In the movie FEED we get the only real view of this beautiful behind. But that was made a long time ago. Now we know that there are a lot more ink either on or surrounding this bum and hips! 😀

Some people believe this is a separate tattoo, but I believe it to be just an extension of the rest of the back/butt tattoo.

I am hoping for a lot of entries for the butt painting 😉 Who can resist doodleing on those round Feed buns? Then again I can understand some of you would rather leave them as a clean canvas…but DON`T! I think maybe having my bite mark tattooed on him with a kiss added 😀

His back tattoo is obviously a cover up job, and it’s definitely a Polynesian design, or at least an adaptation of one. I can’t see it properly but it looks like the design might also include a snake or snakes in it, that along with the water design element I think might be a tribute to his new home of Hawaii, and his love of the ocean/water. The other lines and arrows and twists that form part of the design, especially around the border, may also have significant meaning, but I’d have to look up some stuff on traditional Polynesian Tribal design to know what they are. In traditional Polynesian tattooing you don’t actually choose the design yourself, you tell the tattooist about yourself as a person, & your life, and they choose the design for you. Whether this is true in Alex’s case or not would depend on whether or not he had this tattoo done in the traditional style (the ink is hammered into the skin by hand using a needle hand tool and stick – the tapping sound it makes became known as ‘tatau’, believed to be the origin of the word ‘tattoo’), or if he went to a local tattoo artist and chose something himself that was Polynesian influenced in design.

I once was told in Sydney at Sleevemasters, that traditional polynesian tattoos where never coloured. But that was back in the 1980s…

Traditional, yes, but modern day designs, with the influence of western culture, may have colour in them. Strictly speaking that does mean they are not ‘traditional’ Polynesian tattoos, but rather a Polynesian inspired design or ‘traditional inspired’ Polynesian tattoos. So yes, traditional, in the truest/strictest sense of the word, Polynesian tattoos are always done with black ink, no colour.

And yeah, sorry I should have said it’s doubtful he would have gone to a traditional Polynesian tattooist, and had the tatt done in the traditional hand tapped (not sure of the correct terminology) style, simply because the tatt does contain colour.
