O’Lachlan, 28, has broken into the movie industry with a starring role alongside Aussie cinema great Jack Thompson in the new Australian film Oyster Farmer.
He said he was drawn to the film’s unique Australian flavour and the honesty of his character, oyster farmer-turned-outlaw Jack Flange.
“It’s a real, true piece of Australian storytelling,” he said in Melbourne today.
“When I read the script, I was drawn to Jack’s character and I really wanted to tell his story.”
O’Lachlan said working with Thompson was a great learning curve:
“He was a big drawcard for this film. He’s a great man to learn from.”
While comparisons to Australia’s current crop of stars is flattering, O’Lachlan, who has relocated from Sydney to the Hollywood Hills, is focused on making his own name.
“I don’t want to be known as the next Russell Crowe or Heath Ledger, I just want to be known as the new Alex O’Lachlan,” he said.
