#AlexOLoughlin and #H50 – Sunset On The Beach (#8)

Last Friday it was time for the 8th Sunset on the Beach. It was, of course, a bit different this year, as it did not feature the premiere of the season. But it was also a special celebration of Episode 175. The show dedicated the evening to the war veterans and a number of them were invited to attend the evening.

And of cause as Number 1 on the call sheet of the show, playing Steve McGarrett, Alex O’Loughlin once again contributed to making the evening into a special event for the fans of the show.  Here is a short recap of parts of Alex being Alex during the evening …….

  • He arrived in style and graciously accepted the customary lei.

  • Made a heartfelt speech to celebrate the Veterans

Now they get a taste of how tricky it is (talking about the executives making speeches before him).

Thank you all very much for coming. I can’t see any of you, but I’m sure you are there.

[Talking to someone close by off stage]: What’s it? [Adjusting how he speaks in the mic]. Is this good? I didn’t even know how to use this.

Look, all week I’ve been thinking about what I would say. And the reason I said yes to speaking is because  uhm ……

What we are celebrating today – and I don’t mean the show – I mean Veteran’s day, is very important to me for a number of reasons. I started thinking about it and…..

Eight years ago we started on this journey, and this journey required military assistance from many different divisions. And when we reached out a hand and asked for assistance from the US military, we got so many hands back.

One of the biggest hurdle for me saying yes to the role, was that I would be representing a community of very special people within the US Navy. And I think I would be able to do it. And the only reason I have been able to kind of pull it off, is because of the support that I’ve had from select individuals. A number of them are in the crowd tonight. And you know who you are, gentleman.

Uhm ….. [Crowd clapping]

The US Navy SEAL’s  – I’ve never had a group of people make me feel more a part of. More equal and more welcome than that community. So, first of all, I would like to say,  a sincere and humble thank you so much to the entire community.

Second of all, I would just like to take a minute to say to every servicemen and women in this country, whether currently active, deployed or otherwise, whether heading into a retirement or well settled into retirement or whether the memory of the souls that we no longer have – Thank you so much for providing all of us, including guests and ex-patriots like me, from Australia and other countries, the freedom that we have every day, the civil liberties that we try not to take for granted and the peace that we have every night when we lay our children down and close our own eyes

So for all you service people out there, from the bottom of our hearts on Hawaii Five-0 – Thank you for your service.

Aloha.

FOYeur, thank you so much for all the wonderful photos and videos you’ve been able to bring here for us for the SOTB Eighth Year. Alex is perfection at SOTB. I fell in love with him last year. It seems like over the years he’s mellowed into it. I think when they first began he was a bit shy and kind of nervous. But now he just strides in and takes over the venue! King of the hill! He’s darling with Eddie. Isn’t he adorable with the little kids? I love his group selfies, he’s just the funniest, most impish, darling guy who’s clearly having fun with his fans. He gets that energy up and he’s ready to roll!

Alex’ beautiful speech made me cry. What a heartfelt and honest expression of gratitude from Alex on behalf of everyone on the show. He’s the perfect person to speak for everyone. And that was really off the top of his head, just what he’d been thinking during the week. You’re amazing, Alex.

And how about the impish “See you next year!” If the show can stop killing him with too much physical punishment, it seems like Alex might consider doing a few more years.

  8. Thank you for putting all this together!
I think he was (as always) wonderful at SOTB! His interviews, his speech and the little snippits he had to say into the camera were heartfelt, honest, not forced and also funny. I will never forget his ‘S9’ face, and Paula’s great gif.
He once said that he is a little bit agoraphobic but nevertheless he tries to make as many fans happy as possible. Talking, laughing, signing and taking one selfie after the other and tons of group selfies! And he makes this thing never about him but about the fans, the audience and the people of Hawaii! He made the day special for a lot of people. At this evening he made the world a little bit better for a lot of people. Sometimes it’s so easy.

    • And he makes this thing never about him but about the fans, the audience and the people of Hawaii! <<<<< could not have said it better myself. Respecting Hawaii and honouring the traditions (even somethng as "small" as wearing a lei). And he shows respect to the fans who have to put so much effort in to be there by trying to get to as many of them as possible and to make their few seconds with him special!
Makes me proud to be a fan … he really makes it easy.

This was wonderful!!! Thank you for this beautiful treat of pictures and videos!!! Fun seemed to be had by all including Eddie!! I heard Alex’s speech on Utube and it was great how he paid homage to the veterans!! No script or reading from a teleprompter just sincerity coming from his great heart!!! What a warm, sweet, generous man he is not to mention the same sentiment given to his fans!! I keep saying it and never tire but I love this man!!!❤❤❤❤

Could not get any sound, on any of the feeds. Noticed Alex didn’t have his wedding ring on. Are the two dots, there instead?

    • Hi Sue
You actually have to activate the sound by clicking in the right hand bottom corner on the x of the little loudspeaker mark there of each video. Then you should have sound.
A lot better that way that sound does not just suddenly appear whenever you open something – you can chose to have the sound when you want to hear it.
Alex has not been wearing his wedding ring for a few months already and since then we have noticed the two dots.
Unless Alex confirms it himself, the two dots and what they represent will remain a guessing game. My guess however would be that it indeed took the place of his ring. No reason at this stage to think otherwise.
