Countdown to #H50 Season 5 Blessing – #3 – New Beginnings

Two days (less than 48 hours) to go to the start of filming Hawaii Five-0 Season 5. For our 3rd instalment to the countdown, we look back at the Blessing ceremony for Season 3. (My favourite, maybe because it was the first time I watched it live on the internet)

There were a number of cast and crew and spectators around, because this time it was held in the park in the open air – with some rain coming down to bless the as well 🙂

Cast members who attended, include Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim, Taylor Wily, Michelle Borth, Dennis Chun, Al Harrington newcomer Christine Lahti . Executive producer Peter Lenkov and Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle were also there.

 Season 3 Blessing:

Please take the time to watch this video clip of an interview Tannya had with Dennis Chun and also with Kahu Blaine Kamalani Kia  (who did the blessing), where he not only explains about the blessing, but also tell a bit more of his work on the show, helping with the cultural and language authenticity in the show. Not an easy task it seems.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – After much anticipation following last season’s cliff-hanger, the cast and crew of Hawaii Five-0 is preparing for its third season. A traditional Hawaiian blessing was held at a top-secret location early Monday morning.

Cast members including Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim, Taylor Wily, newcomer Christine Lahti, Michelle Borth, Dennis Chun and Al Harrington were in attendance. Executive producer Peter Lenkov and Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle were also on hand.

Right after the blessing, it was back to work. The stars rushed into their trailers to get made up to shoot their first scenes. “I’m happy to be back,” said Alex O’Loughlin who plays Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett.

Fans were left with a bombshell to end season two. McGarrett’s mom is alive. “Now, of course, Mom and there’s a lot of new developments,” said O’Loughlin with a smile.

Christine Lahti joins the cast as Doris McGarrett. “She’s been gone for 20 years, there’s a lot of mystery behind her so I really don’t want to say anything. It’s going to be good. McGarrett is going to be on a journey like the audience,” said Executive Producer Peter Lenkov.

“Women are always creating havoc in my life and that’s part of why I love them so much,” said O’Loughlin.

McGarrett’s love interest, Michelle Borth, returns in a bigger role. “One thing we haven’t had a lot with McGarrett is love stuff. It’s been all hectic, people dying, getting saved,” said O’Loughlin.

You may have noticed the entire cast wasn’t at the blessing. Scott Caan is in Los Angeles working on a play and Grace Park just flew back into town this morning. She made it a point to drop by the set later in the day to wish the cast and crew a great start for filming. Daniel Dae Kim just wrapped up a media tour in Asia and says he’s surprised by the following the show has overseas. He says fans will be surprised by all the twists and turns ahead for Season 3.

“That’s the beauty of television, what goes up must come down. What is good, must go bad,” said Daniel Dae Kim.

Producers say they’re trying to pull together another Waikiki premiere before the show premieres in September — so stay tuned. We’ll be the first to let you know if it’s a go.

Due to some time limitation, we did not yet have the transcript for the interview of Tannya with Alex after the Blessing ceremony, but we made one at a later stage here:

#AlexOLoughlin’s Guide to Moonlight, Episode 7

 Moonlight Episode 7

– The Ringer –

Written by: Josh Pate

Directed by: Chris Fisher

(9 Nov 2007)

Mick is convinced that his vampire wife Coraline is back from the dead, but all indications are that she is someone completely different and that the woman (identifying herself as Morgan) is not a vampire. He seems to be bordering on madness in his efforts to prove his theory to Beth.

“This is where it starts to get interesting,” notes O’Loughlin. “Chris Fisher directed this episode and he created the time for me that I otherwise wouldn’t have had with other directors. He prioritizes around getting the best out of the actors, not about his shots, the lighting or other things. I really like this one from beginning to end. I like the intensity. It’s the introduction of the next step of Moonlight, of the next big dramatic storyline shift. And we start to see the cracks in Mick St. John’s veneer. We start to see where his pain lies. Coraline’s the big love of his life. It’s different to Beth. Coraline’s the tempest, the tumultuous relationship. That’s the pain and the love all mashed into one. It hasn’t left him. He’s carried it for 60 years and it runs pretty deeply.”
