn’t on twitter, won’t be on twitter, this was a one time occasion for 4.01).
I’m not much into this kind of stuff but I think the descriptions fit Alex.
Maybe ‘great mankind’ can be translated as mensch. In the meaning of ‘mensch’ as English speaking folks use it. In German Mensch just means human being with no ‘rating’.

    • Well said. I was surprised when I heard that English speaking people use that word “mensch”. I think, the first time I heard it, it was Alex who used it to describe Chi McBride. 🙂 Again my “obsession” with language was taking over. It´s funny, but it`s a bit difficult to really translate the meaning of the English use of “mensch” into German.

      • I was thinking (didn´t I say, I´m obsessed): “mensch” in the sense the English speaking people use it is very likely not German but jiddisch/Jewish. In German we mean the same or very similar when we say: “eine Seele von Mensch” which can be roughly translated into english as “a soulful man/a good soul”. And even that translation is not completely correct.
“Great mankind” seems to mean “an extraordinary man” – “someone who stands out of the crowd”.
Language is really fascinating, isn´t it?. I only speak German and English fairly well but I often realise that there are things, I can´t express in German but can express in English or vice versa (not so often English to German though.)

FOYeur, come on! Here is my ‘subject of adoration’, as you call him, described as a wonderful, awesome man, and I am not going to take it as gospel? You’re kidding me!

So “What’s in a name?”, to use Shakespeare’s words.

In such a lengthy description, you are bound to find many features that fit with the person called that name. In the case of our own Kekau, we have:

“You are an organizer and manager”. TRUE!
Time and again we have been told that Kekau was a natural leader, and a leader organizes and manages.

“You are a builder and a doer”. TRUE!
Kekau is a creative man (a builder), capable to transpose his dream into an audiovisual work (a doer).

“You want to be of service to the world.” TRUE!
We have multiple examples of his commitment with charities such as Taylor’s Gift, Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation, Sustainable Coastlines Foundation, Relay for Life, among many others, not to mention his involvement with organ donation acts.

    “You are a perfectionist.” TRUE!
He has said it himself. He does not know how to do anything if he does not put his heart in it. A non-perfectionist person just goldbricks and that’s it.

“You strive to make each person’s lot in life better; to become perfect yourself”. TRUE!
Let’s remember his own words:” Every night I lay in bed, and I go “Okay, what can I do differently tomorrow?”. You know, as a husband, as a father, as a friend, as a brother, or as a son. There’s always adjustments that need to be made, you know”. (Beautiful words indeed. Only for these you have to love him!).

“You radiate reliability and consistency. People trust you and feel secure with your judgment… You are seen as a cornerstone of a business and are relied upon to do your work efficiently and expertly.” TRUE!
CBS felt secure with his judgment and trusted him, which is why he became a producer, a writer, and a director. Unlike Scott, who was less and less interested in the show, he was constantly available and ready to put his heart in his work, no matter how poor the stuff he was given to work with was, and that made him a reliable asset to the show.

“You have strength and respectability.” TRUE!
His integrity has never been called into question, and we know, because he has said it himself, that he is a resilient (or strong), disciplined sort of person. As he is not giving to bragging, we can believe him.

I’ve checked ‘Alex’ and ‘Alexander’ as well, and he is equally described as an awesome man. Of course, I looked up my own name, and I am pleased to see that I am terrific, much, much more than I know I am. So maybe FOYeur is right after all, and we should not take this stuff about Kekau as gospel, though I will 😂😂😂!

    • Thank you – I was too lazy to get into it all.
But reading this and thinking about who he is and how he is, reminds me of why I even bother being here. He makes it worth the time and effort …..
And comments like yours, remind me that there are still those who GET it – the fun of being a fan.

The fun of being a fan!

Never before Alex had I been a fan of any celeb, except when I was a teenager, when I used to have a new crush every month. In my adult life, I have admired many artists but somehow have felt little interest for them except in their artistic facet. I have known what the media gave me about their personal lives but have never made any research to know more.

But Alex immediately triggered off my interest, who knows why. Much before I knew what a unique man he is, I started to surf the internet to find more about him. After some time, I found this site and the fun of being a fan began.

Alex is my hobby, in the best sense of the word. I mean he is not my means of entertainment, far from it! But he entertains me, because he is funny and witty, he does and share stuff that the people I know don’t do, such as BBJ or diving into the sea from a helicopter, for ex., and he says things that make me think, such as the bit about trying to be a better person day after day. And – let me be shallow- he is the most handsome and hottest man on the planet Earth. And that’s not my opinion. It’s a fact.

And, of course, there is the fun of all the fellow fans here, many of which have a great sense of humor. There have been enjoyable debates about the most trivial points concerning Alex (his beard, the color of his shirts or pants, the shape of his nose, his tattoos…), the hilarious Koala’s comments in the past, the really naughty, spicy comments of fans who have now disappeared, the passionate debates about ‘Cath Rollins: Angel or Demon’, the analysis of many H50 epis, so exhaustive that no professional analyst could have surpassed them… I could go on and on. And of course, all this masterly leaded by you FOYeur and Paula, who are not short on humor yourselves.

So yes, being an Alex fan is entertaining, and funny, and very gratifying!

    • Love your comment, because it’s … TRUE!
I read the descriptions and immediately thought about these quotes. Made me scratch my head because I really do not believe in something like this. But then, the name Kekau was given to him from people who know him and the ways he graces life and not to some for sure extremely cute looking little baby boy with terrific eyes.
So I looked up my own name and – well – some stuff is true, some is not true and some stuff my mother would hope is true. ~You should dress in a dignified and correct manner, caring for the details of your appearance.~ Bahahahaaa!
