Episodes 8:07 – It is 175 episodes for #H50 and counting.

The show made it to its 175th episode!

Congratulations to all involved.

It is a huge achievement for any show these days and definitely a great accomplishment. And from the looks of it, Hawaii Five-0 might be looking at a few more seasons to come. Who knows, they might even double it and in the end will reach 350+ episodes. 🙂

This week’s story might not have been as BIG as those for the 100th or 150th episodes – but Alex definitely entertained us with some wonderful acting.

Just to clear up some speculation about the filming  and the number of this episode – it was always filmed and planned as Episode 175. Other episodes might have been broadcast out of sequence but not this one – it was filmed as Episode 8:07 as far as I could see. It is a pity that the new regular cast members Noelani, Duke and Kamekona did not make it into this episode, but it is understandable that the story did not need their involvement. Together with the fact that this was Episode 175, I can also see why this episode, rather than last week’s farce, was shown at SOTB this year.

Today I just share a few of my own thoughts while watching the show …. no Koala Smartass #sorry . But as usual our post is just an excuse to post some pretty Alex pictures.

  • Junior is running and waiting patiently at the traffic light (I saw the EP said that he is the heart of the show now and taking the “reigns” – so it is good that they start with him, I guess). Somebody nearly runs him over with her car. Now that’s what I call running into each other by accident (or near accident that is. 😀 )

  • You can see, there is some history there (Leila and Juniorfirst loves maybe?) ….. but this history is highly pregnant now. Doubt if it was Junior’s doing, because he was a war hero before he came home. So I guess their history is history or maybe not.

  • So we saw this next bit on the sneak peeks – so the surprise of it is kind of not there. 😦 … Tani seems to know where her brother hangs out and also got word that the place would be raided that morning, because she pitched up just in time to get him out of there. The perks of working for an elite task force I guess – some ‘insider trading‘ of sorts. But she did not do anything to prevent the raid or warn any of those there apart from her brother. Is that then still a deadly sin or real police obstruction? Maybe just some ‘insider saving‘?

  • Ah, happy Steve is meeting somebody at the airport – 2 people it seems! He seems really exited about whoever it is. He is expecting the Noshimori’s, but only Adam appears, without Kono?
  • Steve is leiing (is that a word? 😀 ) Adam. Giving another man flowers – surely Danny will be jealous?
  • I  kind of think that they have created a good explanation why Adam is back without Kono. She is busy saving the world and he is bored (And I wonder who is paying the bills?). I can not find fault with that. Steve and Adam’s conversation makes me think – Unlike Cath, Kono got the ring, but she still decided to leave her man and follow her passion to do something for humanity – a legacy as Steve calls it. Men sometimes neglect their families and loved ones to follow a calling, and they are hailed as heroes most of the time for doing it. Are these women also heroes? Is Doris not also maybe a hero? I kind of really like it that Doris is mentioned in the Steve/ Adam conversation. (I know I am in a minority, but I still like Doris)

  • Adam and Kono and babies. Doris says things happen when they are supposed to happen …. Wonder if we will ever see her again? Dead or alive? Or see her hold Steve’s child?

  • Junior is still running – and is really tired. But not too tired to be very observant. He sees a suspicious car without number plates in front of a bank and 4 suspicious guys getting out. Seems like he is a good detective already.

  • Eddie and a Jedi mind trick to mesmerize Steve – now that is a great idea for any fangirl to try …..

  • Junior is wise, he calls Steve. He was right, it is a bank robbery, but the duffel bags were not empty – there were some BIG guns in there.

  • Okay – now we see the 2nd sneak peek. Tani and Grover watching her on video “saving” her brother from being arrested. Not sure where Grover got the footage and who else knows about this. And we all know what happened to Gabriel after Chin cut him some slack – he became a vicious killer and a gangster.

  • Grover deletes the footage. But is that the only copy?

  • Junior and Adam. I find Junior and Adam’s dialogue somewhat strange. Junior lives with Steve – surely Steve would have told him that he was going to the airport to pick up Kono and Adam. Junior sounds like he did not know that?
  • Okay Steve –  this is not looking good. There are some tied up people in the bank, but no robbers in sight?

  • Trust the ex gangster boy to know that a getaway car would have a driver and would be running. Or maybe Adam just watched to many cop shows while he was waiting for Kono in the hotel rooms. But still, it is strange that that there is no getaway driver, I agree.

  • And there we miss it again. Steve changing from his normal shirt to his T-shirt with his kevlar right there on in the streets of Honolulu. 😦 (Just want to add here that I really like the shape or cut of the shirts Steve is wearing this season. It shapes nicely on Alex’s gorgeous body)

  • This is also not new – sneak peek 3 – Steve and the non-taskforce back-up, breaks down the back door and he sneaks into the bank from the back or the bottom or whatever. Of course Adam and Junior did not listen to him, and both follow Steve inside. I was just wondering, who was watching the getaway car and the front door while they were all down there – the robbers could easily have left on the street while they were busy. Normally a bank robbery is a quick job, isn’t it? If they were no longer inside the bank, I would have thought that they walked out the front while our heroes were downstairs in the parking garage breaking down doors and not in the vault.

  • That’s neat – the vault explodes and after the bank manager opens it, they find a freshly opened pre-dug getaway tunnel inside the vault. My question is, why did they even go in through the bank, why not just shoot the hole open at night and steal the money from the outside, if they were that close to the inside?

  • LOL – Junior just remembered that he missed a test. I have done some crazy things to get out of writing a test, but spotting a bank robbery, now that is genius 😀

  • How can Steve move so fast underground, that Adam needs to drive like a maniac to track him? And how can Jerry even track him down there?
  • Wow, Steve is a better shot when he shoots in the dark than usually in broad daylight – but oops it’s a cop

  • Either the gangster in Adam is coming out, or it is Steve’s truck that inspires him to be so wild! Adam might have Danny’s dialogue of concerns during this episode, but he sure drives like McGarrett.
  • Now they are suddenly out of mid-town in a field picking up Steve and the half dead “cop” coming up from underground?

  • They pronounced the wounded guy dead a bit quick? There in the hallway? Not really trying very hard? (Maybe we have all been watching too many hospital show over the year? )
  • How did they so quickly get the finger print of the bank teller inside the vault analysed – but the dead ‘cop’ has not been identified yet? And normally the HPD cops  have their names on their uniforms? Why is Steve worried about a cop that died, which they have not even ID’d yet, because if they did it correctly, they would have known he was not a real cop. Poor Steve went emo for nothing. (But I guess they did give Alex a chance to show his brilliance)
  • Yikes – so the blue room is not every safe after all?

  • They still do not know who deposited the money that was stolen – I guess that is where Adam will come in soon. To infiltrate the gangster world? I like Steve and Adam together. (I am thinking of writing something about the bond between them in a different post – their fathers were murdered by the same man after all).

All in all I guess this was the best episode for the season thus far. And as quite a few people said at SOTB, the new blood added a new spark to the show. Some young fresh and eager talent. And also the genius idea of adding a K9 (#McEddieForever). All of the new cast, Ian included as regular cast, are giving Alex a fresh opportunity to do his thing. I do hope that they give the newly added regular local cast also some better stories. Kamekona had his chance already, but we haven’t seen much of Duke or Noelani yet. Alex really bonds well with all of them.

First things first. The pictures you have posted are amazing. Thank you for all the trouble you go through to make us happy. I always “think” thank you but I don’t say it often enough so I am saying it now.

On to the episode. Yes, 175 wan’t as spectacular as 100 or 150 but I really enjoyed it . And this is two weeks in a row that Steve has been having the “babies” conversations so I am hopeful that the radiation poisoning cannot affect a super seal. Alex knocked this out of the park and I was happy to see the EP give him credit.

Kono is getting a pass from Steve for doing the same thing Cath did, except Kono is a wife and left her marriage and Adam behind. If Cath lied to Steve, then Kono didn’t consider Adam’s wishes at all when she left. That, to me, is called desertion. As for Adam, although it is nice that he followed Kono to be with her while she follows her “legacy”, couldn’t he find something to do with his time other than sitting in a motel room eating vending machine food? But the writers needed a reason to bring Adam back without Kono so this is the story they are telling.

Poor Junior. First love is always pure love, special in a way that cannot be touched, diminished or forgotten. Even when it doesn’t work out, it is always special. It was sad to watch him. knowing all the emotions he was going through.

I still can’t figure out Tani so I will continue to withhold judgment until we know more of her back story. I just don’t want her to be a Kono clone.

    Didn’t miss Danny at all.

Wow! Lenkov actually gave Alex some credit? Cool. I guess singlehandedly carry a show for 7 1/2 seasons and eventually your EP will notice… 🙄

I enjoyed the ep too. Alex pairs so well with everybody…and I was surprised how much I enjoyed him with McAdam! They were great together…McG actually made Adam interesting and lively! Instead of whining and emo’ing, he jumped in there like a boss and got shite done. And I’ve rather taken to Junior, tho I do wish his name wasn’t Junior. Like, I guess he’s Junior McG but even this show coulda made an attempt to be more subtle. 🙂

And I always enjoy when Danno goes away. The adults manage to get the job done just fine without him. And there’s no grating on my ears and my patience.

Good ep. But Foyeur, I do hope KoalaSmartass is ok. ❤

Still love Alex/Steve and love the show. I hope it keeps going for many more years

    • Hi Paula, not sure all our readers noticed that you are not me, and I feel differently than you. I would prefer for the show to end, purely for selfish reasons. I am a bit tired of watching McGarrett, it´s been over 7 years, would really love to see Alex work on something else. But unfortunately, he loves living in HI and lucky for him, it seems shows ratings are even higher this time, so maybe he will enjoy his island living and working for quite some time still….

      • LOL, yeah I was wondering… Split personality?
But I am not tired watching Steve at all. There’s always something new once in a while Alex can sink his teeth into. And he blows me away every time.

  3. Yeah as hope someone will show Alex the money. But really it is up to him. But he has a lot of sores for eight seasons. And can’t blame him for moving on.
Thought I would despise the eighth season, but really loving it.
Love Junior and he is wise beyond his years
Tani was left with the decision as Grover played like a tough love father in deciding whether to delete the video or not
Loves her brother but he is wayward and she does not want him having a record. Once he has that, there is nothing she can do.
That so called “cop” was not one.
    Overall it is 7/10!

  4. Of course it will take ages before we can watch S8 in Spain, but I always read yr comments with great pleasure. Do I have to understand that Scott/Danny was not in this special ep? I mean, not at all? How stange, especially as he attended the SOTB event. What can it mean?

    • Kathysr

I have a sneaky suspicion that Scott may be doing even fewer episodes this year than in previous years. I’m amazed that he signed on for an eighth year. I love Scott/Danny, so I’m delighted he’s still on the show, lol, though I know the majority of fans at this site wish he would disappear forever. That said, this episode was great and Danny wasn’t missed at all.

As Alex so correctly said at SOTB, the changes this year give the show “a breath of fresh air.” I totally agree. Miracle of miracles, maybe Peter and the H50 writers finally listened to the fans of the show. The story-lines are being written differently this year, and I love them. They’re more character driven, more mysterious, often open ended and they leave us wondering about things. That’s real life.

I love that Tani called Steve and asked to talk to him and then the episode ended there. She knows she needs to confess what she did. We don’t know what the outcome of that discussion will be. Well, we know Steve won’t let her go, but she needs to realize that her brother is a real potential problem. On the Halloween episode, at the very ending of the show, the disfigured young woman who had kidnapped the little girl was seen peering through the window at her rescued victim. So, that could be a future episode.

I really felt Adam’s heartache and sadness when he opened the door to his empty home and went inside alone. I really like him with Steve, too. So,for me this year is a wonderful surprise, and it’s exciting to see that a show well into it’s eighth year can be refreshing and reinvigorated.

I liked this episode a lot. Alex was amazing as usual, and so gorgeous. I kinda like that Adam is back. I never miss Danny when he’s not there.
I was glad that Tani did decide to tell Steve about her brother at the end. It would have been awkward for Steve to find out later, that she and Grover had kept something from him.
I was disappointed though, that Junior didn’t ask Steve why he has to finish academy training, while Tani got a pass. Junior is living in Steve’s house, so there’s no excuse. I hope this isn’t going to be just another little detail the show doesn’t follow up on.
Thanks for all the lovely Alex goodies.

Thank you for the many pictures of Alex that show a lot of different emotional faces of Steve. I thought it was a good episode.

  7. DoubleL

Pretty good episode, but Steve seemed sort of out of character. He should have figured out that guy wasn’t a real cop on his own. When Steve opened his shirt to see the wound, he wasn’t wearing kevlar. That was the “dead” giveaway right there. Also, Steve talking to Adam about “making babies” was kind of weird to me. I mean Steve is/was Kono’s boss! I know they are all “ohana”, but what woman wants her boss and her husband discussing that? Steve got mad at Danny last week for similar talk and that is exactly how Steve would react, but it’s ok for him and Adam to talk about that stuff? I don’t think so. 😦
Anyway, great pics as usual! ♥

  8. Ally

As usual Alex conveys the feelings and emotions of his character without uttering one word. He has so much talent. I watch him H50 and I’m torn. On H50 we get to see a lot of Alex on a regular basis, but if he moved on he might find something that allowed him to express his creativity and acting range. I liked this episode and of course I’ve had a crush on Ian Anthony Dale since The Event. I enjoyed seeing him on here even without Kono.

Although I know I’ve said this before, thank you for all the effort you put in to this board. I do enjoy reading your posts and looking at the gifs.

I thought this episode was great! I liked Steve and Adam together and I was also happy to see Adam’s return. I hope he’ll be more inclusive in H50 than in the past esp since I don’t think he’s presently commited to other projects at this time.

I also like how Junior and Tani are coming into their own. I think they are going to enhance and be great additions to H50!! I esp liked them both in this episode.

My heart went out for Steve when he thought he had killed a cop. Just by looking at his face, and what a face it is, said it all about what he was feeling because of his actions! No words From Grover could ease that tremendous guilt he was feeling! Thankfully the end result of that changed because I could not begin to imagine what kind of long-range affect that would have had on Steve if he had actually killed a cop!! From S1 when sometimes looking at Alex it seemed he wasn’t that sure of himself to S8 where he commands his scenes totally he has truly shown how excellent he is at his craft!! Hopefully we will get to see him move on to other projects. I’d love to see him on the big screen!!!❤❤

BTW thanks for all the gorgeous gifs!!😍😍

  10. Was this episode illogical? Oh yes.
Was this episode unrealistic? Oh yes.
Was this episode awesome? Oh hell YES!
And there are one and a half reason that made it so awesome. AOL and in parts Chi McB. AOL elevated this episode. He nailed every scene. Not only the emotional scene as Steve was thinking he killed someone (I think someone cut some onions near to me…), but the happiness he radiated at the airport or the incredibly well acted ‘coming back to his senses’ scene after the blast. Or the desparation while carrying the ‘cop’. That was all so so good. I totally forgot to take screens because I was so mesmerized and intrigued. The scene with Grover was amazing. Grover knows the feeling, he can relate to something like this, he knows he can’t ease the pain and the guilt. But he can be there, show support, make it clear that he doesn’t judge Steve. He is the one who knows about Steve’s PTSD and his sleeping problems. Steve went to him!
I am no real fan of Adam (the character!) because I can not forget what he has done and that made me lose my respect. But to my suprise I really enjoyed the Steve/Adam pairing. I ‘believed’ Adam that he really cares for Steve, that he really values their friendship. The storyline around Adam and Kono is stupid, but I let that slide because they had to come up with something. In one thing I disagree, FOYeur, I can’t compare what Doris or Cath did with what Kono did. Two different pairs of shoes for me.
I wish we would have seen Tani talking to Steve, but as we have already seen the follow up episode last week, I think we won’t.
I can’t wait to watch it again, and it actually does help that I didn’t feel the need to yell unladylike words at the screen. Such a relief!
I only missed one of Steve’s friends, his BFF, best furry friend, Eddie.
Love your pics, Paula. Damn, Odell is good with this whole sideburn thing!

  11. Oh and PL said Junior is the heart and the soul of H50 now? Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding me.
And there I thought hell has frozen over because he for once actually praised his lead actor. I thought he *finally* got an idea who guaran-damn-tees giving his A-game and drawing in the audience every week!

    • Maybe I am judging Peter a bit harshly, but on HNN interview on 9 Nov, at minute 3:58, he said that Junior had sort of become the heart and soul of the show right now. (But I do take into account that he was on TV and maybe just said something without really thinking what he said)

And NOT that I do not appreciate what he had to say about Alex on twitter – but unfortunately it was all in response to other comments. I would have liked it better if he offered up those high praises all on his own and not as replies. Now that would have really made my day as a fangirl of Alex’s talent ……

      • gracenotpark

I think it’s Lenkov’s ego. He can’t stand that Alex is THE reason for Show’s success and longevity. It certainly isn’t the plots, continuity, or Lenkov’s often-creepy Hollywood buddy guest stars… 🙄

Fans watch a show because of who is on stage or screen. With the exception of directors such as Scorsese or Spielberg, nobody cares who is behind the scenes .PL is a legend in his own mind. He needs to get over himself.

FYI, did everyone notice that Peter sat right next to Alex at SOTB? I didn’t see any love there. Too bad. They were once really tight. I think Alex is done with Peter. Peter’s been stabbing him in the back for a long time. Why would Peter say that a brand new character is the heart and soul of the show? Then fans all know that Alex’s the heart and soul, the leader, the person who brings everyone together, the person who cares about absolutely everyone on the show.

I think fans read way too much into one snapshot or clip. Fans went off the rails about Peter “throwing Alex under the bus” – and that quite possibly just isn’t true (if you step back and take emptions and fangirling out of it). This is a business. It is Peter’s job to support that the business is continuing – he has advertisers and bosses to appease too. He had to reassure people that the show (might) continues if Alex left. And the whole thing about it being a negotiating tool? Who is to say that wasn’t the truth? Alex needs to look out for himself. Peter needs to look out for the show. Business.

And pardon me while I throw myself off a bridge because I just defended PL. Something must be wrong with me!

I feel pretty much the same way. It is a business for CBS. The bottom line is the only line that matters to them. As long as they continue to make money everyone is happy. Ratings really don’t matter as much and the ratings for Friday are OK but not spectacular. The show is aging and getting more expensive but so is Blue Bloods and NCIS LA.
I would like a S9 so they have time to wrap things up but it is out of our hands. Hopefully, when the end does come, AOL will find another project which will appeal to him as an artist and give him joy.

              • Very true and great fun to read.
Yes, Peter is doing his job and doing things the way he thinks it is working. And by the looks of it, it seems to get support from viewers so he somehow gets results. CBS already planning on giving him his 3rd reboot to do. They must be making big money through whatever he is doing.

Just been disappointed by Peter’s way of handling things so many times over the years, that it is difficult for me to defend any of his actions or to get excited about any of he promises.

                • Kimphin1

Oh, not enjoying whatever this clusterf#$% he’s done with the show is a totally different thing! Totally with you there – what in the world has happened with this one – ahhh the places it could’ve gone.

Totally agree FOYeur. lol, trust me, I know it’s all about “the business.” But my heart belongs to Alex. I’d respect Peter so much more if he’d let Alex work with the writers on storyline ideas over the years and allowed him to be a co-executive producer. Other shows do this with their stars. Mark Harmon has run NCIS for 10+ years and makes $600,000+ per episode for his dual role. When you executive produce, you get two salaries: One per episode as an actor and a separate salary as an executive producer.

Oh well, I’m enjoying Season Eight and maybe we’ll even get to see Season Nine. I loved Alex’ tease at SOTB “Hope to see you next year!”

If Magnum really happens, there could be some cross-over episodes for the two shows. Now that I could enjoy. The original Magnum was goofy, silly and lighthearted a lot. Let’s see what they do with the re-boot.
