#AlexOLoughlin ’s Guide to Moonlight, Episode 1

We came across this curious little thing online, a short while ago.

Alex O’Loughlin had spoken with SciFi TV Zone, and given them a commentary on each Moonlight episode.

It was new to us and immediately saw the opportunity to pick our favorite Mick pics (mostly faces) with each episode guide. And we suspect there are many like us, that have not come across his thoughts. We are posting an episode daily.

On a side note, we made our own caps every other episode, Paula´s are the uneven numbered and FOYeur´s the even numbered.

PS. For some reason this first episode only has half the amount of pics the other posts will have. No idea what happened there 😉

Introduction – Alex on Moonlight

“For his part, O’Loughlin remains proud of what the show accomplished and what it represents.

“I got to be a part of a story I really liked,” he says. “And I’ve always wanted to play a vampire since I was a kid, and that’s not something that will necessarily happen again in my life.

It was just a great fit and a great experience. It was also a stressful experience. We were under budget, we were always fighting for everything we needed. We weren’t the golden child at all, we were the one that had to constantly present reasons not to be shut down.

“It was wonderful to fight for something and keep it alive for longer than it otherwise would have been,” he continues.

“It’s great to be a part of a success, even if it was for only a season. The thing is, we were able to tell some really important stories. It wasn’t just about these monstrous creatures and sexual romps.

What we went for constantly is the big truth, for the human truth, the human story and that’s the reason we make films in the first place. We didn’t always hit it, but I feel that from time to time we did and that’s why we held on to the audience, because they sensed that truth.” (SciFi TV Zone, Edward Gross)

Moonlight Episode 1

– No Such Thing As Vampires –

Written by: Ron Koslow & Trevor Munson

Directed by: Rod Holcomb

(28 Sept 2007)

Private eye Mick St. John and Internet reporter Beth Turner come together while investigating a murder that is the handiwork of a professor using vampire lore to seduce college students.

The episode was actually shot twice, its original pilot differing drastically from the final episode, particularly in the fact that with the exception of Alex O’Loughlin, the entire cast was changed.

Alex:

“The rhythm and tone changed pretty dramatically,” says O’Loughlin.

“You put new actors in and new stuff is going to happen. They also changed the age of the characters. For instance, Josef [Mick’s best friend, also a vampire] changed from 65 to 25, which is a dramatic shift.

Plotwise, there were a bunch of ideas in the unaired pilot that we stretched across a couple of episodes.

“I think the final pilot episode felt compartmentalized,” he adds, “because we had to set up our mythology and our rules for the show.

It couldn’t be 44 minutes of exposition and rule setting, so there had to be a story in there as well. But we had to set up this new myth of vampires, this new world of vampires and we had to introduce the primary characters.

So we had a fair bit of work to cram into the first episode, which I think we did successfully.”

    • Internet is full of surprizes! There are some really interesting comments from Alex on some of the episodes. I only wished he would have spoken even more. I also enjoy the little critique he had on some episodes, but more of those coming up in the next days.

  6. You absolutely must look at #6 close up! CAUTION: MAY CAUSE INVOLUNTARY FINGER TWITCHING AND KNEES TO SUDDENLY WEAKEN. The light shining on those curls and his long sensual nose…S&T!
#9 is bringing out my inner vampire. His thick neck, tantalizing my teeth and tongue! I think I could spend eternity ravishing his delicious neck! SLURP!
So 6&9 are my favs. Hmmm. Why is this not a surprise? 😛

Great post. I like the pictures. I have seen clips of Moonlight on youtube. I have thought about buying the season on amazon because I am a huge Alex fan. But I’m not really in to vampires. Is it still worth watching/buying? Thanks for any help.

    • I personally hesitated to watch ML, because I don’t like blood and gore. I am so glad I got over it and watched. The blood and gore is minimal and Alex as Mick is something I’d hate any fan of Alex’s to miss out on. He is spectacular and so incredibly sexy as Mick St. John! I watched all 16 episodes over a long weekend. I am on my second DVD set because I loan it to my friends so much, I couldn’t be without it in case I get a craving. Once you get a taste of Mick, you will be hooked. 😛

    • Of all the fans that wondered if Moonlight is worth watching, I think over 95% fell in love with Mick. There really isn´t that much traditional vamping going on. As you can see from the pics posted, Alex did look like a normal human for the most part. We don´t see Mick in the vampire contact lenses and fangs that much. Mick is a wonderful character. I think the majority of us Alex fans, are not fans of vampire genre, please, have a try at Mick. Doubt you will be disappointed 🙂
Ps I think the dvd box set of Moonlight is most likely on reduced price, anyway. You don´t need to spend a fortune on Mick…it will be worth a lot more than the money you spent.

I have 3 copies of Moonlight….just because. No Alex fan could possibly live without experiencing Mick St.John. I like Steve McG, but he could never replace Mick in my heart.
