Steve, dressed to impress

Comparisons with the original Hawaii Five-o and the Hawaii Five-0 we all love, have never been important to me. The present era of Television is so far removed from what we had in the 70’s. Not only did technology explode since then, but acting skills and fashion changed quite a bit 😀 . I kind of feel sorry for Jack Lord and his team, who had to wear suits all the time – in Hawaii! I wonder how many different suits and ties Jack were dressed in during the 12 years and 281 episodes that were made?

Lucky for Alex, present day Steve only have to wear a suit on special occasions. But boy, he does clean up nicely once we get to see him in a suit. Over the 4 seasons there seems to be an increase in the number of occasions created by the writers for him to wear a suit. Let us investigate……..

Season 1

It looks like in Season 1, ‘The Suit’ was used for “undercover” work. In episode 103 to infiltrate an illegal casino and in episode 108 to attend the art exhibition of a drug dealer.

Season 2

In episode 202 ‘The Suit’ was used to impress the new School Principal Governor and in the end it worked more on the office spy Home Affairs girl. In episode 212 ‘The Suit’ was used for the happy occasion of Chin’s wedding – getting lei’d with it as well 😛 . In episode 216, we got treated with ‘The Tux’ to support the boss and his charity

Season 3

In episode 309, ‘The Suit’ is used for the occasion of being glorified security guards for super models 😀 . In episode 311 ‘The Tux’ was dusted off again to impress the girlfriend – unfortunately Alex Steve gained a few pounds since the Governor’s charity event 😳 . In episode 318 ‘The Suit’ made it to a funeral.

Season 4

In episode 403 ‘The Suit’ was used to support the girlfriend with her change of career paths. In episode 409 the thanks giving men of Hawaii dressed in  ‘The Suits’ to welcome the President. Just the best ‘Suit’ was used to impress intimidate the Internal Affairs men in episode 413. And in episode 414 ‘The Suit’ for the first time made it to our screens for no real prominent reason. Are we seeing a new era of Steve wearing more suits, just for the sake of wearing a suit?

As far as we have seen in the past, the fangirls love ‘The Suit’ and would like to see Steve on display in it more often. (Most of us, we think, have fantasies of ripping it off though 😛 ) . But what do you  prefer? ‘The Suit’ with of without a tie? Should the jacket come off more often (preferably with some shots from behind with it ) ? Or should we have Steve follow in the Steve of Jack Lord’s era and have him wear ‘The Suit’ all the time? Or like Danno, let him wear the dress pants with a shirt to work?

Let´s have a minipoll on which type of suited look you think is most attractive 🙂

Excellent study Paula, without any doubt I vote 100% for our detective McSweety.
I don’t understand the last option (tux? bowtie?) may be commando suit?
Dress to kill? Anyway is gonna kill me whatever he is dressed.
    I vote for the 3

  2. I don’t like bow ties at all and I’m not a big fan of ties in general so voting was really easy for me this time 🙂

  3. Looks like Jack Lord was not afraid of the pastel color pallet for shirts or suits! Love it! And in season 3 I think the tux did not fit right because he had some baby fat 😉 on him! But he shed that and I love him in anything at all! Thanks for the look back and the Steve Look!

Oh oh! I think I actually remember Jack Lord sporting that green suit – hmm, wonder if it was a St. Patrick’s day episode :P! There’s no comparison between the 2 men – Alex has it over Jack hands down. To quote my deceased aunt (who said this about George Clooney sooo many years ago) – he can park his shoes under my bed any time :-)!!

  5. Alex would look good in coveralls without a shirt. Of course fangirls would prefer nothing at all but I like to leave a little to the imagination. Whether he is Alex or Steve I think our guy dresses for the occasion, and he does it very well. I would so forgive him for the cracker crumbs.

Whoa, Paula, you nailed it with the Steve suits. What a freakin’ fabulous Friday you’ve created!

I usually go gaga over guys in suits with ties, but Alex looks so MANLY without the tie, that’s how I voted. Dear CBS, I would also like to vote for more “Steve in suit for no reason”. YUMMY!

Thanks Paula for all the delicious pix of Alex…you certainly know how to brighten the day 🙂
For me the poll was a no brainer. I opted for “Other”. I prefer him in his BIRTHDAY SUIT!! 😛 😛 😛 (CBS are you listening?)

  10. mmmmmmm suits *drool* definitely leave off the bowtie its not a good look on him. I love the tie depending on the type of suit but in the last ep in Season 4 the no tie thing really works *swoon* 😉

He wears a tattoo suit everyday lol! The 007 suits leaves me shaken and stirred in all the right places too lol!

  12. I am an old fashioned kind of girl. For me the suit without a tie looks half dressed and untidy. (I see Alex himself has brought back the tie for the last few occasions, when he appeared with a suit on the carpet and for interviews – I love it)
If he does not wear a tie, he should also lose the jacket. I would rather see him in a suit with a tie or just the shirt without a tie, with dress pants.
The tux is for special occasions and I think they have used it nicely.

Huh, I was far away from the majority, I voted for the 007 look, season 1 is just great, the black/white – heaven, just so cool!
Well, s2 had it’s moments too, unbuttoning that fly at the gov dinner with his freaking hot hands did me in too!
Well, s3 – love the mature McG and the suit!
But still, my love is with season 1!

As much as I looooove Steve in a black suit/tux with a white shirt, I think my favourites are 413 and 414! Although Alex could wear a bin bag and still look gorgeous!

  16. As much i like him in a black suit, i love him in grey and most of all in a blue suit. Season 4 is the best so far. I don’t like bow ties but i’m fan of ties. In my fantasy the tie takes a special role – is the best to blindfolding and can replace the handcuffs.
