The Steve McGarrett Story – No # 121 (The Abandoned & Betrayed One?) #H50 – 6:03

We continue our story from here

First of all, thank you for all the well wishes yesterday. My head still feels a bit big and wobbly from the flu, but Paula told me that Gabriel will come and pull my teeth and torture me, if I don’t finish this.  I know by now you have read all the wonderful thoughts from everybody on the episode (especially the ones written by the professionals, which I saw on twitter, are apparently the only one(s) worth reading :pineapple: ) and I actually should not even bother with this …. but I have to get some stuff off my chest, and here we go. Hope I can at least amused and entertain a few of you a little bit.

Before I start with today’s story, I just want to mention something about last week’s episode that I saw, but in the end, completely forgot to mention when I wrote my story. And of course, it is very important 😀

602 (1)

I always complain about Steve changing shirts to t-shirts when he wears kevlar (and that we never see the undressing and dressing for it) As far as I can recall, last week was the first time ever, that Steve wore the kevlar over the normal shirt (as you can see above) and did not change to a t-shirt for it. But I am still waiting to see that shirt change every week.

:float:

But let’s move on to this week’s story …..

603 (84)

Is this the face of a man that not even a spy-mother could love and every other woman on the planet wants to run away from? 😕

I gather most of you would think that I am in heaven, because at long last something is happening with Steve’s story and at long last, I have something worthwhile to write about.

  https://i2.wp.com/i70.servimg.com/u/f70/17/28/77/77/d6799810.gif

And in a sense I probably am. But it is on days like these, that I long for the good old days when I watched TV shows whenever they get to my TV – mostly a year after it was first released in the USA. I long for the days when I had no clue of what was happening behind the scenes of making a show like this. The days before I ever thought of social media or even sharing any thoughts about such a show. The days before fandom ……

:nowhy:

Then I could watch and enjoy what I see, with just my own thoughts and without the knowledge of unpleasantness from other fans, surrounding actors and characters, as I experience with Hawaii Five-0 now. The days before I watched a show for one specific person. The days when I could just stop watching when the story no longer interested me……..

603 (21)

But here I am, having fun with Alex, an actor who I adore and who I think is worth the while. (And the company of fangirl friends from all over the world of course.)  And as you will see with the incoherent rambling that follows, I struggle to know how to feel about what I saw  this episode (or maybe it is just the meds I am taking, causing it Happy smiley 121 )

Okay (focus FOYeur) …. back to Steve’s story now.

First of all, we see Steve and Cath in the afterglow of their morning lovemaking. Even though the scene looked extremely hot, I have to ask myself,  is the spark of their playful intimacy, that was there in that first glimpse we ever had of them (in Epi 105) five years ago, gone now?

105-bw-2

She kisses him on the chin and he does not even bother to move and return a mouth to mouth kiss? Sad smiley 141

603 (133)

Is this intentional, after many years as lovers and after a year apart, or is it my imagination, or just the way the actors played it and the director wanted it? And what is up with the dialogue? “Go back to sleep, cause I’m going to make us some eggsss.” – It makes no sense to me?  https://i1.wp.com/www.myemoticons.com/emoticons/images/msn/moods/question.gif  How about Cath saying, “While you take a shower and get ready, I will whip us up a nice breakfast.” ?

I know languages and the tone they have, differ a lot, and I have no clue what Catherine was saying on the phone, but to me, it sounded like she was telling someone a bedtime story and trying to get them to sleep. It sounded very monotone and as if she was having a one-way conversation.

Steve later says that there was something in her voice that made him feel she was leaving, but for me, nothing sounded as if she was speaking to somebody that needed her. To me, it sounded more like her reciting a prayer.

603 (102)

And BTW Steve was not “listening in on her phone call” as he says to Danny – he was overhearing her speaking on the phone to somebody. In my understanding, ‘listening in’ would mean that he was on a second phone eavesdropping and hearing both sides of the conversation, and not just hearing her speak.

For me, conversations about important stuff like this, needs to make sense and this just does not sound correct at all? Are the writers just slapping words together?

I know I am one of the “lucky” fans who are not really bothered if Catherine stays of leaves, because I am here for Alex and his Steve and are not gunning for any specific relationship. Steve definitely needs some romantic fun and the company of a loving female, to make his life more interesting (in my opinion there is more than enough snarky testosterone around him already). Whatever the writers feel to create with the actors available, is okay with me.

I do however like good characters and development and portrayal of something with good motivation for a story. I felt that that was very well achieved with Steve and his Cath from the beginning – up until the end of the first quarter of Season 4.

For me, Cath being part of Steve’s life makes for some personal and background story and something for me to talk about. But in my heart, I felt that their story was done at the end of Season 4 and that we (and Steve) will take some time to get over it and move on ……. now the writers brought her back for 4 episodes, just for her to leave again? Was it much to do about nothing?

Back to this week’s story …..

It seems that I was right, and obviously, Steve and Cath never had ‘the talk’. Because if they had the talk, he would have known what was on her mind and that she was planning on leaving again (or would he?). Although I have not read any other reviews, I did catch some of the tweets and comments here these past 3 days.

Interesting that so many people say Cath lied to Steve and Danny. But all she said to Danny was that there is no place else that she would rather be and to Steve, she said she was going to Nepal. How do you know that those were lies? Most probably not, but maybe just half-truths. Imagine if Steve was going on a secret mission and he did not want anybody to worry about him – would he have told the full truth to everybody around him?

603 (22)

And Steve was not honest with her either. He did not tell her that he heard her telephone conversation. And he never told her how he really felt. AND he never asked her to marry him (as Danny told him to do).

For many women, a marriage proposal would be a different ball game than just to be strung along for years as a lover and a girlfriend. She might have felt more purpose in life and being needed if he actually asked her to marry him and maybe with the thought of starting a family together? Her biological clock is ticking after all. So who is at fault here? Cath for leaving to have a purpose in her life, or Steve for letting her go without being honest about how he feels and about what he really wants …… “Cause if you liked it, then you shoulda put a ring on itsmiley_wedding

603 (60)

Before I write my final thoughts about this week’s story, just some trivial questions that popped up in my head while watching the episode ……. and some answers from the (also sick) Koala Smartass.

Koala_Sick

  • As far as I can recall that British guy during last year’s Halloween episode, took all of Jerry’s “research” when he was kidnapped. Now he is hauling inboxes full of files? The same thing happened with the stuff in the Champbox – one minute it is stolen and gone and then suddenly it is there again?

Koala Smartass: He’s been busy compiling new stuff since then and storing it in Chin’s house. Don’t rain on his conspiracy parade.

603 (58)

  • Very cute that Nahele is helping Steve to acquire the ring …. but really why Nahele? To be honest, it felt a bit forced to me that he was involved with acquiring a ring. What makes him the go-to person for this gig?

Koala Smartass: To give him something to do – he is soooooo cute and they are desperate to make him part of the story. So shut your mouth!

603 (59)

  • So this guy has been dead for 6 weeks and his counterfeit printer is still busy printing? And there are still paper in it and not lots of bills lying on the floor?

Koala Smartass: Schuss! You do not know anything about the counterfeiting business and printers? (And Steve most probably pressed the start button again 🙂 )

603 (62)

  • So they replaced the hot-wired ignition on the boat with a new one, but they never cleaned the blood from the ignition casing?

Koala Smartass: But how else would Steve have a clue about the whole thing, if they did not leave the blood there? And the writers could not come up with a better plan 🙂

603 (63)

  • Did we see a little bit too much of Danny’s nephew for one episode (especially his first day on the job running solo) – it feels to me like smaller doses of him would be more tolerable?

Koala Smartass: Oh, but he’s so cute and soooooo funny and they are testing the waters for our reaction to his superior wit? (and he is a man)  😀

603 (50)

  • And what was up with the story of the surfer’s video? Should they maybe shorten the episode lengths, because it looks like they are really trying hard to make up time with stuff the viewers have no vested interest in? I really could care less about the grieving widow and the boy …..

Koala Smartass: Yup – I got nothing …..

603 (57)

  • I really wish I could travel as light as Cath ….. She is travelling to a country hit by a disaster and that might be in short supply of lots of stuff, but she barely takes any luggage with her.

Koala Smartass: Some girls are just lucky that way. 😕

603 (56)

  • And so a black SUV picks Cath up. Is that the ride she got? For me it looks very “secret service”, but Steve raises no eyebrow about that and about who it might be? Or did he just not react to it?

Koala Smartass: He was too pissed off, disappointed and sad to see clearly. Just think about it – although the Governor employed and betrayed him …. although his mother faked her death for 20 years and after returning abandoned him again and lied about her relationship with Wo Fat …. although Jenna Kaye lied to him and offered him up to Wo Fat in exchange for her fiance …. although aunt Deb lied to him about her fiance …… he must still feel that women can be trusted and that not all women are evil lying bitches or spies ……. Felix_the_Cat_animated1196434318

I did not think it was possible that  Alex could get more gorgeous, but this season proved me wrong. And the storytellers/wardrobe department is dressing him in more and more casual clothes. Shorts and swim trunks etc

– I am a happy fangirl, because he is definitely the sexiest man of TV at the moment.

:sexy:

But let’s get back to this week’s story of Steve…….

And Cath says she will be gone for a short while, but she really does not know how long ……. and Steve says I can’t wait for you if you leave now …… and Steve looks pissed off ….. and we see a montage of McRoll over the last 5 seasons …… and we say goodbye to good old times and this looks like the end of Steve and Cath …….. 😥

603 (12)

But lo and behold the backdoor is still open. Cath calls somebody ….. and it looks like Lt. Rollins is CIA and going on a secret mission…… and this looks like a start of something different  ……

In my opinion, the writers think they achieved multiple things –

1) The McRoll/Cath/ MichelleBorth-haters believe she is gone for good, because Steve said I will not wait (AND they played the montage). The story also gave them enough ammunition to say how awful and bad this character (and by implication Michelle) is.

603 (8)

2) The McRoll/Cath/MichelleBoth-lovers can still hope that she will be brought back one day, because maybe just maybe she is doing something great that Steve could forgive her for? Maybe she is even protecting him and his Ohana, who knows? (Maybe she is a vampire now? crazy )

603 (135)

So now Steve is either pissed off enough to start binge dating everything that wears a skirt (Oops – I mean skinny jeans and boots), or he will suffer from PTSD, or life will just go on as normal in the life of Steve McGarrett? (as usual) 😕

The last time we saw Steve moving from playfulness to utter defeat in one day, was with the Governor’s betrayal in the season finale of Season 1.

603 (10)

The question remains, did the writers very cruelly bring Cath back to end her story AGAIN and finally, or did they bring her back to set up an interesting storyline for Steve (and her) that they can use in the future (maybe before the end of this season, or maybe in future seasons when needed, or maybe already planned)?

How much of a story is really here? Did she come home innocently and was asked to do a job again and to go away, or was she there on a mission when she arrived already? Was she lying from the start as she arrived for the wedding, and was she just stringing Steve along with talk of staying as long as he wanted her to? I doubt if we will ever get an answer to that ……

603 (11)

And now the Michelle Both/Cath haters and those who feel they were wronged (got their ego’s bruised) by her in some obscure manner, will go on insulting Michelle and Cath and the McRoll lovers.  And the McRoll lovers will go on hoping and begging for her return   ……. and nothing changed since mid-season 3, when this ridiculous fandom war started.

 https://i0.wp.com/www.volusiacountygunclub.com/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_SmileyMachineGun.gif

And the producers smile, because the fans talk (fight) about their show …… and they remain relevant and talked about, because this is the cutthroat make-believe world of Television….. Confused smiley 83

  1. Living in the UK and with a hubby who doesn’t get fangirling I have to wait to see S6 when it comes on over here, but I obviously know everything already because of social media..as you said. I like your views very much and agree with those about Mcroll etc. I personally have always found the relationship a little odd but that’s just my opinion. I watch H50 to see Alex first and foremost, everything else isn’t terribly important to me. I do wish though that the writers would realise that most of the viewers are intelligent, thinking people with memory. Consistency is missed sometimes. But hey ho as long as I get to see Alex/Steve what do I care!! Love your blog.

I am so glad that “not professionals” like you, me and others are still writing and expressing our opinions 🙂 that tweet you mentioned annoyed me to no end too but it made me even more determined to continue. Thank you for expressing an interest and unique take about the story and Steve’s story in particular. Also for me the show is secondary to my passion for Alex, so i understand what you mean. As you know we have different opinions about cath and McRoll but that’s part of the fun isn’t it? It would be boring if we all saw things in the same way. So, lets just enjoy our man and our show and lets see where the storylines and characters go!

    • Yup – so much for the ‘Aloha spirit’ that Alex are so proud of ….
I think the difference is that I look at what I see about Steve and to not try to evaluate of delf to deep into any of the things he might be feeling that we don’t see.
I think we should not try to explore the emotions of these characters too much – I doubt if the writers or producers ever go that deep into what the characters feel. They have shown with the mock up “treatments” that they do not take it to seriously and I also think we are just setting ourselves up for disappointment if we do.
They are creating a procedural – with little bits of background stories. And not a drama with some cases as fillers (If that makes any sense)
I would love to see Alex one day handle a character that he can really sink his teeth into and with which he can have some great character development and show his chops as actor. Moonlight gave him a small bit of that – Hawaii Five-0 not so much

Thank you for the most insightful review I have read. You were spot on in everything you said and I share so many of your feelings. I am a McRoll fan because I love to see the softer, playful side of Steve with her. I think his having a relationship brings another dimension to his character. But I also believe at times the writers got lost in the telling of their story and Catherine’s character suffered for it, thereby maybe creating some of the hate. I think they could have done so much more with it but maybe that’s their end game. I felt they brought her back to have final closure of their relationship especially after viewing the montage but then after the phone call I believed there was hope of a happy ending. I thought that Alex and Michelle’s acting at the end was superb and flawless. I wish they would’ve given them more scenes with some bite in past episodes because they could’ve blown our minds. I too love Alex and he is the reason I watch but I want to see more dimension to his character other than the hero of the crime of the week. I don’t want H50 to be a pure procedural cop show. There is so much more to him and his relationship to his team to explore. I prefer seeing background stories and what they do with their off time, which apparently they have very little of. I guess that’s why I loved McRoll.

Well said, Adrienne…and brilliantly said, Foyeur! Apparently the flu becomes you babe. 😉 You really have hit perfectly upon the few highs and abundant lows of this ep and era of Show. Also kudos to Koala for her “Yup…I got nothing…” cos 😆 . Also truth… 😦 .

I also so agree, McG was perfect and he has indeed become even more gorgeous this season…he may be a real life Dorian Gray, ya know! Or really he is a vampire…or just God’s experiment with perfection…but I digress… 😆

I have always loved Cath because she gave McG greater depth and personality. He was softer around her, and happier. Even playful! ❤ Back when she was a regular, McG hosted parties and football for the Ohana all the time. He was into the social aspect, he was adorable. Once she left, there have been no gatherings at Casa McG…and he seems to mostly hang out by the food table at Grover or Danno parties. He's withdrawn… 😥

So I liked her, and still do. What I don't like, even a little bit, is to bring her back and, except for the details, replay the exact same plot as they did at the end of S4. Cheap and unimaginative way to stir the fandom pot. I have zero respect for the producers and writers with this episode and with their behavior on social media. Not sure that could ever be won back. But I, too, watch for Alex so I'm still in. In that regard, the Show is lucky. I think there's a ton of fangirls hanging onto Show by their fingernails just to enjoy some Alex.

My main issue, with anything Show has done with Cath or McRoll or any women characters, is the freakin misogyny Show writes with and stirs up within the fandom. Indeed, women characters are the worst…except for Show's princess, lonely, single-solitary, female: Kono. Women lie, they don't deliver on their promises, they don't even hang out together (I was so hoping for a Kono-Cath adventure and case, to see how they might pursue perps and justice like, or different to, the men. Coulda been such a cool ep to explore! ), and they all harbor some deep dark secret that can hurt…dun dun dunnnnnn…McG! The man who should be most covered in feminine lovin' cannot find 1 single woman who isn't out to pretend affection for him but who really is busily effin him over in some way shape or form…tho Danno has also had to suffer lying or self centered females, so the Show's misogyny, while not equally distributed, is at least consistent in all relationships. 🙄

Ugh! Just…ugh! Show makes me tired…

      • Grace…I didn’t like McRoll because she never seemed to fit as a “full time” cast member. She worked when she made special appearances. I felt the same way about Lori. She should have been brought in on certain cases (especially being a “spy” for the Governor). There have been some female characters that have worked: Aunt Deb, Mary and even Rachel. We don’t see Melissa/Amber or Sabrina but somehow we know they are there. I think that is what I liked about the show…you knew these people were there but they didn’t “intrude” into the story line. I think once they were “forced” into the story then they became difficult to watch.

I don’t think the “original” dynamic of the show needed another female cop…that was the way it was written and it worked. I think PL and the producers maybe felt they needed to add these “women” to draw more of a female fan base (as if the men don’t already draw us in). But in doing so they changed the dynamic of the show…hence the McRoll/McWeston, etc “haters” out there.

Steve and Catherine worked (season 1/2) because we knew she was there but it wasn’t necessary to make her full time. Just as it wasn’t necessary to bring Lori in full time it would’ve been interesting to have her pop up every now and then but no they had to “force” her into the show to bring more viewers. I think Season 1 (possibly 2) had the highest ratings the show ever had…because the plots worked.

We shall see what the rest of Season 5 holds but I think we will see a softer side of Steve because he has closure and he will move on. As to whether or not Catherine (or Doris) comes back we will have to wait and see,

    • Hi Adrienne
I think that unfortunately the Network mostly wants to stay clear of personal stories on procedural shows. They believe that the shows won’t sell well to networks that show them randomly afterwards, when bought on syndication. My personal opinion is that they should let go if that mindset – because it is stupid.
You can just have a look at when questions are asked and spoilers are given – it is all about the personal stuff. That is what the fans want.
I feel that their writting of Steve and Cath got lost some months after the fighting started. Season 3 was great – there was just the right amount of fun between Steve and Cath. But unfortunately in the middle of that started the social media fights – while the writing was still good.
Then came Season 4 and Grace Park needed time off and Scott also started to work only every second week and the dinamic had to change. The writers lost their plot of how to write the actors demands into it and did not know how to accomodate it all.
IMO they messed up potencially great stories….. but that is water under the bridge. And we will have to wait and see what happens now.

Once again I agree with you. I just feel there are so many crime procedural shows that I want H50 to be more than that. I get bored with the crime of the week chase the bad guy, catch the bad guy. I’m not saying I want to watch a soap opera either. I just like some personal stories and interactions mixed in so we can get to know the characters on a different level and see different dimensions to their character. It was so evident that Alex is an awesome actor with his scenes with Michelle at the end of 603, that I want more of that kind of story telling, happy or sad. He can’t sink his teeth into just figuring out the case of the week. He is so much more and has so much more to give and we have seen that at times, episode 100 for example. I just wish TPTB would decide what they want for McRoll. I am not fond of the emotional roller coaster ride they have taken me on. But of course, it creates a buzz about the show and that’s the business I guess. I for one am concerned about the ratings and am hoping they get their act together so we can have many more seasons of H50, of course with the personal stories thrown in…..lol

  6. I have been accused on being a McRoll hater and that necessarily isn’t true. Adrienne you said it best, “But I also believe at times the writers got lost in the telling of their story and Catherine’s character suffered for it, thereby maybe creating some of the hate.” Maybe not HATE (from me) as I was never one of those blasting her on her social media accounts, etc. I just felt the characters at times were forced. As to what her end game was we will have to wait and see.

Thanks FOYeur for your post while recovering. I look forward to what the rest of the season brings and hopes they do more of a story line for Steve as well.

I am curious if we will see more of the “female” doctor (sorry forgot her name) since HERO’S has Masi Oki back on and if we will see more of Eddie (Danny’s nephew). By the way, just curious, what happened to Charlie Fong?

Thanks and have a great week.

    • I have seen nothing of Amanda Setton (who plays dr Mindy Shaw) being on set – I think she will also just disappear like Chalie Fong.
Most of the times the actors get more permanent and better gigs and they are just not available to play these small parts in a show that is filmed so far away form LA.

Amazing recap Foyeur! I’m glad you are feeling better. While I wasn’t the biggest Cath fan in the world I used to like Steve with her. She made him happy. But when he came home to find her on the porch I was so proud of him for saying he wouldn’t wait. He deserves a woman that will stay for the long haul. I thought Alex and Michelle’s acting was wonderful and gave them both a chance to show their skills.

When I was watching the scene of Catherine on the phone in the morning and as she was leaving was that she may have been recruited by Doris to work undercover somewhere in Afghanistan or Iraq. Perhaps to use the local ties that she has established to get information on perhaps movement of Isis.

    Like

    • There must definitely be a connection I think. Doris and Joe both know about her skills. And Joe was directly involved in getting Steve rescued when she was left in Afganistan – so he would have known she was there.
Steve said to Danny in Season one that many Navy people with certain skills are used by the CIA for jobs. – Cah with her connections with the locals, must be a great asset for them to use.

you said everything i have wanted to say. So many people were mad about Cath lying to Danny, yet I immediately tweeted after their conversation that she never committed to stay.
I also wondered about Steve not proposing anyway. Of course since Cath wasn’t really wanted to leave, but was creating a cover story, a turned down proposal would have really screwed things up. Steve didn’t know that though. If he really believed Catherine and really wanted to commit to her, he should have pulled out all the stops and asked. After the length of their relationship there is no reason to expect someone to stay around with no commitment.
What hurts me for Steve the most is that he doesn’t know the truth. He really thinks he was rejected when fans are left with the hope that Cath could return. Alex was incredible at the end. Since i came into this ep expecting his heart to be broken, what i was anticipating how he would play it. We saw the wall cement into place during that hug; he basically stood there and let her hug him. His silence was golden (or the opposite of golden, since it was sad).
In discussing how long this ruse has been going on, you bring up something I have not seen mentioned anywhere else, but that I also wondered about. Was Catherine really in Afghanistan teaching for the past year, or did she get pulled into something while in Pakistan (where she thought the boy had been taken)?
The question on the phone about whether she can handle this and the focus on whether Steve took the cover cause me to think her mission is related to him somehow. Like many in the fandom, I am looking for Doris.
There is definitely potential to bring this back for a series finale.
The storyline timing was off as usual. Steve and Cath had been too busy to talk while Adam had time to recover. Similar to episode 5.02 when Reyes was getting out of lockup, but Steve’s bullet wound from 5.01 was completely healed.
There is probably something I am forgetting. I hope the writers do better than in the past at follow-up. Steve still has to have breakdowns over 2 kidnapping and torture events from Wo-Fat as well as from watching Danny commit murder and now from losing the love of his life. He is strong, but good grief, writers he is human.

oh, i know what i forgot. That stupid “I’ll go make some eggs” – I despised that line. I mean, I’ve never woken up in bed with anyone, but i am pretty sure I will never use that line. I was fine with their mood as I saw it as portraying Steve completely fulfilled. I didn’t think his lines to Cath made any sense either. Did he say “i’m surprised you did” after Cath said, “i’m sorry i woke you” I thought maybe he was meaning she had worn him out so he was surprised he could wake up. Anyway, that “eggs” thing will go down as one of the worst lines ever in this show. If i were the actress, I would have felt like an idiot saying that. Okay, I don’t have Koala Smartass in my ear, so i’ll just have to stop.

    • Steve said, “I’m glad you did”.
For me the whole problem was in the “go back to sleep, cause I’m gonna make us eggs.” How long does it take her to make eggs? It will take me 5 minutes – so she suggests that he go back to sleep for 5 minutes? That was the stupidity in it for me. There was sooooo many other lines they could have chosen – this was just stupid.
For me the whole scene just felt to set up and unnatural. If this was the afterglow of the sex you just had – things won’t look so organised with her lying under her own blanket and her leg on top of the covers (if that makes any sense at all)
It was just not natural to me. It was as if I am watching a set up scene and not living a scene of we just had sex with them. It felt more like a beautiful painting …..

Thanks FOYeur, for your review and insights. You covered everything !!
Steve and Catherine’s relationship was weird . He denied she was his girlfriend for a long time, she seemed more devastated by the death of her friend Billy (her former boyfriend), as though Steve didn’t matter. The mess that was made of their relationship, and how her character was developed was terrible, IMO. The amount of time they actually had together, just didn’t add up to a marriage proposal.
I did believe Catherine though, when she told Danny she’d like nothing better, when he asked if she was staying. She’s being sent on a mission, and has her orders. Why bring her back for a few episodes and have it end like this, unless its a setup for a future episode.
I’ve pretty much given up on PL, so for however long HF-0 lasts, I’ll just be thankful to see Alex in each episode. He’s the only reason to watch.

FOYeur, glad you feel better. Also glad Koala was able to clarify things 🙂 I don’t follow social media much and glad for that–seems there’s just too much pessimism out there. I also have no opinion on McCath staying or going. But I do think that she was working for CIA, was able to get back to Hawaii for the wedding (excuse to check in on Steve? who knows), but then she had to go back into the field. She loves Steve but needs her career more.

As for your trivia, I also wondered about the big black SUV ride to the airport–maybe it’s an Uber (drive your own car)–and why he had a teenage car thief procure his ring.

And I have something to ask, because you have very keen eyes–did Alex manscape his underarms? They just didn’t seem as “manly” as in the original be scene (epi 105).

    • LOL – I actually am not feeling better yet, but I was so scared that Gabriel would torture me and pull my teeth that I actually wrote the post 🙂
The amount of unprovoked utter rudeness still thrown at Michelle on social media is really sad.
I forced myself to look at some shirtless pictures from before 😛 and compared them with this epi and I see no sign of any new major manscaping on the underarms. The light is just different. AND he is GORGEOUS!!

  14. To be honest – and I am not even a McRoller – the Steve/Cath storyline is the only one that holds my interest. Adam is boring and Gabriel no Wo Fat and just a bully with no real oponent. I really want to know what forces Cath away, she really was suffering. Yeah, I am sure I will have to wait a loooong time till the writers address this again, but I am sure too that Alex will not forget what happened and give us a lot underlying emotions, like he did last season. His acting in the end was amazing!
But now to the real important things. I know that most of the fans didn’t like his baggy pants. But I loved them. Made his sexy swagger even more swagger-ish! Add this to the hand to hand and BAMF and I’m all in! 😀

  15. I love Catherine and Steve. But really the writers are the ones to blame. Due to the fact of doing that so harshly.
Left him on a mission and the job coming first. Just when he was about to propose. They drop the ball on that!

But she has really broken Steve’s heart. Will he forgive her is the question!
