Alex’s long time friend, the actor and acting teacher, Yure Covich, who graduated from NIDA with him, posted this wonderful message in July regarding Alex’s filming of this week’s episode. We kept it to post during this week for our build-up towards Episode 10:07.
From Yure on IG:
My best mate writer/director/actor (fancy hat wearer)🤣
There comes a time in this gig when the stoke you get for the people around you, and their accomplishments, far outweighs the stoke you get from your own achievements.
It truly is the best feeling ever.
Love ya homie!
Too bad you don’t get to keep the beard. There can be only one…only one.

In April 2015, Alex taught an Screen acting masterclass at Yure’s acting school in Sydney.
We never posted the few pictures and comments from the Screen acting class, and thought to do so now.
From two of the students of the day, actresses and twins Karina and Raechelle Banno:

It is really wonderful to see how one of Alex’s friends also get excited about his work as writer, and director and actor on this episode.
He truly is amazing, in every sense of the word! Love him, and you guys! Thanks!

If there is one thing I am good at it’s picking the right men.
For life and for fangirling.

Let’s recap: He’s intelligent, has a deep sense of humor, he’s kind, gentle, generous, humble and an animal lover and family man. He can ride horses and bikes, shoot, dive into the sea from a helicopter, fish trouts, fix a tap or a wall, cook meatballs, make surgical knots, extinguish bush fires, climb rock mountains, swim, drive cars and trucks. He’s a BJJ brown belt, he acts, writes, and direct. And now I hear he teaches! Have I forgotten anything? Oh yes, he’s hot, has a smashing smile, beautiful eyes with long lashes, a perfect nose and a velvety voice, OMG, what a man!
BTW, the book he gave Raechelle Banno, ‘Letters to a Young Poet’, is really beautiful. If you have time and like reading, don’t miss it!

The book is great (don’t know about the translation). It is amazing to see what multi-dimensional, sensitive, deep and artistically inclined person he is.
Rainer Maria Rilke said: “Ein Kunstwerk ist gut, wenn es aus Notwendigkeit entstand.” Means (please forgive me, I am no translator): ‘A work of art is good when it came out of necessity.’
I am pretty sure he wrote the script out of necessitiy.
(Oh and btw, about Rilke, if you haven’t read the poem Der Panther you haven’t read at all.)

I know this blog is about Alex, not a litterature one, but I will make an exception, FOYeur and Paula permitting. I have to thank you deeply, leiCa, for drawing my attention to Rilke’s poem ‘The Panther’, which I did not know. It’s beautiful beyond words. Thank you.
My thoughts to Alex too. It’s indirectly through him that I’ve come to know this little jewel of poetry.

I have looked into many things because of Alex’s interest in it over the years.
On the one hand it is usually great to experience it as well.
And on the other hand it gives a bit more insight into who he is, by seeing what he holds dear.

Very well said! I got to know so much new stuff because of Alex, not only things but great people too!
And you are so right, look at the books someone likes and you can tell who he is!

‘He (Alex) wrote the script out of necessity’. You may be right, you know. Maybe Alex has got fed up with weak scripts and has felt an urge to do something about it.

Or he was just so fed up with all the forgotten storylines on the shelf that he wanted to go back to the essence. Back to what the show is about: The McGarrett family story. He said so in an interview. And he is so right. They lost track of what the show is about, filled it with cringe-worthy silliness, forced buddy-ism and a dannoying sidekick that makes me want to punch the screen.
Family/Ohana does not consist of constant, neverending complaining and insulting.
