Dr Andy – our Guitar Hero

It’s early on a Monday morning on the Hollywood sets of CBS’ new medical drama “Three Rivers,” and star Alex O’Loughlin, wearing only scrub pants and a striped bathrobe, is sprawled across a hotel bed.

Suddenly there’s a burst of rock music, sending O’Loughlin , who plays transplant surgeon Dr. Andy Yablonski, stumbling into the next room. There he discovers a patient playing the video game “Rock Band.” By the end of the scene, the two are jamming.

Between takes, O’Loughlin shows off his air-guitar skills with the game, then picks up a real acoustic guitar and makes some music.

“I was just mucking around,” he says. “It’s a beautiful guitar they’ve got in there. It’s a vintage Gibson. It’s divine. It’s worth a lot of money, so I’m hesitant to pick it up. But it’s its karma. It’s supposed to be played.”

PS. We really think Dr Andy could have done this without that big robe. Who sleeps with their robe in any case? 😦

  1. I think he has his own Gibson guitar by now? I am pretty sure I read it somewhere.
I so want TPTB to let Steve play his guitar. For God’s sake they have an actor who can do it so use this talent showrunners!!!!
And yeah – damn this robe. It is OOC btw, I can’t imagine someone like Andy to own such an ugly striped brownish thing.
I love the awakening gifs.. lol… his stupid face…

    • This is from the Pauly Shore interview:
Alex: New York is incredible. I lived there for like 6 months. I played my own Les Paul. My own Gibson guitar in the movie. I met Les Paul. Dude I fuckin met Les Paul, before he died.

  2. Ah, thanks FOYeur! You are the best! So he played one in August Rush but doesn’t own one.

LOL! I think the chest tats are why he wore the robe…lazy make up department? That was such a sweet and sad scene. DrAndy coming to terms with his marriage ending… *sniffle*

And another one of Alex’s many epic bromances, Andy and Kuol. Alex always seems to have that chemistry with the dudes on his sets.

    • 😀
Those are the only times I really don’t like the tattoos – it is when they rob us from some naked Alex. It does happen a lot of times – so what else can we do, but make fun of it 🙂
I just got an interview in drafts where he says that he finds ‘bro-mance love’ everywhere.

He’s just such a “guy” kinda guy! I looooved him with Josef in Moonlight, way more than I enjoyed Mick with either of the two chicks on the show! LOL!!! And he’s got a RL bromance going on with the Enoue bros… 🙂

  4. I loved that scene 🙂
And I agree, I so wish they would let Steve playing his guitar now that they have established he can play and that Danno has given him one as a prezzie

It’s kind of a pity the show is so focused on being a procedural. In an alternate universe, it’s a show about these cops, but not specifically about their job. In *that* show, we see all those things – Steve jamming, Danno playing baseball, Kono surfing, Chin…um, doing something he likes. (You know, I have no idea what that dude does for fun.) The focus is on their *lives*, not their work, there’s more humor and less skull-bashing, and there are no impediments to exploring the arcs of their intertwining stories.

Hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?

Heehee. This is one of my favorite scenes in this series. They’re so cute as friends. And Dr. Andy – *sigh*

I remember years ago a comedian talking about universal healthcare, and he quipped, “I can have any doctor I want? I pick Dr. Kevorkian.” I’d pick Dr. Yablonsky.

  6. I’d like to help *bang* Dr. Andy’s head into the headboard just li’l bit, not enough to give a concussion tho.

I’m so glad you did this post – I saw the Three Rivers episodes when they originally aired but haven’t seen much about it since then. I love the gif showing his “mean mugging” face he’s making while concentrating on playing the game guitar. 🙂 And yes, that robe is very annoying – obstructing our view!

Hey ladies!! Sorry I’ve been to busy to comment lately! Wonderful find Foyeur. I loved Alex as Dr. Andy. He was so handsome and you are so right. That robe is on our way! Lol 🙂

  9. Thank you for making gifs of this scene. I love it.

I’ll ask one more time: Paula, aka Gifs Godess, can you make a gallery with your awesome gifs? TY
