[Clip from ‘The Back-Up Plan‘]
Monica: I really want to see that. That was a scene from the comedy The Back-Up Plan, starring, of course, J Lo, and joining us now is her co-star. Very hot co-star and love interest, in the movie, of course, Alex O’Loughlin. Alex, it’s awesome to meet you, that’s all I can say. You’re wonderful. And you’re Australian?
Alex: I am.
Monica: Is that right? Tell me about this movie and starring with JLo. I mean this must have been quite a … quite a wonderful experience for you.
Alex: Yeah, it was great. Jennifer is fantastic. She’s a … she’s a wonderful actor. And we had a great time working together. And the movie … the movie was, I mean, as soon as I read it, I really wanted to be a part of it, you know.
Monica: That’s right. For the rest, who haven’t seen the movie, what’s the premise of this movie? I mean I kind of like the idea of this back-up plan.
Alex: Yeah, it’s about a woman who hasn’t met the ‘one’, you know. And she wants to have a baby.
Monica: Sounds familiar.
Alex: Sounds familiar to a lot of people, I’m sure.
Monica: Like me.
Alex: [Laughs] And she hasn’t met the right guy and so she goes and … and makes a decision to get artificial insemination and as she walks out of the clinic she bumps into a guy, who … I play, called Stan. And she …. They …
Monica: Only in the movies, is what I say. Only in the movies. But now, since the movie started, did you have a back-up plan, let’s say in the acting thing?
Alex: No. I’ve been asked this question so much. I actually don’t have a back-up plan. I’m not qualified in anything else. I can probably do lots of things but I don’t know what I’ll do.
Monica: It does not look like you really need a back-up plan anymore. It looks like you are hugely successful, but …
Alex: Thank you.
Monica: What is JLo really like? I just wonder myself. What is she really like in person? Because I saw her in Times Square and I’ve seen her perform and she is just fantastic.
Alex: Yeah.
Monica: And a mommy.
Alex: She is a mommy actually. And we had … we had the twins on set a lot – Emmy and Max. And she’s …. She’s great. She’s very grounded. The thing I was most surprised about Jennifer is how centred she is for someone who … who … who lives, you know, in the limelight as much as she does. She’s super famous. She is very cool.
Monica: You know I have to ask you about your accent. I mean you have in the movie, you don’t have the accent, is that correct?
Alex: No, I play … I play and American in the movie.
Monica: Yeah, how do you do that? How do you go from Australian to…. I mean that must be very difficult for you.
Alex: Well I mean, it’s part of the job as well. You train and you learn how to change your sound to play different accents. My … my stepfather is North American, so you know, I’ve had that sound around me my whole life. And I also grew up with American television. And so I think for a lot of Australians the transition isn’t too difficult.
Monica: And is it true that you were up for roles like James Bond? I mean, is that true?
Alex: Ah…
Monica: You’d be great by the way.
Alex: Well thank you very much. Yeah, it’s funny was, I did … I did … I went to London and I screen-tested for that. And the funny thing is, it is the biggest audition of my life to date, and it is the one I didn’t get. And everyone talks about it. So it is sort of talking about the job interview that didn’t work.
Monica: And you know what, that’s a good thing, cause here you are and you’re in this great movie. So viewers in The Big Apple will be getting The Back-up Plan this week. Hopefully flocking to the film this weekend.
Alex: Fingers crossed.
Monica: I have a good feeling that you are going to be hugely successful. Really nice to have you here. Thanks for stopping by.
Alex: Thank lovely to be here.
Monica: You made my day.
