As much, lovely Steve, as we got, big part of epi was ruined by his annoying buddy, constantly picking on McG (it was over the top, really!). But at least he was happy to hear D would name his restaurant “STEVE” 😀 Now that was hilarious to watch

It’s sad watching Steve putting so much efforts in this friendship and Danny doesn’t appreciate it one bit and cheapens these efforts at any given opportunity (IMO). Sorry but I don’t like this Danny anymore. Alex was so gorgeous throughout the episode and I really enjoyed his (full body and face 😀 ) acting. Thank you for those wonderful gifs! They are most appreciated!

I agree with all the comments about Danno. PLEASE stop with the arguments with him and McG. They are gotten real old, real fast. However, I can take that if we can have more of McG in all his hot, male glory doing all that badass stuff. Damn…my ovaries exploded at least three times during that episode! I love Alex very much and also used to like H50. But this season ,to me has been a big disappointment. Steve an Danny’s carguments used to be funny but now they are becoming very annoying. Also I think that there should be some romance now and then. Before they all had girl friends and now nothing. If I want to watch a procedual cop show there are many others I could find. I think that Catherine and Steve had great chemistry. I am not saying that they should be on all the time, but they should be on at some point on every show, even if it is only 5 minutes.

I love all the manly things Steve does in this episode to save the island! I have nothing against Scott Caan, but someone should put a muzzle on Danny. He is really annoying this season. Maybe, he should retire. Thank you for all the great pictures and loved the wet pants scene!

Thank you for the great gifs… Always thinking of us. Two episodes where our boy has looked SPECTACULAR. Does anyone else think he looks a bit skinnier? Not a problem here. The McDanno bickering is embarrassing actually. Writers are making Danny so annoying, needy and immature. Again just shows you how deep Steve is and Danny is superficial. Just like last week’s recap gifs, I’ll be watching these till my phone battery dies….Great job!

I have a feeling the writers are making Danny so immature because he is dating a much younger girl. Melissa seems young enough to be still in school. Not high school, but maybe college? If this keeps up, she will be more mature than he is. Maybe she already is. Sad. Very sad.

V, I blame all of the words coming out of Danny’s mouth on TPTB’s influence on the writers. Part of the reason I wrote this http://hawaii5-0slash.livejournal.com/1494875.html was in part because of the way they are writing Danny’s character. It’s like they want to go there with “More-Than-Friends” Steve and Danny, but they are scared to make that step. So they give Danny a-hole scapegoat dialogue in order to make it appear that they don’t approve. And then this evening what to my wondering eyes should appear but an episode that opens with Steve teaching an HPD class on Weapons and Tactics, the duo finding themselves in a literal “do or die” situation causing them to have to consider their future, Danny confessing to Steve that he is thinking about retirement and maybe opening a restaurant, Steve going ballistic (for him) because Danny did not consult with him about any of this, forcing another “I Love You” out of Steve and then making a rather roundabout proposal to Danny, and the show ending with Little Charlie seated at the table with them and their friends.
Now I do not, never have and extremely likely will never work for CBS, so I have no way to explain how almost everything I suggested could possibly be in an episode that was obviously filmed weeks if not months ago. But having seen this episode, I am willing to take a small step back on everything I said about the writers of H50 being chickensh*t. I thought that this was a very well done ep, with a stupid but entirely plausible A-story scenario. Steve and Danny’s B-story here in conjunction with the Valentines Day ep, Grace’s School Hostage ep, and a few others from this season seems to be part of a larger and more subtle story arc wherein the writers are finally start taking a stance in defining the relationship between the two men. What I am glad to see is that it’s Steve (and why wouldn’t it be — the show has always been about Steve) who is making the change. After all he is the one person on this show who has had the worst time of it as far as actual family is concerned: he is essentially an orphan with almost all of his closest parent figures dead or missing. None of the women from his own generation are around (i.e. Mary Anne and Catherine); and in the last 2 weeks he appears to have written off two more (Watch how detached his face when he hugs Alicia at the end of 7.17 and he could barely look Lynn in the eye in 7.16). So by the end of this episode when Grover made his ominous inference, you could tell from Steve’s face (and the exquisitely framed camera shot) that he was ONLY thinking of how so very close he came to losing the one thing that he really does love and care about, Danny.
The writers seem to have made it pretty it clear in what direction they might be planning in taking Steve McGarrett.

Of course you write from a point of view where you wish it would happen. And I find that lots of times people see thing with the tint of the glasses that they wear.
In other words one perceive things through the eyes of your own wishes just as some others might see it as that they show is setting up Danny to actually leave soon. Or that one of the Ohana might get killed etc..
I guess it will all depend on how long the show will still last and which actors will still be there for it …..

I do not think that Steve will ever choose someone like Danny as his life partner . (I find it even hard to understand that he still is a work partner after the rooftop incident) Not only is Danny respectless, often offensive and rude, constantly whining, bitching, bashing, complaining (hearing him is like listening to someone scratching a chalkboard with the fingernails for 44 min.), no, he embarrasses and undermines his friend and boss! in front of others. This is a character trait no one should find even remotely acceptable. I hope Steve has a higher standard for companionship, friendship, relationship.
Sorry, but I’m done.
I hope he retires.

I’m not one to bash Danny, but his behavior towards Steve in front of all those cops at the start of the show was way out of line. Who does that?! I understand him being annoyed with Steve looking at something he considered private, but there’s a time and a place and that was not it. Totally unprofessional and completely disrespectful to not only Steve, but Duke and the cops in attendance too.

Truth! And the thing is Danny has done something like this several times. It shows a great lack of respect, for Steve and the other party involved. In this case it is (again) hypocritical and full of double standard. Danny was the one who spilled the beans about Steve’s plan to propose. Preaching water, drinking w(h)ine.

Are there different writers from the earlier seasons? Is that why the bickering (which used to be fun to watch) now has a nasty, spitefulness about them? I read a comment (I can’t remember whether it was here or another board) which said they thought it was the way that Scott delivers the lines, rather than the script itself, which is the problem. All I know is it’s not the playful, cute banter that they used to have.

Passion, the writers do change up every year, some stay, some go, some new ones come along. I don’t know if any of the original writers are still with Show, but the replacements hired after those now gone are, apparently, 12 year old boys. 🙄

I totally agree, this new group of writers is terrible. I’m sure they’re NOT the original writers who created those four characters we love on the show. Danny’s totally not being written the way he was the first three years. He’s unrecognizable as the Danny Williams we met in the pilot. I think this may happen. When writers are good, they get promoted to head writers and then they often go on to write for other shows and then keep getting promoted into different positions. They may ultimately become creators and executive producers of their own shows.
In my opinion all the characters have been poorly written this year. Actually, Steve is the best of the lot this year for me. Where’s the Grover I love? Bad ass Kono has been MIA the entire year. Chin has had some good storylines. Jerry has faded into oblivion. It’s all very strange. I still think it has something to do with Alex’ injury, but I could be wrong, it’s just my thoughts on the matter.

Thus far, I’m liking season 7 better than 6. I haven’t loved every episode, but I think the over arching story for this season is better than last year’s. I do agree with you that some things are being re-written because of the injury. Jerry’s been missing for the last three episodes and that’s ok with me. I don’t hate the guy, but I think he’s a ridiculous addition to an elite crime fighting task force.

In previous years, each character was given at least one or two episodes a year which focused on them and let them shine. And often we got to meet their families and loved ones, which personally draws me into the character and makes me care about that person. They haven’t done that this year. Everyone’s kind of faded into the background. I’ve never really understood Jerry’s reason for being on the show. Grover is clear. But Jerry is very vague. I love the actor, loved him on LOST, but he truly doesn’t fit in with this group of highly trained people. The poor guy has had NOTHING to do this year. I get a kick out of his conspiracy theories and I loved it when he actually figured out that those bad guys were printing phony money, almost losing his life in the process. That was a great episode, intriguing, surprising and excellently done by the entire cast. And the other great episode was when he was able to re-program the drone to stop killing the good guys and go after the bad guys. That was fun.
I have this feeling that some big cast changes are coming next year.

I really agree with that observation. Scott has been playing Danny much colder and nastier this season than ever before. It used to be funny because it was done with a kind of sweetness. Now it tends to just be nasty. I noticed very pointedly in this episode that when Steve said, “I love you bro,” Danny didn’t reply at all, no more “I love you more.” Remember when they used to do that, three or four years ago? Also, when Steve’s going to remove the uranium and Danny stands there, I expected him to wish Steve well or tell him he loves him. Then Danny says, “I’ve got nothing” and walks away. OUCH. I noticed that. That seemed to be very pointed. And when they’re just about to be blown up, hiding behind the truck, and Steve says, name the restaurant Steve’s Restaurant, so “if we’re no longer together, we’ll still be together,” Danny just answers, “You’re very sentimental.” Weird response when you’re about to die, you would think he’d tell Steve at that moment how he really feels.
My theory is that Scott is doing this on purpose so that Danny can emotionally distance himself from Steve and Five-O. Danny’s decided to leave, so he’s got to cut the emotional bonds. And Scott is leaving, so he has to do the same. It may be a very calculated acting choice on Scott’s part to change the emotional arc of Danny. For all we know, he may have asked the writers to write him nasty. Scott’s a clever little guy and my take is that he knows exactly what he’s doing. I’m waiting to see how this all plays out.

Hm, I think I disagree a little bit on that. I never found Danny’s behaviour and rants sweet or funny. They have always been delivered harsh and not friendly. From day one there has never been a twinkle in his eyes delivering the lines. He never ‘softens’ his words and lines.
So I am sure it is no calculated acting choice, for me that is too far fetched. It is just him playing his Danny. At least for me, like always. Just in the first seasons it didn’t bother me that much. I always thought the character will develop over the years, but there was none and after 7 seasons it is enough.

I agree that there is a time and place to hash out differences. That was not the place. I did not like the way Danny handled the situation. He should have said it was something personal and private for himself and he didn’t wish to share it with anyone. As a private person I felt his anger and annoyance. Steve loves to help others and that’s commendable, but he doesn’t share a lot of himself. He can come across as intrusive and to someone like me it would anger me. However, I wouldn’t have dwelled on it and would have shut it down immediately by firmly stating it was not up for discussion, but thanks for caring. Sometimes Steve comes across as the childless, familyless friend that has no life and feels the need to intrude in other’s business to avoid dealing with his own issues. Danny on the other hand and especially since the team and show dynamic changed around season 3 and 4 has gotten extremely whiny. He comes across as the unhappily divorced friend that wants his single friend to get married and have a family, so Steve can experience his own stress and misery. I cannot imagine this Danny being the man that dated that archeologist a few seasons back. Of course, they are trying so hard to make Steve and Danny come across as seeming like an old crabby married couple that it’s become over the top. Since season 2 the writing has been inconsistent, lazy, and not true to the way the characters were originally written. I do mean ALL of them except for Chin, maybe. I found an old blog written by Mr. Mike that rings true. Lenkov is a salesman selling his product, H50. The goal is to draw in as many viewers as possible and with salesman they go through sales slumps. In his attempt to gain viewers we have McLynn, McRoll, and McDanno baiting. Unfortunately, right now in the U.S. H50 is having the best ratings it’s had in several seasons, so I’m bracing myself for more lackluster writing.

I zoned in on the part about Danny being a ‘man”. He seemed more like a 12 year old girl PMSing. Again, I think this show is being written by pre-pubcent (spell check?) boys.Enough already! These are 40 year old MEN! They deserve better dialouge (spell check?) than this.Without the action scenes and this poor writing? Really, can Alex’s sexiness be expected to carry the whole show? For me it would. I don”t know about everyone one else though.

You speak my mind, leiCa. As do most others here. I’m not sure I can still watch Show. Danny is gross in most eps, but he failed as a human being, much less a friend, in this ep. If I had someone like Danno in my life, I would hope my REAL friends would help me get rid of him, and maybe get Danno into actual therapy, if anybody could manage to care enough about such a creeper to care if they got help. 🙄

I saw it as a set up for Danny (Scott) leaving the show. No way do they put these two in a romantic relationship. Last I checked Danny is in a committed relationship and Steve is too at least the best he can ever be with these sorts of things. I think his heart will always be with Catherine and in the end, as much as I wished they would have killed her off, they didn’t so in the end in hope Steve and Cath ride of into the sunset together.

I totally agree they need to be together and take that ride. 7.16 I just remember when Steve said “with my lady-friend” and no kiss. Steve and Cath had great chemistry. Lynn just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe if she had more screen time with him I probably could jump on board but no. She came clean with him 7.7 so I think it would be ok with everything and maybe she could quit the field work and just do intel for CIA in Hawaii. Just saying. I know this isn’t a comment for this episode but I was just replying to visage13. I love the episode.

Alex is hot no matter what. This epi, was boring. The first scene after the blast, was in the class. Steve is talking to a class of cops and Danny brings up stupid things, that had nothing to do with the class.
Then there’s the bomb. They had 57 min to get out of there, but they kept stopping and making stupid comments…time is running out. Now my husband was getting a little ticked off with all of it. We saw the ending and kept replaying, because he did not hear what the last thing that Steve said was. Anyone know?

Haven’ t had a chance to watch the episode yet by those pics are leaving me want for more. Not to change the subject of gorgeous sexy Steve, but was anything mentioned about the last episode with Alicia. It ended with her calling 911 and specifically asking for Commander Steve McG.before a shot was heard. Seems there is never a continuation with storyline. That is my gripe with the writers and I’m hoping we get some closure with this before season ends. I like the chemistry between her and McG.

Has anyone ever noticed how easy it was for Dr. G. to get out of jail. Halawa isn’t what it used to be, a stronghold for prisoners. Hopefully Dr. G. Is seriously injured and will be able to stand trial, that is, if she doesn’t get better and escape again. I’ve loved Elizabeth Rohm, since she was on Angel, but enough is enough with her super powers of persuasion.

This one could have been better without all the bickering and the silly shipping bait. Sometimes I even wonder why these two are still friends. The only thing I can come up with is that they use each other to vent their frustrations about other things.

I think you’re right about them taking out their frustrations on each other, especially Danny with Steve. But that’s one of the things I love about their friendship – that they can vent, and whine, and bicker but they will always, always have each others backs. (Yes, it can get tiresome at times but when the writers get the right balance their ‘bromance’ is one of the best on TV).
I think I’m one of the few who doesn’t want a McDanno relationship. I think they’d both go crazy if they didn’t get some space from each other at the end of each day. Their relationship is like grandparents with their grandchildren – they love each other and enjoy spending time together, but they get to hand them back [to their girlfriends/family] when they’ve had enough.

I’m not a fan of Danny’s (Scott). This type of relationship wouldn’t be sustainable in real life. IMHO, it’s very demeaning. When Danny started into Steve in front of the cops, was not necessary and made Steve look like a fool.

There are many fans who do not want to see a McDanno relationship, because it isn’t realistic. PL likes to tease the shippers, and Alex and Scott seem OK with it. I wish they weren’t, because it just further revives the shippers hopes. Their reasoning seems to be that Danny is the only one who has never let Steve down, so they should be together. That is not rational. They should re-watch the episode where Danny’s sister visited, (7.10) and he violently brushes Steve’s teasing hand off his back.
Setting aside all the usual unrealistic stuff, I enjoyed Fridays’ episode, because of Steve’s gorgeousness and heroic moves, but the bickering is just too much. Why are they making Danny more and more annoying? I wonder what Scott and Alex think about it.

I think PL plays all shippers – the McDannos, McRolls and McLynns. He’s such a wind up, keeping all sections of the fandom interested. The official account does it too.
The unrealistic stuff has never bothered me. All I want is to be entertained. I still love the show, but it’s lost its magic lately. I hope this season ends strong.

Why I really love this episode:
1. I love Steve and Danny’s arguments in this episode because they’re about something important. Danny’s thinking of leaving Five-O and he hasn’t discussed it with his partner. Steve’s feeling really panicked and his emotional abandonment issues are triggered. He keeps pressing the issue because he’s upset. Alex played those scenes beautifully. I could genuinely feel Steve’s panic. Steve’s really upset with Danny. Steve’s the one who keeps saying, “I love you, bro,” and “Even if we’re not together, we’ll still be together.”
2. I think the writers have been writing Danny as increasingly negative so we won’t miss him when Scott leaves the show. I’ve been wondering how they’ll write him out of the show. I’m praying that they don’t kill the character. The restaurant idea is our first clue that Danny is thinking of leaving the group.
3. I love Scott and I love Danny, so I’m beginning to feel emotionally abandoned, just like Steve! He just works for me, I can’t explain it, I emotionally relate more to Danny than I do to Steve. I’ve adored Danny from his very first moment onscreen, sigh, I’m gonna miss that guy. lol, he’s the most Jewish WASP I’ve ever seen. Danny’s way of relating to the world is to complain. Kvetch, kvetch, kvetch! I find it funny, but a lot of others finds it irritating. I guess I always understand Danny’s point of view. However, I do agree, the complaining during the training session was unprofessional. Lol, I like to call Danny “Debbie Downer.”
4. If Danny does open that restaurant, then he can do cameos in next season, where the family shows up at the restaurant and he serves them his grandmother’s great Italian food, so we can see small, happy moments at the ends of episodes, like this one. I love that scene, too–all Steve’s Ohana, gathered together to celebrate. Steve cherishes these moments. He’s the father, seated at the head of the table, loving and protecting his family. Danny is his beloved brother, the brother he never had, and that’s why they bicker so much. Danny just does NOT see the world the way that Steve does, they’re polar opposites, and remember, Danny never wanted to be in Hawaii. So, their opposites clash like crazy, but they both know that the other person is by far their best partner. It’s also that male testosterone thing, bumping up against each other. They’re GUYS! Guys challenge each other and want to beat each other.
5. Steve and Danny are brilliant partners. They’re yin and yang, they beautifully complement and complete each other, they each fill in the missing parts of the other person. I love when Danny constantly challenges Steve on all his ideas, then utterly gives in and says, “OK, let’s go.” Steve really does NOT consult Danny on anything. Steve always has all the answers. But then they fuse and seamlessly mesh as one when the rubber meets the road. They’ve successfully accomplished all their missions and they’re still ALIVE. Each partner has saved the other partner’s life countless times. I always think of the Chinese proverb, “When you save another person’s life, you’re responsible for them.”
6. To me, these two are spiritually fused in ways that neither one can understand and which utterly confounds them and drives them nuts. I love it. It’s all spiritual, on the highest level possible, and utterly beyond their human capacity to understand. It’s not sexual, it’s spiritual. And I think that there’s an element here of reality – Scott and Alex are bound in very powerful way because of their close proximity at birth. They’re almost twins. And yet they’re both utterly opposites in most ways, which probably confounds THEM in real life! “I love you but you drive me crazy!!” They get to play their real-world relationship on screen. Alex has said he loves doing these scenes more than anything else.
7. Alex and Scott are both spectacular in this episode, playing polar opposites and driving each other nuts. “Admit it, you’re gonna miss this,” Steve says when they’re both under the truck, fixing the fuel line, trying not to get killed. “Really!?!?” Danny shoots back. I laughed out loud. That tiny scene is the crux of their seven-year conflict: Steve loves danger, Danny hates it!!!
8. I fell in love with Alex in this episode. Steve is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. Alex gives one of the best performances in seven years. When they’re skydiving, Steve’s giddy, smiling, laughing like crazy, sharing an experience he loves with his buddy, who of course, hates it!!! (Man, I’d LOVE to be strapped to Steve in a tandem jump!) I laughed out loud. Alex plays the entire episode with high energy, great intensity and brilliant comedic and emotional timing. Steve’s really feeling that they could die here. He’ can’t fake it any longer. He wants to make sure that Danny knows that he loves him, in case they both get blown to smithereens. Danny just wants to stay alive. Steve’s got that great SEAL adrenaline flowing through his veins. Danny JUST WANTS TO STAY ALIVE. But he trusts Steve at every turn to save their lives. And Steve comes through again. Thank GOD!
9. And the scene when the bomb blows up, they get knocked around, both of them can’t hear, and Steve’s first thought is, “Steve’s restaurant!!!” as he rolls around laughing like crazy on the ground, while Danny’s saying “It CAN’T be Steve’s Restaurant!!” while both of them are saying, “I can’t hear!” had me laughing like crazy. It’s one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen. Uh, oh, Steve’s in for a big disappointment. Danny probably wants to name the restaurant after his Italian grandmother. But you know, I think he’ll give in AGAIN and name the restaurant “Steve’s Restaurant!!” One bone to pick on this scene. In real life, both of them would have suffered ruptured ear drums, been hospitalized, and maybe never been able to hear again, but oh, heck, let’s not quibble about reality!
10. I love Steve and Danny, I love Alex and Scott, and I, for one, will deeply miss the ongoing saga of this hilarious mismatch of these two human beings when Danny/Scott finally says farewell to Hawaii Five-O. And I think Steve/Alex will miss Danny/Scott when Scott finally leaves the show.
These thoughts, as always, are just my feelings and opinions about a show and the characters/people I’ve grown to really love over the past seven years.
