Alex O’Loughlin’s Guide to Moonlight – Episode 4

Moonlight Episode 4

– Fever –

Written by: Jill Blotevogel

(19 Oct 2007)

Protecting a witness for Beth’s prosecutor boyfriend ultimately leads to Beth and the witness being trapped in am abandoned motel, where prolonged exposure to sunlight is killing Mick. Beth is called and upon arriving realises that she has to let Mick feed on her if he’s to survive.

“There was a lot of location stuff in that episode,” O’Loughlin points out. “We all went out to the desert and shot out there for a few days. No new show has enough money, let alone an hour drama that has special effects, special make-up, is stunt heavy, shoots at night and is based in genre. This show was really shooting against all odds. To make it good can be difficult. In this episode, there are a couple of things that I wish we could have changed, but nothing in performance or storyline, just in effects and things like that. I really like the storyline and the acting. I thought the guest stars were fantastic, and overall I felt like I was watching a feature film. It was also an important episode for Josh and Mick. They were starting to get to know each other a bit more, and it was important to build that trust between them – despite the fact that feelings were developing between Mick and Beth.

“What happens at the end of that episode,” he adds, “was pretty radical. When I read it for the first time, I was, like, ‘Oh, yeah!’ That was something to write home about, and I love the way it was shot. And the fact that Beth lets him feed on her – she reaches this amazing place of comprehension. She understands his needs so clearly, and it’s evident that there’s a connection between these two.”

I love this posts, makes me rewatch ML and see some new stuff through the eyes of aol 😉
ML is so full of passion, i’m always anew amazed by mick and his dedication to suffer!

Alex was at his best as Mick in this one. And he was also at his most handsome. I loved it. Thanks.

That reveal when he comes crashing through the wall! Standing there like a god come down from Olympus, all wet and breathing hard and luscious as hell. BE STILL, MY NAUGHTY BITS.

  4. These pics are wonderful! Not sure why you don’t get the comments you would expect? Maybe it’s because Mick takes our breath away? *sigh*
I can’t thank you two enough for continuing to entertain us throughout the hiatus.
Mick does something to me that even Steve cannot match, even in those button fly tan cargos. 😛 While Steve is a “walking wet dream” most of the time, Mick fuels fantasies in me that are so full of lust for blood and sEx, I can’t believe I am the one imagining them. They take me by surprise sometimes as to how much they consume me. I guess you could call it a “Fever.” 🙂
Alex knew the impact of the feeding scene would be huge for Beth and Mick’s relationship. I don’t believe he had a true grasp on what it did to the fangirls. In his wildest dreams, I bet he was too humble to even realize the magnitude of his sex appeal.

‘Tis one of his best attributes, in my opinion. Damn, it’s so cute when they don’t know they’re sexy, isn’t it?

      • Thanks for the reply Serai. Although it has been nearly a year since this comment, I feel the same about Mick/Alex as I did then. Thank you again because it made me revisit these fantastic posts that FOYeur and Paula produce day after day, year after year. They are so dedicated to providing us with accurate, thorough and eye pleasing material about our adorable Alex. ❤

Heehee. To be honest, I hadn’t given him more than a passing (though wistful) thought in a few years now (cop procedurals being SO not my thing). Then about a month ago, I decided to go back and rewatch Moonlight. And wouldn’t you know it? KA-RRAAAAANG!! The Thunderbolt hit, and now I’m discombobulated. Man, and I thought I was too old for this nonsense YET AGAIN. *sigh* The Goddess had other plans for me. I guess Mick was right – it doesn’t matter what we want, we’re going to get what the gods think we deserve whether we like it or not.

Ah, poor Alex, mentioning again the show’s budget–apologizing for the “ice cubes”? I think they did a helluva job with the show.

Thank you so much for this recap. I’m so glad Alex assessed this episode the same way the fans did. For anyone who was undecided about Moonlight, this was the one that got people hooked, along with B.C. I never get tired of this episode. Mick, at his most heartbreakingly vulnerable, beautiful and sexy !!

  7. This one was a great episode, I think Beth really got what Mick was about in this one 🙂

I just discovered Mick and drool every time I see him. Although I love Steve, Alex was at his most handsome when he played Mick. He oozes sex out of every pore! I wonder how Beth/Sophia could restrain herself at not pouncing on him…..

  9. Hi Romi
In a sense I envy you the new discovery of Moonlight.
And I agree with this 100%>>>> ‘He oozes sex out of every pore!’

This what Sophia had to say in the TV Guide Sexiest Issue in May 2008: 😀
” I’m immune to Alex’s hotness. I see more of him than of any boyfriend I’ve ever had. I’m very privileged because of that, but since I see him so much, I’ve overdosed on his hotness. It’s just the norm. But other people become weak in the knees around him. They start blushing. They drool. He has that Johnny Depp thing, a special sparkle that’s just magic. How do you define it? The young girls love him, the older ladies love him, and the gay guys love him. He’s really good at expressive movement and loves musical theater. He’s also up there with the greatest comedians I’ve ever known. I go home with stomach pains from laughing so hard. It’s constant. He’s kind of crude. English and Australians have a great connection when it comes to humor, and we can be outrageous. You couldn’t put some of it in print. Americans don’t know what to do with us, but I like that.”

Looks like she had her ‘ways’ of protecting herself against his hotness. 🙂

  10. Romi

How can anyone overdose on this kind of hotness? Sophia is a cutie and I love her, but for the life of me; I can’t understand why you would see him as ‘the norm’. I could never have a ‘normal’ boyfriend after working with HIM! They would become the norm and I would get hooked on HIM like a junkie on heroin!
Got 5 more epi’s to go and I’m gonna come out of the closet here; I’M HEAD OVER HEALS IN LOVE WITH MICK ST. JOHN!
