Alex O’Loughlin and his fangirls – Are we ‘Cougars’?

cougar-al-1

I have always wondered if the term ‘Cougars’ would also apply to fangirls? I know some people love the term and others can’t stand it. I guess it all depends on which side of the fence you are on, so to speak. 😀

ooh

Just for fun, some descriptions of ‘Cougars’ I found on Urban Dictionary: 😛

  • A cougar is an older, experienced woman who has maintained her sex appeal through the years. (She may or may not have children.) A cougar is typically in her 30s or 40s. Some women maintain their cougar name well into their 50s. Because the cougar is wise enough to appreciate the power of the pussy but is still attractive, she has the ability to mate with much younger men. She earns the name cougar because of her similarity to her animal counterpart, who is a capable, solitary stalk-and-ambush predator.

Do not confuse the cougar with the golddigger, who uses men for money or other monetary gifts. The cougar is also not to be confused with the sugar mamma, who usually pays a younger man’s bills in exchange for sex. A cougar does not pounce on her prey for money or status but purely for her own personal enjoyment.

  • Hot and sexy older woman, usually in her 40s or 50s, single or married, who is sick of her same-age counterparts which are usually hairless, have big guts, who only talk about their insurance premiums and have the TV remote control attached to their hands. Cougars are attractive, in their sexual prime, who know what they want and aren’t afraid to go after it.  True cougars are classy, beautiful creatures who have made their successes on their own, have real brains, usually with expensive cars/homes, and are real head turners. Cougars seek younger men, and don’t have to sneak up and attack…they know their younger mates are eager to get an experienced woman who won’t ask if they’ll call them the next day. Being a cougar is a positive thing.

Okay, so where am I going with all this?

In one of our Steve’s story post a few weeks back, we ran a poll and asked for the ages of our fangirl visitors here. Looking at the results, we thought it might be a good idea to share the result during this weeks posts, while we honour the felines. For those who are wondering why we have gone all “catty”, it is in anticipation of Mr Pickles (pity it is not a she 😦 ). He is the white cat that will be in this Friday night’s episode. 😛

Steve & Mr Pickles & the neighbour played by 88 yr old Oscar winner Cloris Leachman

(Just some trivia about Cloris Leachman who will play Ruth, the neighbour in this weeks episode. She already won her Oscar in 1972, 4 years before Alex was even born. She won her Golden Globe in 1976, the year he was born. And her latest big award was her 7th Emmy in 2006. Wow!

Unfortunately we do not have any detail about ‘Mr Pickles’ and his credentials. We do not even know if it is his real name or his character name. 😀 )

 Results of the poll:

Votes

Although the 203 people who voted are just a small % of our regular visitors here, the law of averages would suggest that it is a fair reflection of the whole. Unless the younger people just thought voting is silly, or maybe they are to shy to vote 😀 , it is fair to say that the numbers favour the girls (and maybe a few boys) who are older than 35.

My own feeling is that women who have had some experience in live, know when we see good quality. We do like the pretty stuff and we are not scared to voice our appreciation of it. But we also know that the value of something goes far deeper than that which is visible. The pretty inside, that includes the gentleness, kindness, respect for others and appreciation of ones own fortune in life, those are the things we value even more – and those Alex possess in abundance.

aah

But not only does the poll show that there are lots of wise older women out here, but I think it also shows us that there are enough women closer to Alex’s own age and even a few of them younger, with good taste.  🙂

GlitterCat

Maybe for all of us, Alex is that rare, gem, in a land full of false bling ……..

I don’t mind being called a cougar, they’re beautiful, sleek animals. Believe me the older you get the more you come to appreciate the finer things in a person, their humanity, sense of humor, kindness, generosity, loving heart, brains. Looks fade, inner beauty never does. It’s easy to love Alex – he has it all.

Not ashamed to say at almost 65 I’d love to get my hands on our gorgeous Alex. I’m sure I once read an interview where he seemed a bit disappointed that a lot of his fans were older women.

  4. I have to agree with your notes today. I’m 57 and feel much much younger, I stay in shape, wear the right amount of makeup, no fake eyelashes or boobs etc. and right now feel more sexy and confident than ever. I didn’t have that confidence in my 20’s or even my 30’s. We do have the experience in life, love, and sex, we have done the mating dance and yes we may have kept up with our bodies and look good but our hubbies have aged and not kept up. That and we are done with having kids, so the freedom of enjoyable sex without getting pregnant is there and younger men like that too knowing they won’t get ‘caught’. Not that I’m going to play around on my hubby, but if he passed away – I would be looking to a younger male. Think Alex embodies what we older women want. He makes us feel young again too…

Being a woman pushing Medicare age, and having seen many many handsome men in my lifetime, I can honestly say I have never seen any man as handsome as Alex. He takes my breath away. And he is not only beautiful, but he is the whole package. He’s everything every woman wants.

  6. Love the cougar art Paula! My RL may suck right now, but Alex always puts a smile on my face and a warmth “down under”
I am over 40 🙂 and have made it pretty evident in my past comments how much I admire the younger specimen that is our Alex. 😛 Even as a teenager I found the older, slightly grey, rugged, confident man (Harrison Ford) in his 30s more attractive than the teenage heartthrob of the month.
I’m not rich, or sexy and fit, but I will never be too old to enjoy some eye candy. I’m afraid if I were more attractive and confident, I may get myself in some trouble. 😉 For now, I will continue to enjoy your posts and plea to TPTB to let us feast on some Alex/Steve nekkidness soon! What? A girl can dream. And dreams are always better with Alex in them right?

And I’m like Lurxgirl, neither rich nor attractive but happy to be here and enjoying the childishness of fangirlie-dom!
And yes, we need some shirtless and hot-bothered Alex S.O.O.N.!!

Haha. You girls have out done yourselves! I guess I fall in to the young but good taste category because I’m only 18. But I would love to gain some experience in several areas from our Alex! Wow it’s hot in here. Thanks ladies! 🙂
