Interview with Alex O’Loughlin about the TV series Hawaii Five-O.
Alex discusses how it compares to the original and the tone we can expect from the TV series.
The interview took place at the 2010 Australians in Films awards in Los Angeles, CA
Reporter: I was a big fan of the original Hawaii Five-O.
Alex: Okay.
Reporter: So how does this stack up to it?
Alex: Well, we’ve only shot the Pilot, so I don’t know. I’ve seen it and I think it is really good. It’s a … It’s a contemporary, aggressive contemporary version of the original. And I hope you like it.
I’ve got some big shoes to fill, you know.
Reporter: That’s it, it’s big shoes to fill. So how do you do that and make it your own and still pay, like, homage to the original?
Alex: Well, you’ve got to … I mean, you’ve just got to do what you do and … like any role. You know, be truthful. And you got to sort of always go for truth and do your work and find your character.
And …. and remember the story you’re telling. But I think …. I think we’re in good shape, you know. I think, … I think we are in good shape.
Reporter: Is it a comedy/drama mix like the original was?
Alex: It’s … it’s … yeah … yeah. There’s a lot of tongue-in-cheek stuff.
Scott Caan plays Danno and I play McGarrett and we’re ….. we have a ….. we’re good mates. So I think that comes across.

I know I haven’t seen that many episodes of the original H5-0, but I do not remember any comedy mixed in with the drama… actually, what I’ve seen is just the opposite, melodrama. That question just threw me!

ITA Janno. I was 14 when H5O went off the air and it was one of my parents favorite shows. I don’t remember much, but “Comedy” dose NOT come to mind, however unmovable helmet hair dose 😆 and the theme song of course. 😉
