Alex O’Loughlin spotted on the set filming some scenes for Hawaii Five-0 Season 10.
Of course the official filming of Season 10 only start on the 17th of July in Hawaii, but there were some scenes shot in LA on Monday. According to someone who shared a picture, Alex wrote and is directing this episode. Not sure if it is the first episode for the season. I guess we will get some more information at a later stage. Hope there will not be too many spoilers about it though.

Things are moving at last! We knew more or less that Alex would be directing. This confirms it. I have two questions though. Has he actually written this epi, or only devised the story/plott? The difference is important. And will he act in S10 or remain behind the camera?

I doubt if Alex will be a full time writer or director.
Writers are based in LA and I presume the salary is a lot less than those of main cast actors – would not really be a good career move then
Directors change with each episode on TV Shows. – so he can’t be full time director n H50.
And I doubt if he will be a full time producer – we will have to see about that. That would be a totally different contract with the studio.
So to answer your question – I doubt if he will move away from in front of the camera, to just behind the scenes full time. 🙂
But of course we will have to wait and see what the future on set will be like.

Writing is a specific skill set. He may have the idea and write the bones of the story but it’s likely that polishing it for the screen will be done by the professional staff. Nor will he be given Carte Blanche to take the story in any direction other than what the EP intends. But that’s just my personal opinion.
As for directing, I am hoping that if H50 ends, he will be able to direct some episodes on Magnum PI which allows him to remain home with his family, the place I believe he really is happiest.

There is always polishing of a story, in this case I am pretty sure it is a stand alone story.

Doing some writing and directing might be a way for him to make the transition to other projects. I also wonder if it is really necessary to be based in LA to write. A word processor and Skype should be enough to keep in touch with the rest of the team. My humble opinion.

I meant, writing on a full time basis.
Writing one or two scripts during the season might be easy to do from Hawaii, but not on an ongoing basis, I would think.
Like I said before – everything is just speculation and thoughts until the season starts and we see how things pan out in reality.

I am pretty sure he has actually written this episode, not just the storyline like with 8.24. According to a post of PLenkov some weeks ago, Alex is his latest writing recruit. 😉

But I don't see less grey, just the beard a little bit more in shape.

The man has cleary a dilemma with his hair system. Either he is clean shaved with a buzz cut, like in S8, or he has a long beard with tousled hair, like now. I’ll love him no matter what, but the clean shaved/tousled hair option is my favourite. A pity I’ve no say in the matter!

Apologies, he does have the grey in his beard. Sorry. The photo at the top looked like the grey was gone. I love him tousle haired and clean shaven too, although that guy can grow one sexy beard! Love the longer hair, Alex has gorgeous sexy hair.
There are great videos of filming the Festival of the Dead–a perfect place for undercover Steve McGarrett to hide, in the middle of a huge festival celebration.

Alex is so multi-talented. I’m happy that he has these new opportunities. Anything to stave off boredom, and keeping those creative juices flowing. I
just hope we will continue to see Alex in front of the camera, as well.

Great videos and still photos from this shoot in LA are showing up on twitter sites. Weird and wild scenario! I don’t know if they’re supposed to be in Mexico or at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. People are all dressed up in strange costumes. Peter did post on his Twitter and Instagram that this episode is written and directed by Alex.
We don’t know if this is out of sequence or if this is the Season Ten premiere episode. In one video, one of the directors is speaking to the extras in a scene. They look like they might be in a night club. He says, “You’ll continue to do what you’re doing. Steve McGarrett will be moving through the crowd under cover.”
Hmmmm, maybe that beard is part of his under cover disguise!!?!!

I just saw another video from the filming. They’re at the “Festival of the Dead” in Mexico. I thought that’s what it looked like. It’s really exciting to see all this filming! GO ALEX!!!!! Hmmm, did Steve McGarrett FAKE his death to go undercover to finally solve a crime?

I love the fact that his multiple talents are being given the opportunity they so justly deserve. It’s a beautiful thing as he is. I’m excited for him and anxiously looking forward to seeing the fruits of his labor.

Maybe it is something to do with Doris? Perhaps the actress has difficulty coming to Hawaii because of other commitments so filming something in L.A. may work out better. I m hoping to see her again. She is such an amazing talent and the character needs to stay alive for Steve to the very end of the series.
Or I could be wrong.

I hope you’re right. With Joe dead, Catherine gone, and his practically non existent sister, Steve has only his mom left in his personal life, even if she drives him crazy all the time. And I love Christine Lahti. She is excellent in this role.

One thing (among the other million little things about this show) that bothers me is that besides the possibility of Doris dying, how will Steve react if Jerry dies taking a bullet meant for him? He already blames himself for Joe’s death, so if he didn’t consider the possibility that Hassan’s wife could not to be trusted, how much further can this character be pushed before he breaks? Or will this perhaps lead to finally dealing with PTSD, about which the writers have long hinted but subsequently ignored?

Not a bad idea! After all, Alex IS Steve and he should be entitled to decide how to “end him”. It’d be rather interesting to know what he would decide. A happy end with Cath? A vey heroic death to save the world? A quiet retirement to enjoy surfing? Place your bets!

The Magnum PI cast held a public blessing ceremony on Monday, July 8 to begin their 2nd season shooting. I wonder if we’ll see one for Hawaii Five-0?

Maybe the filming they did two weeks ago in LA allows them to push back the schedule a bit. Interesting. I just saw another video yesterday showing both Alex’ and Scott’s doubles filming a scene where they’re running in to a building in Hawaii followed by a group of HPD cops. So, that should tell us that Steve is alive and well, busy catching criminals in Season 10.
