#H50 Season Finale – Are the Grey Cargos Telling Us a Story?

If you have not seen last night’s H50 Season 9 finale yet and don’t want to be spoiled with what happened, you should probably stop reading now …..

These screencaps are just to illustrate a bit of the story, and Paula will do a post with better quality pictures at a later stage.

Producer Peter Lenkov promised a surprising awful cliffhanger to the season – and for some it might be just that!

What happened:

A woman pointed a gun at Steve who is walking away from her. Jerry is walking in towards Steve and he can see the woman behind Steve.

Jerry screams “Gun!”. It fades to black with the shot fired and you can hear Danny who is behind her saying, “Oh my god!”

My crazy observation from the epsiode:

Steve on his first job in Hawaii was wearing the lighter grey cargos and now Steve doing his last job in Hawaii, once again after many seasons wearing lighter grey cargos? We know it was not the exact same pair, because there are some differences to it, but did they want to be poetic about it all and have Steve McGarrett say goodbye in a similar pair of pants??

Seven weeks left until they start shooting Hawaii Five-0 Season 10, and for us to see who will be back on set for that. But I am kind of sure we will get some indication of what will happen even before then. Will Alex leave the show or not? And if he stays, in what capacity?

We will keep you updated with any news about the matter.

Alex isn’t leaving the show. He signed a two year contract at the beginning of S9 taking him through S10 as did Scott. I’m betting that Jerry was shot bc Steve getting shot in season finale’s are getting a little predictable.

    • Hi Susan
Can you please provide me with the detail of the link where it was said that Alex (and Scott) signed a two year contract in the beginning of S9. Can’t recall now if I ever saw it and where that might have been?

      Maybe nobody got shot?
I doubt if Jerry was shot as I see no reason why Jorge would want to leave the show, unless he’s got some other project already signed

Hi, sorry I didn’t see that on a link of any kind. But Alex & Scott did sign contracts. I don’t know about Jerry or anything with him but I saw on a site he had projects going on and hasn’t signed a contract yet. I have no idea if that’s true or not.

        • Without any real official evidence, it sounds more like fan rumours or hearsay to me that contracts from both those actors were signed for Season 9 and 10. I would prefer a definite official article or interview that confirms it is so.
In general we prefer to promote true facts. It might be true, but saying it is so on the speculation of others is not really the truth for me.

  2. I’m not worried. It’s not 5-0 without Steve and I can’t even believe they would have to bring him back to life once again with a serious injury. I’m sure it was Jerry who got shot and we’ll have to see if it was fatal. I kept feeling Aaron would show up at the storage facility and kill Jerry so maybe that’s why I feel this way.

Thanks as always for the recap and pretties. And thanks for the details you always provide. I never would have even thought about the pants – ha!

    • Not that I will be watching, but I actually think that H50 can survive without Steve.
We here love Alex and that is why we feel that way I think, but many other viewers watch for other characters and the show in general.

      • I haven’t seen any of S9 epis yet, but if this one was the finale and Steve is not going to come back, he surely would have had a magnificent farewell story, and it doesn’t seem it was so if I go by what you comment. Ergo Alex will be back, grey cargos or not. Just my opinion.

      • Another opinion: The show in general is no longer what it was, and if the audience rate has been steady throughout the years, with old characters gone and new ones now appearing, I doubt it can go on being a succes without its backbone, aka Alex. H50 cannot survive without him.

        • Totally agree. Alex is the glue that held the show together over the years and made all the bumps in the ride bearable. I’m watching the show with someone who is not a ‘fangirl’ (Lol, hope he doesn’t read this), but he always said what a pretty good actor Alex is, how different he is in all his roles (and Mr. leiCa had to watch nearly all of AOL’s stuff, nearly, because he still refuses watching Feed, he’s such a wuss 😉 ) and how charismatic he is on the screen. And although he loves Chi McBride he wouldn’t watch one minute without AOL (his words.).

    • Oh, and the cargos, was just to add some fun and see it from some carzy fangirl perspective 🙂
And I remembered my post where I said how we first met the cargos. https://alexoloughlinintensestudy.wordpress.com/2013/02/17/undressing-steve-episode-101-hawaii-five-0-pilot/

I think it might be that woman’s kid that got shot because it looked like she shoved the kid towards Steve. I don’t think she was intentionally trying to shoot the kid, but that maybe the guys all grabbed for the him and she just opened fire. Steve not being suspicious of her was out of character for him and therefore annoyed me. He would have seen right thru that when Jerry told him about the phone call. Steve would not think he needed to be forgiven by her or anybody else.
If Jorge is leaving, I’m totally fine with that. Jerry should have been a one off character or they should have kept him the way he was originally. He kind of became the pathetic mascot this supposedly elite task force had to take pity on.

    Like

    • Hi DoubleL
To me it looks more like she shoved the kid sideways – out of the way. And also either he must be jumping high or somebody lifted him up, for her to aim that high and shoot him. To me it even lookes like she is aiming even to high for Steve.
I have other problem with the the woman’s motive and what and how she did it, but I will elaborate more about that in our actual post about the episode.
I like Jorge’s Jerry, because I like conspiracy stories. I think Jerry showed over the years that he is not just a pathetic mascot and he had better stuff to do that some of the lead characters.

Ok, time for me to bitch.

For some reason, no woman who is a mother gets portrayed as anything but selfish regarding her children’s welfare. And last night’s Mommy from hell took her kid to a shootout instead of the playground.. I hope the child was not hit because Steve won’t come back from that one easily.

This is so out of line for the women I know who would move mountains to protect their kids.

I don’t think anyone is leaving next season.

Maybe that’s not really her kid. Maybe she just “borrowed” him.
I think you’re right about no one leaving.

Also thought about that – the kid being borrowed.
I will have a look at the previous episode to see if it was him. But then again they can always just use another kid for a role as they have done numerous times with Joanie.

Did no one even consider the possibility that she would be shot dead in front of that child because Danny or Grover probably had to take her out before she killed everyone there. We will just have to wait until September. But I just don’t understand the writers motives on this one unless they were trying to make the point that the woman wanted to show her so how to carry on a vendetta so he can take over when his is an adult. A better way would have been to leave the child in someone else’s care since there was a good possibility she was not going to survive a gunfight with an elite task force.

I was feeling very unsettled after it finished.

          • There are so many plotholes in her motive and how she excecuted it. Even if they don’t shoot her, she will go to prison and then both the parents of the boy are in prison – for life most probably. NO way she could get away at that moment with police alll around her.
What sort of a person will do that to take revenge for a father in law, which she never knew? It just does not make sense. Only used as a plot device to produce a cliffhanger…..

Just saw John Wick 3 and guess who had a major part? Our old friend Wo Fat!

As for Alex not coming back or only being there part time, I don’t think so. It’s his show and he seems to be pretty happy with it. If he was shot, it will be like the time he got shot in the liver. He was back good as new.

    Interesting show, scary but interesting.

  6. Just a thought… maybe she brought the kid because she could stash the plastic gun on him because he wouldn’t be searched or even suspected to have a gun. I also want to know why Danny had to lie to Steve about going to New Jersey. Sometimes, actually lots of times, things make no sense on that show.

Naw, Steve ducked when he heard “gun” and maybe Jerry got shot instead That was a very strange and contrived plot twist for the season finale, for this woman to appear out of the blue and ask to personally see Steve. It was totally out of character for Steve to trust her, and especially to walk in front of her, unprotected. That was weird. Where was your SEAL spidy sense, Steve?

If she did shoot Steve, he’ll survive. I think everyone will be back next year, alive and well. At least I hope so. I’ve grown to really like this entire crew. Jerry does awesome computer for them, often providing the clues that crack the cases. And I love conspiracy theories too, FOYeur!! Jerry provides good comedy relief, but he’s excellent t his job.

I think everyone will survive. This was a decent episode, but the ending was just off. For Steve to trust that woman seemed out-of -character. The cynical, all-business Steve from Season 1, would have been more cautious, I think.
Too long away from active SEAL duty.
On the other hand, it isn’t like we’re not used to the writers doing weird/dumb
    things.

No need to borrow trouble and upset yourself. There has been no indication that AOL is leaving, and I think the show will continue as long as he wants to do it and CBS wants to pay for what must be a very expensive show. As long as it makes money for the network, that will always the bottom line.

But I am wondering if Danny is ready to turn in his badge in S10, as he appears in even fewer episodes and reconciling with Rachel seems like a very good bet. I am happy for their children. Danny hasn’t been essential to the dynamic of H50 for some time and the show will go on without him. I never even miss him or notice he’s not there anymore. The bromance seems to have died a long time ago.

The writers can’t craft awesome stories for someone who’s not there.

100% agree with you mamayorkie. I look for Danny and then forget about it. The crew never mentions why he’s not there. Life and work go on. The cases need to be solved. The bromance died two or three or seasons ago. Now Danny and Steve are cold, critical or indifferent towards each other and the car rides are largely silent.

How did that woman get through security with a gun in her bag? It seems unrealistic that Steve would meet with her. I think (and hope) that Alex comes back for another season. The show has gone down hill, but I still love seeing Alex on TV every week.

My questions too! How did that big honking pistol ever get past the metal detector? Why would Steve ever want to meet with her? Very contrived, unrealistic plot device to create a suspenseful season finale. I wish I’d heard TWO gunshots, one of them hitting her.

      Liked by 1 person

      • It is a plastic gun. One of those made by 3 D printers I guess.
I can see that Steve want to promote peace with somebody and give them a chance to do it.
But I also think it was and unrealistic plot device – to create some drama.
Fact is, they left it very open for anything to happen when the new season start, More shots etc.

Duh, you’re right, 3D printer gun. The last scene is 100% open-ended. Anything can happen. I thought it was Jerry yelling “gun” since he was in front of Steve and looking directly back at the woman. If Steve drops to the ground and she miss-shoots, she could hit Jerry instead, or hopefully hit the wall.

So it’s the set-up for the premiere episode of Season 10.

    • I can’t believe it but now you made me scroll through my S9 screens. And I think he was wearing these pants in episode 20 too.
For your poll, I am sure Steve survives unharmed, and I doubt Jerry will die. At least I hope so. I like Jerry, he was great in this episode and he is more useful than some other so called Elite Task Force member.

      • You are most probably right about the pants in epi 20 and he most probably wore it in other episodes as well. I have not watched many of the episodes of this season more than once, like I used to in the other seasons. You guys who take screenshots would know better.
The post was all just for a little but of fun 🙂

New theory. No one was shot. Watched Danny rush at the Bad Mama so maybe he deflected her aim and the wall needs to be repaired instead. I prefer this to having the child witness his mother shoot and kill someone or be shot and killed herself herself. THAT would be the real crime.

I like your theory. She missed and hit the wall. How could you do that with your beloved son right there with you?

    • Not so much a theory as a hope.
I see Hawaii Five-0 on twitter decribe that last scene as – A lot of courage. #H50
I find it appaling that they call it that. Or otherwise I misunderstand their post of that clip.

Rest of my theory. Show goes on at 8PM and there is no way the network allows the child to be traumatized by his mother killing or being killed or the viewers to be subjected to it. Therefore, it is Danny who fulfills the ” Paley Center tease” about a beloved character perhaps not returning After seeing this horror unfold he may no longer want to be a cop (and Rachel doesn’t want to be married to one either). I think he comes back on occasion. And if S10 is really the end, especially in view of the time change, he theoretically goes out with the show as an original cast member, even if he is rarely seen during the season. i can live with this scenario.

So, nobody dies but someone “sort of” leaves to make room for the new cast member whose arrival in S10 was also “teased”. ( I hope it’s Harry!)

        • kathysr

Hmmmmm, very interesting theories. I don’t remember the “teases” at the Paley Center event, but your theories are very plausible. Yeah, the time change is telling—sort of a slow “farewell” year for 5-O. The network wants to build up Magnum, PI because it’s a new show.

Harry our favorite Brit? Oh, that would be nice! Not sure they could get the actor as a regular cast member, though, but he can come back anytime!!
