#AlexOLoughlin – Going Bare (Down Under)

Last week we made a little ‘study’ of Alex with untied shoes. This week we will have a look at him going barefoot. It is kind of understandable that he would be barefoot in some shoots in Hawaii, but even before that he showed the freedom to go bare .

TV guide shoot – 2009

Season 1 – 2010

  • We can’t really see Alex’s feet, but I am kind of sure he is barefoot in that water.

GQ magazine – 2011.

  • Yes look closely under his bum, you will see the bare foot. That is of course if you can get past the sideways glimpse of the back tattoo.

Hawaii Five-0 promo shoot – Season 2

  • Even with a suit he dares to go bare

Season 5 Promo shoot

Hope you once again enjoyed all the pretty pictures of Alex – and his bare feet ……

Before we end this post, I just want to clarify something. From the comments we got on the last Hawaii Five-0 post from Paula, I got the feeling that some think I will not be around anymore. Not so. What Paula meant was that I have just kind of given up on wasting my time to say anything about the show and the latest episodes. Most of the time I do not even want to have some fun by joking about it anymore. The ridiculously “manufactured” arguments, about forced and  out of character stuff, between Steve and Danny make me cringe. The fan service of it all and also this latest “restaurant” venture and the ill scripted arguments around it, all just show a lack of creative vision from the writer/producers of this cop show. Not to mention such trivial ridiculous stuff such as diamonds spilling from a guy’s wounds in his abdomen, minutes after he swallowed them. I know it is not about realism and neither it is a documentary …. but really, can they just not make it all total unbelievable BS.

I also want to have some distance from the horrible rudeness in the Hawaii Five-0 fandom on social media, mostly instigated and driven by a group of “super fans” and their shipping cronies who think that they are entitled to pass judgement on what others do and say. Mostly for things that they and their close (shipping) friends are actually more ‘guilty’ of than anybody else. It is not really our policy to block people on social media, but at the end of last year I decided to banish on twitter most of those who “steal” our fun and enjoyment and also those who by their comments affiliate with those who do. It kind of made me sad to see people that have been with us from the start, listen to and follow demands of those advocating boycotts towards us for trivial stuff – mostly because of issues that they know nothing about. And I must say fangirl life is so much better for it. Now I can just enjoy the humour and good fun of the many who are still around on our timeline.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy most of what Alex do on the show, and because of that I will not stop watching it. For me Alex is still doing a great job being Steve. Every week he brings his A-game, showing us Steve McGarrett in all his facets. I also think that the show this season in general, is somewhat better than the previous 3 seasons and it still provides me with some entertainment. The new characters bring a good freshness to the show. Unfortunately I think the 3 local full-time cast members are not being used to their full potential yet. I just struggle to get excited about any of it anymore. I guess it has been that way for me since they made a mockery of the seriousness of a liver transplant.

Of course, because Alex is Steve at the moment, we can not really ignore the show in total. And of course many of you still enjoy the show and would like to see things from it. For those reasons we will try to bring you as much pretty and maybe hopefully some fun posts about Steve from the show – maybe some like the old Orgasmometer posts again.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we will intensify our focus even more closely on just Alex, his public life and his work (present and past).  Hopefully many of you will still enjoy what we do. And a big Thank You to those who stuck around during the quiet times and over the holidays.

Hello ladies, your website is awesome. Love all the stories and photos. I might not make any comments, just know I think you’re all wonderful. Mahalo for all your hard work on reporting everything ALEX. XXOO

Two big feet,,,er,,,thumbs up Paula. Thanks for the humor and all the lovely gifs.

I’m new here but I’ve belonged to other sites that were destroyed by humorless trolls who think the “honor” of an actor must be guarded by them. Weird and sad.

Words right of my heart. You’ re so right. I never liked this bromance at all and it’ s getting worser….and meaner.
Poor Steve, how can a friend be so rude all the time.
I would enjoy aSeason 9 , if Alexs health is ok and maybe without Danno, can’ t he open a restaurant in New Jersey

I totally agree about the stupid arguments, (I usually fast forward through them, because I record all the shows on my PVR/DVR.) Most of the time they are not necessary and yes the Danny character is not a nice person, he’s always on the defensive and will blast Steve for no reason. I guess it’s part of the character, but enough is enough. I almost think Steve doesn’t need Danny anymore. Alex could carry the show with the rest of the cast, with Danny showing up once in awhile, because he’s back in Jersey opening his restaurant.
BTW I never thought would leave this site, same with Paula, you ladies are the best. XXOO

Alex is practically carrying the show anyway, I think, at least where his sidekick is concerned. Even when Danny is in an episode, he’s often shown very briefly. If Scott and Alex are being paid equally, Scott sure has a good deal going for himself. (sarcasm)

  5. Although I am mostly just a lurker, I have to say now, I for one would really miss what you guys do if you were to stop, so I am really glad you aren’t going anywhere. 🙂

As far as the restaurant venture, the last episode I almost got excited with the thought they were going to give up on it..but no, and then it seemed like the rudeness and accusations were going to stop about who’s fault it was they had been robbed, which I was again happy about, if only for a moment, for no..they had to end it with an exchange that was not entertaining in the least. *sigh*

Thanks, Foyeur. I love this site. I hope you and Paula can continue with it, for as long as we have Alex in our lives.
For myself, the bickering between Steve and Danny got old really fast., like Season 2. I would be happy if it ended altogether. I don’t understand why fans think two grown men arguing like a couple of six-year olds fighting over a toy, is funny. Unfortunately, Lenkov has decided this is their ‘thing’, and the writers who are often bereft of ideas, wouldn’t know what else to do with them. It’s their go-to. Just my opinion, of course.

Thank you for all you do. Alex is the best. I wish they would stop the restaurant plot & arguments as they are mean spirited. I also wish Jenny Feldman would show up & that she would turn out to be a local Asian actress. Maybe Steve & she could start up a renewed romance. Maybe they should show Steve’s high school reunion.

Alex often talks about the energy of the land and the people in Hawaii, he can feel a connection to that energy, when he’s not so busy and he takes time out to spend on the more natural landscape like where they did the CBS Watch photo shoot. His ability to physically feel the energy of a place will (probably) play a part in the reason he goes barefoot a lot. Probably other reasons in addition – his feet will be so hot after spending all day in Steve’s combat boots in Hawaii’s soaring temperatures and humidity, maybe he doesn’t like having his feet confined. Whatever the reason.

As someone who is quite spiritual myself (an empath, Wiccan and a witch), I can also feel the energy of the world, among other things. When you have that gift, you tend to want to and/or need to have your feet in direct contact with the earth as much as possible, almost subconsciously. It just doesn’t feel right having a barrier between your feet and the ground, at least that’s the way it feels for me. I get antsy & agitated if I can’t be barefoot for hours on end. I feel more at peace without footwear, more grounded, calmer, happier.

It’d be interesting to know if he feels similar things to what I experience or if there’s more to it, or less to it for him. Who knows, maybe I’m reading too much into his habit of going barefoot and perhaps he doesn’t even notice he does it so often! It’s one of many intriguing aspects of why people do what they do, that I just love to try and figure out.

If given a choice (and wherever I’m walking is free of non-foot-friendly things like broken glass, bird poop and other disgusting things that one can find on the ground), I’d rather be barefoot 99% of the time. I used to get in trouble all the time at work for walking around the office barefoot, and even walking around outside the building barefoot. I just used to say I accept my liability and if I’m feeling agitated because my feet aren’t directly on the ground, trust me it’s bad for everyone lol. They stopped bugging me about it in the end and just accepted I needed to do it. I’m sure they thought I was nuts, but that’s fine by me!

Alex does have nice feet though from what I can tell in some photos. Is there any part of that man that isn’t appealing?!

Very interesting! Both about your life, and your surmises about his. Can I ask, what does it say about me that I’m uncomfortable going barefoot? I like soft, squishy, comfortable shoes…but neither hard shoes, high heels, or bare feet. Does that mean something? 🙂

Being practical is important to you, not at the expense of comfort but rather practicality brings you emotional/mental comfort that may be lacking in other areas. Being able to to get on with things without unnecessary distractions that pull your focus away from the immediate task/journey. Physical vulnerability brings emotional vulnerability easier than you’d like so you tend to take more comfort in your surroundings when there are more soft furnishings like cushions, throw pillows, blankets/throws etc; soft & fluffy things enhance your ability to feel warm and fuzzy and at your best. Wouldn’t surprise me if you own a onesie or a snuggie and a furry or fuzzy pair of slippers that you literally live in around the house.

Of course I could be talking out my butt and you just either don’t like your feet to be uncomfortable, cold nor exposed lol I’m interested to know whether I hit or miss on my read of you!

OMG you’re good! I hate being cold on any part of my body…I hate cold! But I do totally love all my pillows on my couches and beds, and I have a stack of little blanket throws in our family room, and myself and our chihuahua sit in there under them alllll the time! And I have a big ol thick soft terrycloth bathrobe. And I absolutely have soft fuzzy slippers, which I wear even in summer. LOL! I’m apparently the opposite of Alex. Hee!

I always feel badly when nice people are attacked because they have a different opinion about make-believe characters and then let the argument devolve into a personal vendetta against those who do not agree with them.

H50 has a lot of good things going for it. It also has a lot of bad things that some super fans embrace, not because they they think they are valid and worthwhile, but because they are afraid to risk alienating some of the twits with whom they interact.

This site has integrity. We can say what we think politely, without going for the jugular. I only post here and on Mostly, since I know of no other sites which attract smart people who can think independently and don’t behave like bitchy teenagers.

    Glad you are sticking around.

Ladies the work you’re doing is awesome. I don’t comment much but I really enjoy this site and your work. I want to say THANK YOU and be sure you know it’s most appreciated!
I think S8 is entertaining so far except the sometimes ridiculous banter and the way Danny is treating Steve. Having such a friend? NO thank you! All this negativity and rudeness from Danny gets on my nerves. There are so many grumpy and rude people in real life I don’t need them in the show.
I’m totally fine with Scott doing less episodes and if I’m honest I don’t miss GP or DDK (I’m still mad that DDK made his leaving the show a racial thing and people blamed Alex for it) either. The new cast brings fresh air into the show and I really like it … but this is just my opinion.

I’m really enjoying the show this year, except the restaurant story line, which I don’t enjoy at all. I don’t miss GP or DDK. Grace was just phoning it in the past few years and both of their story lines had grown stale. The new cast members bring new life and energy to the show.

The restaurant story line: WHY? If you look at the interior of the restaurant from episode one to now, there’s no progress at all!! The interior is just as unfinished as it was four months ago. Why in the world would two human beings who basically work 24-7, 365 days a year in their careers EVER think they could possibly create and run a restaurant? Danny and Steve, what are you thinking? Who took a HUGE loan to start this project? Where in the world did they get the money?

In the next episode, Danny’s uncle from New Jersey shows up to help out. lol, there’s some inference that he maybe in the Mob. Let’s see where this goes. I’m hoping he either (1) Tells them this is a terrible idea and urges them to sell to someone experienced in running restaurants, or (2) takes over the project and lets them be silent investors in it.

  12. Bravo! Well said. After six weeks without real internet (smart phone doesn’t count as such) I have realized that I have a lot more fun with the show by just enjoying it without wasting my time with reviews for subpar episodes.
I still enjoy Alex as Steve immensely, but that, for me, is not enough to invest my time in the show like I used to.
I love all your posts, and hope you will continue as long as Alex is on the show.
Thank YOU for always proving good entertainment.

The pic of Alex in the blue suit and bare feet is one of my favorites. The only thing better than him being bare-footed is when he is bare-chested. Need more of that. Resting..maybe in bed. Oh, my. I am so bad! I wish they writers would get back to Steve the Navy SEAL. Is he even still in the military? That is the Steve that I love. The restaurant story is just so much nonsense. Neither one of them is retired. How in the world would they have time to run this place?

So glad to hear that you two are not leaving us! If I could change some things about Season 8, it would be that Grover and Steve are more together as a working pair, and let’s get back to Steve’s private life. Where is Doris, Joe, Michelle, and Lynn? I am looking forward to episode 18 where Alex is the director. I would love to see him write an episode as he knows the characters and story line better than most of the other writers. I love Alex!

dq….. I agree the man can certainly wear a suit. Every time I see Alex in a suit I practically melt into a puddle of goo.

Steve is still a reserve in the Navy as far as we know – I wonder how long they Navy keeps people on reserve and whether they eventually cut their losses and discharge, or perhaps Steve would have to resign his commission or something. Wish I knew more about how the Military works. But you know what they say – once a SEAL, always a SEAL. I adore SEAL Steve & kevlar Steve in equal measure – they both fall under the category of Badass Steve to me which is just ❤ ❤ ❤ so damn irresistibly sexy.

The last pic is from the ep with James Caan, right? I love that episode in spite of Alex’s obvious ill health. For me, season 2 had the best writing of any season. The cases were intriguing and there was good mix of Steve’s story and I sort of liked Agent Kay and Lori. They ought to bring back James’ character at least one more time.
Like dominiekim, I was also hoping they were setting up the end of the restaurant story in the last ep, but I guess not. 😦
As for the baiting, I don’t get why they are doing it. The McDanno shippers are a tiny minority of viewers so, why cater to them exclusively? Why not do some baiting for fans of other ships? The girlfriends have only been mentioned once all season, yet the McDanno stuff is in every episode that Scott is in. I don’t even have a “ship” on the show, but I would like to see Steve with a girlfriend or a wife. We haven’t even seen him be flirty with anybody in ages! Ugh!
Glad you are staying even if you are mostly focusing on Alex and less on Steve. This is the only place I post about the show because y’all are the most balanced with enjoyment and frustration with the show. 🙂

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and again and again) this is the best Alex site in all of fandom. Period. Visitors, lurkers and posters who come here are funny, intelligent, respectful, polite and generous people who genuinely admire Alex. As a relatively new Alex fan, I’ve learned everything about Alex from coming to this extraordinarily beautiful site. We respect Alex’ talent, career, life history, wife, family, children, and his right to privacy above all.

We have fun. We share our often mutual frustrations with the show. We share insights and thoughts on characters, plots, story lines, show history. We love Alex’ hilarious sense of humor and fun. We love his wonderful interactions with his admirers. Ah, all those lucky, lucky people who’ve had the gift of meeting him up close and personal.

We’re connoisseurs of the wonderfulness of Alex O’Loughlin.

I wish the show was a little more believable, I do believe that their could be better writing for Alex and the rest of the cast. Alex does a tremendous job on what he is given. I also love more of Steve as a navy seal, I would love to see an episode with alex narrating the story like he did in moonlight he has such a sexy voice. Wasting it on augments with danny is sad. I would love to see him play the guitar and sing, and yes allow some of that Australian snarky humor of his out, Steve with a girlfriend would be lovely, Thank you again for all you do

I’d love to see and hear Alex play the guitar, also. It has been reported that he is good. He has said that he wants to keep that part of his private like for himself, though. I’d love to hear Alex sing, too. He described his voice, (borrowing a line from comedian Billy Connolly) as like ” a goose farting in the fog.” Bwaaa-ha-ha !!! Alex is so self-deprecating, that somehow I don’t believe him.

I burst out laughing at Alex’ description of his singing voice! He’s hysterically funny!

I wonder if Steve’s panic attack in front of the high school assembly when he was supposed to play the guitar actually might be something that really happened to Alex? He’s said in interviews that he was agoraphobic and had panic attacks when he was a teenager.

It’s one thing to act. But you’re much more emotionally naked when you sing or play an instrument. I sang in a concert chorus for many years. Then I was invited to sing a solo. Rehearsals with the chorus went great. But once I was on stage, all alone and in the spotlight, I went into full panic mode, fight or flight syndrome. My friend Steve teased me “Kathy, you looked like you were going to run away!” I performed the song four or five times, but the panic grew stronger, rather than weaker.

We’re always our own harshest critics, but Alex may feel that panicky feeling rising in his throat if he’s asked to play the guitar for others. That’s why I wonder if Steve’s experience may really have been Alex’ experience in real life.

Foyeur and Paula, so glad you are both still around, always the voice of reason, and Kathysr you took the words right out of my mouth.
I think Alex enjoying the bare footness could be a bit of the Aussie in him, it’s what we do, or at least live in thongs (flip flops) much of the time. I read that Alex said Hawaii felt a lot like Australia when he first went there, and people live in thongs there as well from all the pics we see. Anyway the less he has on, the better, oops shallow again 😇
